DF General Discussion / Attack of the SKELETAL DRAGON!
« on: January 05, 2010, 07:44:18 am »
Well, it happened again, somehow. A megabeast attacked my fortress, much like the attack of the Hydra at my old Fortress Mooncrystals. Just to make sure nothing weird was going on, I checked the wounds on the Dragon to see if they lost anything during worldgen. Turns out they're body is completely empty.

Their external body parts are intact, but they are missing everything else. Eyes, throat, brain, guts, heart, lungs, and vital organs. What the hell?! How did it manage to even get to my fortress in the first place!?

EDIT: ahem, lemme rephrase my concern. *Takes a deep breath*

SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!

That's no Ordinary dragon! That's a SKELETAL DRAGON!!!!

When I embarked, I noticed a Haunted biome nearby, but I didn't think it would actually do this. Who would have thought?! Dammit, I'm so not prepared to handle this yet! I've been focusing on the megastructure on the lake! That's it, I'm walling in my entrance.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Quest: Above-water Mega-Fortress
« on: January 03, 2010, 05:12:32 am »
With the botched Fortress I had last time, I decided to embark on an 8x16 sized region, most of the region covered by a freshwater lake in the center. This time around, I'm going to build the fortress on the water. To make this even more challenging, I'm making the floors out of only Marble and the walls out of only Orthoclase. And everything is made from blocks, not rough stone. Bonus points will come if I can, when the lake freezes each winter, build lower floors going into the lake, and megabonus points if I can reach the bottom of the lake. This is a difficult project, not to mention huge, which means that most of my labor force is composed of Masons. I'll take images in Visual Fortress tomorrow of how everything looks so far.

DF Bug Reports / [40d16] Running into slaughter
« on: January 02, 2010, 02:38:00 pm »
I got ambushed during one fortress, but the ambushers went and attacked the resident Giant living in one of the caves. The Giant killed them all, but for some reason, my dwarves suddenly ran over to go claim the items the invaders dropped, all of them running right into the Giant's cave and getting slaughtered one by one. All of the items were forbidden (I even forbid the corpses, just to be sure), but the dwarves still ran in and got themselves slaughtered by the Giant. and when I say all the dwarves, I mean ALL of them. I hope that Giant chokes on their miasma.

DF General Discussion / "The champion need not spar"
« on: December 24, 2009, 05:59:55 am »
I seem to have a bit of a problem here regarding the military dorfs... again. This time, the problem is of them not sparring or training.... at all. If they're not patrolling killing wolves and carp or the occasional goblin ambush, they're in the barracks, just sitting around doing nothing. I have several archery ranges, more than enough for all 9 dorfs, and I have enough weapons for each hand of every dorf, but I don't know why they're no longer sparring. And just to simplify things, they're all in the same squadron, and they're all off duty right now.

DF Suggestions / Undertaker's Logbook
« on: December 23, 2009, 05:01:19 pm »
I have the constant issue of not being able to locate dwarves that have died for x reason in my fortress. Could there be a possible option in the unit list to see where the thing died. Another possibility is a visualization of the landscape that shows all the beings that died in the area, and you can select each unit and see what they died from.

DF Suggestions / Rise of the Megabeasts
« on: December 19, 2009, 01:01:50 am »
I was contemplating this for a while now, what the new flood of megabeasts could be.

Kraken: The sea-equivalent of the tentacle demon that can traverse land and sea. Uses 10 tentacles to throw everything that isn't nailed down everywhere, including dorfs. Contains lots of fat and meat, it being a squid and everything.

Phoenix: Fire bird of Immortality and Resurrection. Flies and coats the land in flames. The Skin, Fat, Meat, and Bones are very high quality like the Hydra or Dragon (In certain tales, the meat of the Phoenix was said to be the finest of delicacies). Maybe the feathers could be worth something, too.

Griffin: Half lion, half eagle. The Griffin can also fly like the phoenix, but instead of shooting flames, it uses its claws to shred through armor like tin foil.

DF General Discussion / Mormon Dwarves
« on: December 18, 2009, 06:06:18 pm »
This was one of my migrant families some time after the first year (Now in my 4th). With the rise in births, I noticed one particular family kept having kids.

They just added the 6th to their family.

On a side note, the Mayor turned into an adult only the previous year, shortly before he was elected.

Have any of you had this strange anomaly occur?

DF Suggestions / Going up?
« on: December 16, 2009, 06:36:36 pm »
Maybe there should be some incentive for creating a tower that stretches to the heavens. it sounds like lunacy, I'm sure, but I think a lot more people would do it if there was something good waiting for them on the other side.

DF Suggestions / Skill sorting system
« on: December 16, 2009, 01:14:35 pm »
Say you have issues looking for that one Expert-skilled dorf in whatever, but you can't find them in the flood of 80 dorfs. How about in the unit selection screen, you can press 't' or some other button to do a search for dorfs that have that specific skill, and the system will sort them from "Dabbling" to "Legendary" or vice versa.

DF General Discussion / Umm... how would you explain this?
« on: December 13, 2009, 01:55:45 am »

Could the Carp have finally have gained sentience and begun amassing their forces to attack my fortress? They have been there for years now in the game, doing nothing but being a possible deathtrap for anyone who goes near there. It's a good thing they don't walk on land, or I would have issues. All my catapults are on the other side of the fortress; I wouldn't stand a chance in hell.

Oh, and uhhh... I didn't lose a single Dorf to the Carp yet. Maybe they're pissed about that, or the occasional wolf I've tossed into the drink spraying blood from his severed stumps.

DF General Discussion / How do I change the item drops on a corpse?
« on: December 06, 2009, 07:16:04 pm »
I've been scouring the wiki for the past hour looking for a non-cryptic description on how to make something like a horse drop an item like a gold bar (Fucking nobles), but no such luck. Does anyone here know which .txt files to modify and how?

DF General Discussion / Uhhh... why aren't the champions doing anything?
« on: December 02, 2009, 08:45:00 pm »
I just got the baroness and everything else that came with her, and now for some reason, my Champions stopped eating, sleeping, and drinking. They've been stationary ever since the Baroness arrived. I thought Champions were exempt from the whole tax thing?

DF General Discussion / Attack of the Dreaded Hydra!!!..... corpse.
« on: December 02, 2009, 07:21:37 pm »
While I was coincidentally building/finishing my walls around the fortress to prevent shit like this from happening, I get this message.

The Hydra Civila Fafiresali Delado Ayilo has come!

Immediately, I called my only remaining dwarf outside to come back in and seal up the doorway with walls so the Hydra couldn't break in, and ordered my Siege Engineers to haul out the Catapults. After I gave the orders, I went to observe the progress of the Hydra, and I was met with the most anti-climactic event I've yet to see.

It died right as it came into the region...

Crisis averted fun abhorrently ruined!
