I must be the only one who hasn't tried getting any sharpness skills. Then again I consider myself fairly casual, despite liking the game so much. Never tried doing any mixed armor sets or any of that jazz, even though that seems to be the draw for lots of people.

Just poked into Generations a couple days ago. I still haven't made much progress in that game. I don't even think I've done much of the online stuff even.

Yes, Escaped Lunatic, we've got a thread for that.

Pretty sure you need to complete the quest, though

So, how do I shield-surf? And isn't there a way to use the Sheikah slate to see enemy HP? Or was that removed since E3?
Hold L2 and push A while you're in the air.

You need a piece of equipment to see enemy health.

It's almost like a bad thing happened.

I mean, the whole point of having astress test is to test servers, but there's no point if you have no servers.

And if they just wanted to do it as a demo then it wouldn't be only open at specific times

So Nintendo is doing a sort of open beta for Splatoon 2 ("global testfire") and it appears that they're using P2P connections. Getting some For Honor flashbacks here. If they stick with P2P servers then I am going to seriously question just what the hell they're going to be using the internet subscription fee to pay for.

Or people should label their spoiler tags, like he did.
(I haven't looked inside it myself, still haven't beaten the game)

Why the "no 3d zeldas ever" rule? Play games because they're good, not because they're 2d or 3d.

So I just want to quickly touch on the weapon durability thing again since that seems to be the major complaint people have with this game.

Are these people playing the game wrong or something? I'm drowning in so many high quality weapons that I'm at the point where I'm dropping old weapons to pick up fresh ones instead of letting them break. I haven't really tried using shields, so at one point my entire shield inventory was just knight shields, however I now have even better shields I'll probably end up not using (although I did just get spoiled on something by accident so we'll see if that changes).

I haven't even tried using the Master Sword because all my other weapons do more damage.

Also: Lynels... is it me or do they all have ridiculously high health. They seem more like an endurance test than an actual fight now. Spam those flurry rushes.

So you know those elemental swords that you pick up in "blessing" shrines? Are those things you can find out in the world? I don't think I've ever come across them aside from those shrines.

I just realized I'll never be able to complete my compendium because I didn't take a picture of one of the bosses =(

Here I am having only tamed one of the beasts. Sidequests, man.
Just reached an island that basically turns the game into one of those survival crafting games that are a dime a dozen these days.

I found MH3U to be a good introduction to the series... or at least that's how I felt it being my first MH game.
MH4U adds a few things and I felt was a little more challenging, and unlike 3U you can actually play online multiplayer.
MHGen is the latest in the series and more likely than not has the most active online community. It does throw a lot of stuff at you at once which might not be so great for a beginner. However the "DMC-type moves" mentioned above do make the game easier, IMO. (It's also something I hope the tone down a lot or remove entirely in the next generation of games)

If you're not planning on doing multiplayer I feel MH3U has the best singleplayer. The entirety of low-rank is essentially a giant tutorial where you don't have to really worry about other monsters showing up to ruin your fight (unless you're fighting Qurupeco, which is the 'other monsters showing up to ruin your fight tutorial' monster.)

If you do want to play multiplayer... well it's a toss-up between 4U and Gen. I would say go with Gen simply because it's more active and may be more indicative of what to expect from future games in terms of weapons, movesets, palicos, etc. The weapon upgrade system also gives you a better sense of progression than in the other games.

By the way, if you do pick up a Monster Hunter game, be prepared for 50 hours of gameplay to be the equivalent of pushing start after booting up in other games. You'll be sinking hours and hours into it... or you'll hate it and never play it again. it's not for everyone.

E: Oh yes, almost forgot. You can probably post in the Monster Hunter thread and find someone who'd be willing to play multiplayer with you if you don't feel comfortable playing with pugs.

I find mechs to be a silly idea in the first place, more of a 'rule of cool' vehicle, but whatever. Vehicles don't seem to work too well in these sidescrolling type games anyways unless the game is designed around them. Has anyone even tried using the hoverbike or boats? I've never bought one, didn't seem worth the pixels.
