DF Suggestions / Going up?
« on: December 16, 2009, 06:36:36 pm »
Maybe there should be some incentive for creating a tower that stretches to the heavens. it sounds like lunacy, I'm sure, but I think a lot more people would do it if there was something good waiting for them on the other side.

DF Suggestions / Skill sorting system
« on: December 16, 2009, 01:14:35 pm »
Say you have issues looking for that one Expert-skilled dorf in whatever, but you can't find them in the flood of 80 dorfs. How about in the unit selection screen, you can press 't' or some other button to do a search for dorfs that have that specific skill, and the system will sort them from "Dabbling" to "Legendary" or vice versa.

Bitchin'.

I missed one more, and I was reminded of it when my Dungeon Master arrived with his entourage.

I've had a massive issue with migrant-splosions in all of my fortresses, larger than the catsplosion *Both conventional and thermonuclear* could ever hope to become. All of my migrant waves have been well over 20 *My first migrant wave in one fortress was 35!!!*, which, even with huge surpluses I enjoy, cause the entire economy to nearly implode unto itself. Would there be a way to limit the number of migrants that arrive at one time? I mean, for Armok's sake, they're dwarves, not Mexicans.

I'd say the impossible-to-fulfill mandates *Make glass in a sandless map*, unexplainably huge recovery times for a Superhumanly Tough Dwarf *A year and ongoing to mend a broken leg*, and the spam of job cancel because the Dwarf can't find the items they were trying to store something in.

Granted, these are minor nitbitchings, but the one that takes the cake is the inability to identify who or what killed who in the universe where, and it involves me searching around for a long time looking for Urist McDorf who got eaten by the local fauna while Hunting or Chopping Wood.

Urist McDorf has been stricken down by the Cock Goblin in 221 Late Spring.

It'd be nice if the view-location option in their menu in the unit selection screen is changed so you can view where they got killed.

What about the one that doesn't have a blue background, then?

That was a perch.

They're still around. I'm thinking of trying the floodgate idea up to the goblin capturing part. They just haven't been around.

Could the Carp have finally have gained sentience and begun amassing their forces to attack my fortress? They have been there for years now in the game, doing nothing but being a possible deathtrap for anyone who goes near there. It's a good thing they don't walk on land, or I would have issues. All my catapults are on the other side of the fortress; I wouldn't stand a chance in hell.

Oh, and uhhh... I didn't lose a single Dorf to the Carp yet. Maybe they're pissed about that, or the occasional wolf I've tossed into the drink spraying blood from his severed stumps.

In the spirit of an episode from Ed, Edd, n' Eddy, I decided to use all my huge masses of stones from below to go UP. I plan to make it encompass the entire Southern half of my region divided by the carp-infested river (Which has yet to claim one Dorf).

What's the purpose of this tower? Well, aside from experience in Masonry and productively disposing of the 20000+ stones in my mines as I hollow out the earth, none, but who gives a crap? Didn't God create Dorfs for the sole purpose of them creating Hyperstructures and giving the Irish competition?

DF General Discussion / How do I change the item drops on a corpse?
« on: December 06, 2009, 07:16:04 pm »
I've been scouring the wiki for the past hour looking for a non-cryptic description on how to make something like a horse drop an item like a gold bar (Fucking nobles), but no such luck. Does anyone here know which .txt files to modify and how?

I'm currently working on increasing the size of my residential district by a capacity increase of 32 *32 per level, 3 levels completed*, and my engravers are working feverishly to smooth out and floor every completed square inch of the fortress. Masons are working on tables and thrones, farmers are stripping the surrounding lands of all shrubbery for their seeds and fruits, and to make way for more tress, which are then cut down and turned into beds and storage bins and barrels by the carpenters (Jesus not included). I'm also working on extravagant rooms (When the Baron[ess] and other nobles arrive) and jails (When the Baron[ess] arrives). Seige Engineers are getting their practice in with catapults for when another Megabeast decides to pop up and doesn't bleed to death just as it enters the region.

I just checked. The legends says he bled to death, and the most recent fight he had before then was about 9 years ago with a dwarf (The dwarf survived the fight).

Yes, there were only two Champions, and they were sparring, judging by the pink flashing on their icons. I'm guessing they were there for about half a season. I tried to tell them to patrol a site, but they still stood there in an eternal man-orgy. And yeah, their current jobs were merely "Soldier", as all champions are, I'm guessing. After all, a champion can't work! Who do you think you are, ordering a champion to pull his weight around here during not-wartime?!

327
no. They were in the barracks, standing down, possibly wrestling, and they were standing on top of one another. They weren't injured either.

DF General Discussion / Uhhh... why aren't the champions doing anything?
« on: December 02, 2009, 08:45:00 pm »
I just got the baroness and everything else that came with her, and now for some reason, my Champions stopped eating, sleeping, and drinking. They've been stationary ever since the Baroness arrived. I thought Champions were exempt from the whole tax thing?

Actually, I'm not as sadistic... towards my own fortress, anyways. I try to make sure every dwarf is happy and every mandate is fulfilled. Last thing I want to see is my fortress clobbered, which is why I was building the wall in the first place.

If the horror stories I hear is correct, this may all fall to pieces with the arrival of the Baroness just now. We'll have to see.

While I was coincidentally building/finishing my walls around the fortress to prevent shit like this from happening, I get this message.

The Hydra Civila Fafiresali Delado Ayilo has come!

Immediately, I called my only remaining dwarf outside to come back in and seal up the doorway with walls so the Hydra couldn't break in, and ordered my Siege Engineers to haul out the Catapults. After I gave the orders, I went to observe the progress of the Hydra, and I was met with the most anti-climactic event I've yet to see.

It died right as it came into the region...

Crisis averted fun abhorrently ruined!
