Hahahaha, this is quite funny.

Try going into units (u) and zooming in on one of your dwarves, they will probably be hanging around your fortress.

And I believe if you construct a floor over a smooth floor tile and then remove it, it will become rough again.

I generally try to keep my dwarves specialised unless I do'nt have enough of them. And all my dwarves generally have masonry activated so I can make mah towers =D

I have modded the game so I am playing using humans (but alcoholic humans, since I have no fresh water). I am in the process of creating a 15x15 tower using only blocks. The first floor has a mosaic of of Cinnabar and Basalt for a floor.

I am eventually going to create running water and magma to each of the rooms =D

I agree, since most of my fortresses are above ground I sometimes have trouble raising the value of rooms and such.

Heh, I get this so often it sucks.

Try switching the Anyone may trade option on and off, thats worked for me a couple of times.
