 :(

My computer monitor died, now I'm stuck using my old dell 4600 computer. My desk doesn't have enough room for the CRT monitor and my newer computers tower. I can't put the tower on the floor either, it would suck up to much dust down there...

Well, atleast my birthday is roughly a month away. I can have them help me get a new monitor. I was thinking about getting this one http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Gaming_Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-8218 It looks pretty good, don't know that much about monitors though.

I just started a good Genesis mod fort too. It was a good map setup, terrifying with a really big volcano (right on a sheer cliff, extends as just an obsidian tube for several z levels). I like to go for Mordor like forts. Oh well  :'( I'll have to try to pick it back up sometime next month. Hell, I was planning on replaying the stalker series too... this sucks.

I think a computer smart enough to decide that it must kill all humans would be smart enough to avoid absurd questions.

Going to have to agree with that. Anyways, we all know the best way to defeat robots is to send wave after wave of soldiers at them until they reach their kill limit.

I have firefox and internet explorer opened up side by side right now. I can not figure out why internet explorer refuses to show my avatar while firefox isn't giving me any issues. This is going to bother me until I figure it out...

ArKFallen: Eh. Yeah I guess that sounds like it.

My avatar disappeared, that makes me sad. Off topic, or is it on topic? lmao

I can see it, did you switch computers?

Nope, its odd. Tried closing and opening explorer but it did nothing. I'll switch to firefox and see if that works

-EDIT-

That worked, dunno why I even bother with internet explorer anymore...

Hmm, so far we've got several proposed solutions.
Run away/advoidance of them
Ignoring them
Retaliate against them
Preemptive strikes
We also have coming off as unhinged and dangerous, proposed by MaximumZero.

Must have missed that one, sounds like it could be useful against the right type of bully. Never did that one myself either, probably can't emote well enough to pull it off. Then again the one time I was stabbed in the leg with a pencil and didn't do much of anything probably came off that way now that I think about it.

Preemptive strikes

Ignoring them avoiding them, and running away don't solve anything, personally, I consider it nearly irresponsible. If you do somehow divert their attention from you they will simply attack other targets. I accept that many are not capable of self defence though, so in that case disregard the bit about irresponsibility. Not everyone can be strong and/or cunning.

Retaliation is the one I'm most for atm. I mainly brought up only physical earlier but there're is more than one way to retaliate. Seeking someone with authority is a path to take but rarely brings results in a school setting, with proof its a more effective choice in other settings. There is also the route of manipulation, what you would have to do for this to work depends highly on the situation. Could be anything from turning people friendly toward them hostile to provoking an attack from them in front of someone who wont tolerate them. I generally feel bad about the manipulation approach.

Preemptive strikes drifts to close to defensive bullying for me. Reminds me of an inmate shanking the biggest guy they see in jail on their first day to establish dominance or something lol. I have no experience with this one so I can't really comment on it. I will say however that as long as its known, proven bullys I can't see much morally wrong in it.

How would you retaliate then? If nobody with any authority can put a stop to it what do you do?

I sat there quietly and continued my work as she hit me (she had at least 30 pounds and significant athleticism on me, so this wasn't an ooh, weak female situation).  For the other one, I took my things back as necessary or rescued my homework, and then I got back to work.

I'm a math student, remember?  Extreme concentration skills are basically a job requirement.

I see, to each there own then. I ended up ignoring bullies when I became depressed. Just made it worse than before from my experience. They would back off for a bit after I would fight back on the rare occassion, but they would be back soon after they seen I wouldn't do anything to them again. I don't see just ignoring it solving the problem though. Atleast a dumb animale can learn not to do things that get them hurt, bullies seem to work in the same way.

You shouldn't ever try to punish people for what they might do.

If you see them do it to others I don't really consider it a "what they might do" situation. They just are not attacking you because your not a good enough target yet.

Why defend them when they would harm you for no real reason?

Because, unless they are seriously threatening your life and long-term health, there is no need to hurt them.

Of course, I had trouble because folks didn't believe me when I was getting beat up.  I was able to act as though I weren't in pain, despite my arm being covered in bruises, and so they assumed I couldn't be hurt.  Stoicism can be useless sometimes.

How would you retaliate then? If nobody with any authority can put a stop to it what do you do?

Does it make me a bad person if I believe in preemptive retaliatory strikes in a position with bullies or whatever? Strikes meant to be so disproportional that they are unable to strike me back?

Are you saying you have solid proof they are bullies? Seen them assualt someone else who was just minding their own business? If so I see no problem with that as long as you make it clear to them why you did it. I should say I don't support outright killing of bullies. Thats a bit crazy even for me, not saying that wouldn't be needed in some rare situations though... Like this one case where these bullies nearly suffocated a lil girl to death while essentually torturing her. I can't remember where I heard that from now, was awhile ago.

-Edit-

Fixed some spelling

I disagree with you on that, but you probably already knew that. Why defend them when they would harm you for no real reason?

I tend to agree with hitting bullies back.

Oh yeah, it makes me sad that people can get away with harming Innocents unscathed.

Quod est absurdum.

Sorry about that, fixed it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who hates summer. I thought you guys would think I was crazy lol. It just rained here and some of it cooked off before sunset. Damn humidity, now I feel sticky all over :(.

I tend to agree with hitting bullies back. Its the only way they really learn that its not appropriate to act that way. Especially since people who staff the schools are so damn useless. Wish I had used more violence when I was younger. I realize this isn't an option for most, I had the advantage of berserking when pushed to much. Well, feeling no pain and pushing your muscles as far as they can go is a great advantage, but the loss of any real ability to think, tunnel vision, and large drop in balance kinda made it a double edged sword. Atleast it felt good lol.

One thing that got them to atleast take some action on my behalf was to inform them that I was being harrassed and if they don't do anything it will eventually result in violence (either from me or the others). If your good with words this can be quite effective, just make sure you actually go through with it if they don't listen to reason. Could be the difference between them listening next time or ignoring you.

Oh yeah, it makes me sad that people can get away with harming others (Innocent people I mean) unscathed. Worse yet they are often allowed to continue seeking petty enjoyment through the suffering of others by the same people they would harm, either through inaction or active protection. I've never understood why those who say they are good and/or just tolerate the existance of such people.

Bleh

Feeling discontent, and I can't figure out why. Eating/drinking didn't help, maybe its the humidity. I hate summer. Too hot, too humid, too many people out, my skin burns up, my birthday occurs at summer time, everyone else loves summer, everyone whines about me being in my room... I hate summer. Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate

I feel a lil better now. As part of my efforts to brute force myself out of my constant depression I'm going to force myself to go walk in the part tomorrow. Even if it burns and people bother me. Probably going to regret posting this rant later.... Oh well, going to sleep.
