DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The Little Questions Thread

If I build a constructed floor "gangplank" off the edge of a cliff, how can i deconstruct it (sending the gangplank and anything on it plummeting ten z-stories) without putting one of my dwarves at risk of falling with it?

You -can- get your fort to last indefinitely... the main issue is that most forts end with either spectacular failure or players getting bored and just starting a new one. If you're looking for some "win conditions" to strive for:

1.) Make your fort completely self-contained - impenetrable to sieges and attacks and not requiring trade to survive or thrive.
2.) Build a mega-project successfully (giant statue, massive magma waterfall, perpetual motion machine, etc.)
3.) Reach (and sustain) the 200 dwarf population cap.
4.) Defeat the HFS.

I'm amused by the idea of putting a drawbridge-catapult-trap at the top, with pressure plates or a lever you could assign to specific unwanted nobles. Just the thought of captured goblins or stupid nobles being launched via drawbridge from the top of an 18-story tower makes me smile :D

Will a raised drawbridge stop magma?

DF Bug Reports / [40d] [RESOLVED - NOT A BUG] Dwarves won't haul furniture?
« on: December 18, 2009, 10:14:56 am »
My dwarves stopped hauling furniture for some reason. My workshops are getting very cluttered, and I've assigned Furniture Hauling to ALL dwarves, but none of them will move them to the stockpiles. If I tell them to place the furniture somewhere using the Build command, they'll take it from the workshops, but they won't touch them otherwise.

I keep checking my Units list, and I've constantly got about a quarter of my fort with "No Job". Any idea what could be wrong?
