They just die too quickly.</STRONG>
Maybe its god's will.... Maybe the death of live stock is a sign of the end of days... (of dwarf fortress)
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: will nobles be replaced?

Even when they do arrest a dangerous dwarf, it doesn't matter, because if they've gotten so unhappy they are a danger to the community then imprisoning them is only making it worse (difficult for dwarves to sleep on rough stone, dwarves late on delivering food and water, depression from imprisonment).
All in all, you might as well declare the "Golden Age" of dwarves -over- when you see that first, purple happy face pop up on the far west side of your kingdom.....

« on: January 16, 2008, 07:12:00 pm »The base first floor of the structure is a simple rectangle. But when i was constructing the second level, it gave me the option to build wooden floors hanging over the edge, where there were no walls to support it, only the floor adjacent?
What is the extent to which i can build floors without supports, hanging in the air? Is it the same 9x9? Could i theoretically fill the entire sky with support-less wooden floors??

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Elaborate Throne Room Design Q's
« on: January 15, 2008, 10:28:00 pm »That might be cool, i kinda thought it would be neat if it was clear though, because then she would be looking over my city, governing it, from high above in her place of power.
On a side note, the game crashed after a long time of playing, i lost alot of progress >.<

« on: January 15, 2008, 08:19:00 pm »What workshop creates windows made of gem? It wasn't in the glass or magma glass furnace or the jewelers shop.
Another question i had is that if i channel out the top Z level's floor, so that the 2 Z levels will be connected, will it cause any problems?
As for my gem window- will it matter which order of z levels i build them in? Can i build the gem window in the open space breaking out of the mountain on the second story, then build one below it, without anything collapsing or failing?
Does anyone have any advice or see any foreseeable accidents that might occur (am i missing something) ?
Heres a pic of it and a legend
a = second story gem window
b = second story supports
c = first floor supports
d = first floor gem window
First floor http://img253.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gemwindowgs2.png
Second Floor: http://img182.imageshack.us/my.php?image=secondstorymd2.png

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Dwarves weened off of wells?
« on: January 14, 2008, 06:51:00 pm »I have magma, but i dont know how to harness it. How do you get a constant flow of magma, without overflowing and destroying your fort? Wiki said you need at least a depth of 4 magma to do magma smelting : how? Do you get it to fill into some kind of hole so that it pours out next to your forge? But then how would you get it to not fill -that- hole up?
DF Gameplay Questions / Dwarves weened off of wells?
« on: January 14, 2008, 06:43:00 pm »Anyways, they all became super thirsty while waiting (we had no beer
)for it to get fixed, and i saw them start to drink from our muddy brook that used to supply our well. When i got it back up and running, some of them still wouldnt drink from the well, and i got orders of "cancel give water; no water source".
Is this temporary?
