DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The gods in your game.

Actually, the sun is a giant thermonuclear catsplosion that takes roughly 15 billion years to run its course. That's why it turns into a white dwarf when it dies. There are no supernovas.

In dwarf fortress, all the stars are main sequence stars, formed from the apocalypse of worldgen. in the end times, the cat population becomes so high, it creates a nuclear reaction which destroys all life in the world and ignites the planet into the next sun. This in turn causes another world to be created by Armok. This cycle of events ensures that technology will never evolve too far for the 10,000 years of the planet's lifecycle, and that there will be a controllable genocide to prevent overpopulation. Because intelligence never evolves or disintegrates, dwarves have knowledge of this event, which is why they want to be constantly drunk and have a sun phobia; it only reminds them of their world's inevitable fate. And Snowball.

LISTEN UP, YOU BASTARDS!

Got my first siege.

Those are all the units. Smallest fucking siege I've ever had. Their leader, the lasher, is mounted on a Giant Olm.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been trying to work on artwork and writing stuff lately. Been slacking on that front. Fortunately, DF is one of those games that allows you to multitask while dwarves busy themselves with work, like moving all the stone into a quantum stockpile inside the fortress. Wood is quickly becoming a trivial concern, what with the underground now open for business. I haven't explored that much into it, though. I didn't want to do any explorations until I leveled the mountain.

Having a population problem right now. More and more dwarves are popping up. However, with such a large population, I could afford to conscript more miners. As soon as I can find some damn cassiterite, I can start making some damn bronze armor.

Oh right. posted my progress. Have fun with the siege.

Actually, that's at a pretty normal level.

Stop trying to make light of a terrible corrupt real life war that is respnsible for the deaths of a large amount of innocents.

By simply talking about it on the DF forums, you're pretty much inviting people to take it lightly or compare it to dwarves. The DF Forums are almost like 4chan. Only one thing they haven't got:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Not even 24 hours later, and there are already conspiracies about some secret Illuminati-esque plan, that Osama was actually dead since 2001, but the Obama Administration kept his body in secret to wait for the 2012 campaign to put him on the winning track, unaware that Darth Cheney and Bush were in charge from 2001-2009.

Mine is pretty new. A 10-dwarf squad of legendary miners. They single-handedly fended off 3 consecutive ambushes with only their picks and the clothes on their backs. There have so far been no deaths or major injuries.

I still say find a way to trap them, and see if you can't turn them into war animals. Very little is scarier than a War Badger.

I was referring to your GFX temperature in the screenshot :s

That's in Fahrenheit.

Posted the Embark save. I'll upload an update later.

Near the end of my 4th year at the fortress, which has now become a barony. My baron electorate likes Copper and Green Glass, which there is no shortage of in this place.

The ambushes are getting more frequent, so all available hands are now working on making Basalt blocks to build the main tower to keep all my stuff in. The probability for a powerful tantrum spiral is all set, since all the dwarves meet in a very confined space when they're idle. Most dwarves are Talented in their social skills (save for the Cook, who is Professional), and you should see what this has done to their Soul attributes.

I'm also digging deeper underground to find some water for when my dwarves get injured. Finding a lot of metals in the process.

I'm curious. Can animals eat underground fungus?

Birdfall sounds like some kind of Biblical plague.

My stepdad saw me playing Dwarf Fortress, and he thought I was defragging my computer.

Like having their faces melt off. Cordon off the area for three months until you can determine the possible syndrome, if any.

It is kinda interesting how the creature would just turn friendly like that. Why is that?

In the older builds of Dwarf Fortress (before the 2010 release), I was doing this project to flatten out a glacial volcano. I did this by cutting through a mountain, then collapsing the layer by turning off the support holding it up (think that episode in Spongebob when Doodlebob erases one Z-layer of Spongebob's house). It worked until it crashed the program on the 6th attempt. I like how channeling works in the new build. It makes leveling terrain much more convenient.
