Diary of Goden Taltotdakost:

1st Limestone, 1067

Mother was working on the power linkages today. We have a wave basin set up, with waterwheels providing power to a pump stack below. the overseer says it'll be a great surprise when it's done, and that we'll all love it. I hope so, but life seems so great here. I asked where the water in the basins came from and was told to be quiet, and I'm not sure why they didn't just connect the two power stations with an axle, instead of going so far down and bringing it back up. it seems silly to waste so much power.

I see the engravings on the wall, dwarves killing other dwarves, bears eating elves. Goblins... The adults sure do like their fairy tales. none of those things actually exist, They all tell us that they are real, but we would have seen them if they were real. when I was really little I remember we dug into a big cave. The Overseer demanded we build biiiiiig walls all the way to the ceiling, and they did. the walls are still there, but sometimes we dig under them. we're still not allowed outside the tunnels into the big cave though...

sometimes Kivish says he sees things, far in the distance when he's gathering the cave spider silk that forms in the tunnels down there. He can never see quite what they are, but every so often we hear a scary noise. it makes me nervous, but nothing ever goes wrong here. Maybe it's got something to do with the strange rock I saw once. It was cold and melted in your hands, what I remember most is that it glowed, like a gem in front of a fire, just a soft, pale blue glowy. I don't tell mother and father, but I remember something else. it was another cave, but instead of darkness, like the other one, it is filled with light. the air MOVED, fast and cold through my beard. the light made me sick. Dodok once said something about it, so I know it's not just me. but he disappeared after his parents told him to be quiet and stop telling lies, his parents said he got inspired. that's how a lot of people go. we are not very fancy, like some of the places I saw in engravings, so we do not have "shells" but people want them anyways. then they come back... changed, or they don't come back at all. one day the door unlocks and their body is just lying there, wasted away and dry as sand. but I know I saw it too, he wasn't lying.

The old play room was made entirely out of glass! we don't have any more mother says, but it's fun to just sit and watch the fish swim around us. sometimes people go into the glowy blue rock outside. but they've never gone into that cave again.

But everything is fine in HonoredSalve. sometimes bad things just happen. but the overseer will protect us. always.

They ARE dwarves. they've been working with magma since the dawn of time.

For me It's Immortalis, I could imagine something like this echoing through the halls of my mountainhome.

on the cavern security front I patched two small holes in my stone curtain that Cordons my section of the caverns off from the seven FBs.

Expanding into my second power reservoir. I don't need the extra 900 power yet, but it never hurts to be able to rig up an emergency water cannon.

at this rate my fort will be seigable within the next 6-10 years.

I just realized that if you drop everything from the surface down you'll flood the world with magma if it's a large enough segment.

ok then I think I've patched the security hole. one teeny missed wall has now been installed. anyone know if they can deconstruct in flight? I'd assume they can. so far the only weakness is my drain.

hoping that FBs can't fly.

Can flying things move THROUGH fortifications?

*currently has 7 fbs running around in the basement, one of which is a mite with wings*

I find aquifers to be valuable sources of infinite water.

population continuing it's slow, ponderous climb.

More positively we now have a fully functional waterfall system covering the entirety of the dining room! well, it works for the waterfall part, not so much the drainage right now. I've not managed to hook up all the drains in the primary and secondary cisterns, so the flow is asymmetric, which leads to flooding. once it's done it'll be awesome. I had to turn off cave ins to get it done though, as I built my drain right above my magma vent and couldn't find the way to stop it from pausing and centering.

Think I've figured out how to protect my poor saplings from the ravages of Children Hordes. designating each sapling in a 1x1 Restricted traffic zone.  :D

this is very common.

power grid is nearly finished, then just need to finish hooking up the hatches to the control room to begin my waterfall surrounded dining room.
