DF Gameplay Questions / Game Crash

I finish my setup with my dwarfs, their skills and the items I'm bringing; I hit e to embark.  I get the start paragraph to "Strike the Earth".  I've hit ENTER and the game shuts down.  I've tried ESC, same result.  Has something changed to actually get the game to kick off?

DF Gameplay Questions / Fortress Mode with abandoned fortresses

Is there a way to generate already abandoned fortresses that you can then go to in Fortress Mode?  I saw a DF YouTube series where it appears the YT'er has done that but I'm unaware of how to generate, let alone find this as an option or find the abandoned locale ingame.  Thanks in advance for any guidance.

To clarify, he did not build the fortress and then abandon it and restart to reclaim the fortress.  The fortress was "pre-abandoned" in his world gen.

DF Gameplay Questions / Clay Collection

I've got a kiln set up with a clay job.  I've set two separate clay collection zones but it doesn't appear as if they are saving as a zone and I continue to get a job cancel notice for not having a clay zone set up.  Is this broken currently (it's not something I normally use) or is there a trick to get it to work?

 Hey guys looking for a new YouTube channel to watch dwarf fortress let's plays wanted to see who you guys recommended.

 There were three guys that I have been watching for a long time, Quill18, dastastic and Marcus Aurelius.  Sadly, Marcus just announced he is shutting down his channel after four years. Quill does not do many DF plays.  I found a few channels but unfortunately they appear to be extremely young you tubers that drop F bombs every other word. While the word itself doesn't bother me I really don't need to hear that 500 times an episode when I'm trying to watch stuff.

So any good "more on the mature side"  channels that you could recommend?

Back playing after a layoff, I recall there was a command to enter (similar to alt-w for workshop commands) that would target an entire vein for automining.  I can't recall it, does anyone have that information please.

Are they forbidden?
No.  In doing the autodump, some items from the piles get taken while others are left behind.  So I didn't know if it might be due to "type of item" but did find it strange.

So using the autodump command in DF Hack, why do some items allow you to move them and some don't?

I know there are some circumstances when those items (say stones) are already allocated to another job.  But in my case I have a ton of stuff at the bottom of a gorge laying in a major river.  It's totally inaccessible to anyone so they can't be claimed for other purposes.

So I have a neat embark spot with a deep gorge and a major river at the bottom.  I am doing some building in the gorge using glass blocks.  So a few questions about this...

1. Glass and building destroyers?  Are these "solid" walls for defense purposes?
2. The river freezes in winter...if I build an "underwater level" with a floor, walls and ceiling that would be submerged during "non-frozen" parts of the year will this work?
3. Glass windows...how are they affected by the above two queries?

 Would this be possible and how would you go about it?  Basically if you would actually want to build a Waterworld type civilization where your building on the ocean surface or lake surface and then building up and down from there.

Hey guys, I am wanting a particular embark where I had 2-4 small mountain peaks with lower "valley" areas between them.  What would I look for on site selection screen to have a shot at something like that?

I have checked a few sites where I had something like this for elevation:

4519**
5539**

So I was thinking the 5's would be nice peaks going over a valley area (1, 3) and then into a sheer mountain face (9, *)...but only one turned out to have a mountain peak that I could dig into.  Any thoughts on what to be targeting for this embark site?

So what I've done on the main level is the following:
1. Extended the walls of the holding cisterns (main level) to the south along both sides of the pump.  Then removed the wall immediately to the north of the pump as noted in the above comment.
2. Placed a floor over the top left corner of the pit (with water in it) to allow a dwarf to stand on it to access the pump.
3. Had the dwarf activate the pump.

No water flow at all



So as noted...
1. Without the floor the dwarf cannot access the pump.
2. The pumps can only be placed on solid ground; if I put the "input" end of the pump over the water it turns red and will not allow placement.
