overlordFT, he would've been about 10, so there's a fairly good chance he would remember (that is, the wall coming down).

Also, you're just making this into an argument again. So go away or learn some manners, please.

I am surprised at the amount of married people on here. Isn't everyone who plays DF an unsocial loser? :p

I don't bother myself with the ethics of turning little smiley faces and capital "E"s with black backgrounds into little smiley faces and capital "E"s with red backgrounds.

This.

Moral Guardians seem convinced that making pixels change colours is responsible for increasing violence. I'd theorise it has to do with sleep deprivation and bad parenting, myself.

Personally, I'd just like for armour to be easier to tweak in the RAWs. Main things otherwise -

Chain mail should cover the neck, throat and head, like a "metal hoodie" as stated above.
Plate mail should either be renamed to cuirass (for accuracy) or have its protection extended to the shoulders and possibly the upper arms.
Helms should cover facial features.
Gauntlets and boots need to cover fingers and toes.

I'm sticking with .12 because of the civs splurging everywhere, mainly. The immigrant issues seem annoying as well, so I'll stick with what I have.

What? Just floor the open parts over.

That leads to the "stone greenhouse" effect - convenient if you want safe green or red dyes (or whip vine flour, etc.), bad if you want to grow actual food.

I've found a night and day different in FPS hits when using spiral ramps and blocks of up/down stairs.

A 2x2 or 3x3 block of up/down stairs is vastly, vastly more efficient than a spiral ramp. Sadly this has forced me to abandon the spiral ramp design, as awesome as it looks. The FPS hit is just too severe.

I don't build stairs everywhere though. The blocks of stairs are used sparingly, with them being the only way to reach that other area above or below the main level.

I've gained probably 100 FPS from abandoning spiral ramps and going back to up/down stair blocks.

Oddly, my FPS went the other way. I suppose that I assumed spiral staircases were good for my FPS, when it was my penchant for flat, shallow embarks instead.

(I'll try and get a picture of my spiral staircase up soon. It's quite nice in my opinion.)

Don't forget to clad your dwarves in the armor of cotton candy contempt.

COTTON CANDY IS NAUGHT BUT THE SWORD AND SHIELD OF THE DAEMON AND THE HERETIC!

Efficiency is boring.  :(

The most efficient fortress is made entirely out of up/down stairs, with the occasional flat spot for workshops or furniture. But this fortress design is extremely boring to play.

WRONG!

A spiral staircase of ramps is significantly more efficient. On FPS, at any rate, and that's what matters.

Heh, it seems that 31.13 has more bugs than 31.01 did upon release  :D

Well, I'll be genning worlds in 31.12 and transferring them to .13 to avoid the whole "great tracts of land" issue.

I don't care that much about the cotton candy right now anyway. I'm fine with chocolate bullets.

Well, I'm glad that I managed to make someone laugh with that joke. I've tried it before in similar threads and I was taken seriously. >_>

Starting my first Fortress Defense Mod fort. I managed to find my dwarven heaven - a completely flat site with four soil layers, limestone (!), granite, marble and gabbro.

And it's Untamed Wilds, so grizzly bear army ahoy.

Watering the farms took a while because the water wouldn't spread evenly. So far everything is peachy, and I'm ecstatic about it. Now to transfer it over to 31.13...

Digging out lots of stone does cause FPS problems. Atomsmash your spare stone for extra FPS.

Blood's also a pain. If you can get DFHack, it has a script for cleaning up blood, at any rate. You can also turn invaders off, but that spoils the fun.

You can also generate fewer caverns, and embark on flattish sites. I have a 5-year old laptop which can run about 70-80 FPS on a flat, shallow site lacking running water with 50-60 dwarves.

EDIT: Nearly forgot - spiral ramp staircases. Not normal ones, but a big circular corkscrew going through your fort. Your FPS will love you.
