DF Suggestions / Sleeping length and time periods

Is there a reason sleeping in Adventure mode takes a rather long amount of real world time? I almost feel like going to do something else while my character rests. Also, why must sleeping always be exactly eight hours? It would be neat to see sleep time based on the tiredness of the character and how long straight he has been awake. Extremely tired characters will collapse for twelve hours like a teen on summer vacation, while wide awake characters will only be able to toss and turn for a short period of time. If the player wants to wait until a specific time, a loitering system could be added, which has the adventurer wait for a number of hours, which, like sleeping, will be disturbed by events. Since the adventurer is awake while loitering, however, he will have a greater situational awareness and thus be disturbed by a wider range of events. This would definitely be more interesting than the current time-management system in the game.
