My mayor went berserk.  I had forgotten about the fact that he was a hunter before he was elected, and that he still carried a crossbow and quiver.  In fact, upon closer inspection, those were the only two things he had.
So he ran around, naked, covered in dog pus, shooting everyone he saw.  There were only a few casualties, but one child witnessed the whole spectacle and went melancholy.

EDIT:
Tantrum spiral!!  Ever since a winged blob of ash (I'm imagining it looks like something out of Doom) died, everyone's been going berserk.  Especially military dwarfs and miners... (or maybe those are the only ones I'm paying any attention to)

The Forgotten Beast ena Lithemegife Apa Nethitha has come!  A towering toad with external ribs.  It has a round shell and it squirms and fidgets.  Its black skin is warty.  Beware it's fire!

My fort, which I thought I would have to reclaim, has settled down nicely.  Unfortunately, most of my jewelers are dead and many of my metalworkers are in prison.  I had some stuff I wanted to do involving metal and jewelry, so this is kind of a drag.

EDIT:  Oh cool, I just passed into the Age of Legends.   8)

Return to Oz.  That dwarfy looking fellow from my profile pic is one of the main characters.
He isn't a dwarf, but he does live in a mountain, kill people (or something) for stealing his gems, and have lots of gem-encrusted stuff.

A berserk child just choked a baby to death.  They were both trapped outside during a human siege.
Also, lots of dwarfs are dying of thirst, despite the thousands of drinks.  There's probably a reason, but I don't care enough to check it out.

It's been a long time since I've dealt with a tantrum spiral.  And I'm on the verge of a 171 dwarf spiral.  Hopefully I'll have a couple of cheery survivors to finish this big construction.

A hydra came, a couple of hammerdwarfs killed it.  It was a pretty groovy fight, with lots of head-crushing and bone-chipping.  One part that caught my attention was when the militia captain, having just shattered the bones of the hydra's right foot, immediately "scratched" that same foot with his hand, tearing it open.

My population is over 200 right now.  I guess my high survival rate drew the attention of Armok;  a human law-giver came to my fortress, and, a few seconds later, a goblin ambush appeared right next to him.  Their last law-giver was also killed by goblins on my land.

A dwarf by the name of Bembul Mountainmurders just showed up in a migrant wave.  She has a little bit of macedwarf skill, and I just got an artifact mace.  So I'm calling her "The Chosen One".
