Just had another elf caravan.  I had removed all bins and brought only individual stone pieces out to the Depot.  Traded with no problem.  Appears even bins offend them.

Just noticed that my 7/7 river has frozen solid even at the second z level and is now an ice wall.

If I make a well with a 2 or 3 z-level well, and it's about 10 z- levels under the surface...will these cisterns freeze up in winter?

Is there a way to do a bulk assignment to a burrow?

Takes so long to go through every dwarf...I can't even fathom if I ever get to the pop cap.  Especially when it's just for when attacked and I want to ensure everyone is inside before I hit the bridge lever.  Lost three people out wandering and smelling the flowers yesterday.

So I've built a basic well.  That's done.  I put a floodgate in and also a wall grate behind it to keep animals from getting through into my cistern.

Well, some small shad got in anyway and now I have a couple of full grown perch in my cistern.

Wondering if I channel a hole near my well into the cistern if my fisherdwarf can drop a line in there for easy catching from inside the fortress?

In the wiki I see the rooms needed...are these private chambers?  So if my mayor asks for a dining room...this is one assigned just to him?

Nope, no crafted stone swords.  Had some hammers that I've got my militia using.  So not that either.

I'll double check next time...but 99.9% sure didn't trade any bins..just T trade toggled each individual item.

Nothing fancy going on yet.  No decorations of any type.  Just plain stone crafts from the craftsdwarf shop in three wood bins.  I'll try without the bins next time.

I don't make any wood crafts..stone only to sell.  The only thing wood was the bins.  I gave them about a 150% profit margin thinking that might be the issue.  This is four elf caravans in a row that have all left immediately after one "t" trade offer.

Anyway, I'm trying to do this in regard to corpses laying around with necromancers...don't want that I hear.

So I just build a refuse dump right next to the shaft...and yep they hauled IMMEDIATELY.  So it's something in my setup with the dump pit itself.

so I've got about a 15 level pit dug out.
I've sealed off the room with a wall.
I've got the channels at the surface.

I can't get it to take p/r refuse piles but I can create a garbage dump..however I can't adjust the dump settings to take corpses.

I see a ton of posts about dump pits for live creatures...assume they work for dead ones.  Help me get this set up please.

So I read a post about elf trading and them not liking wood.

Does this include bins?  I carry goods in bins..but don't sell the bins and they still get uppity and leave every time.

Well the moods are hitting fast and furious.  My lowly peon just got hit and claimed the Craftsdwarf shop.

His unskilled creation...Lithrushnirmek "The Fetid Defense"...a sand pear wood cup.  It's decorated with horse leather and has an image of Eve Trickgale the human and Erith Phantomlabor the dwarf with Phantomlabor striking down the human with a Bronze spear.  LOL

I had this issue myself.  check your d_init file to see if you have Strict_Population_Cap: 220.

If you only have Population_Cap (and not Strict), this appears to be the cause.  I think mine was due to a tileset I was using.  I switched over to the LNP which had the same tileset and it was fixed.

Still early going in my current fortress.  My metalsmith got bored with no forge (no fuel material so far...bituminous or lignite).  Got a mood, so I built the forge anyway.  He took it over and crafted...

Ometenas "Flukedoctrine"..a steel sarcophagus of the highest quality.  Decorated with oak and menaces with spikes of steel.  Value of 73200*.
