DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

Nice.  :D

I think I just made a mistake... I decided to honor my most useful dwarf, a legendary Mechanic, with the rank of Baron.  I just realized, that probably means she won't be working anymore... D'oh!
If that's the case, I'm going to give her a strapping young male "apprentice", have him become a legendary mechanic, and hope that they develop a relationship and get married.

Edit:  YAY!  She's still working!  Niiiiiice!

This same fort has far too many anoimals- they make up 2/3 of my fortress population. Any suggestions for mass killing of animals without killing my workers as well?

Are they pets?  If not, the most obvious answer is a butcher.  If so... maybe an animal pit that features spike traps?

I just had a pretty badass moment.  I'll try to describe it.

So there I was, minding my own business, building and stuff, when a vile force of darkness arrived.  I did the usual routine, sending all my dwarves to the emergency shelter, and stationing my military so that, if any invaders made it in, they could kill them.

At this time, my only entrance is... well, I can't think of the term for it, so just take a glance at this: http://mkv25.net/dfma/poi-25674-temporaryentrance

Anyway, I usually keep the first door open, and one of the other two open.  That way, goblins try and path into it through the traps, and then I can close it just in time, making them go back through traps again.  It works pretty well, usually.  This time, however, a Troll managed to destroy the first door and reach one of the others without getting sliced up.  I sent my military through the other door and around the corner to kill it.  They made quick work of it, and I immediately had them return to their starting position, to wait for more goblins.

Two badasses, Likot Dikewhip (Militia Commander and Axedwarf) and Fikod Trumpetinched (Grizzled veteran and one-handed Speardwarf), ignored me and went in the other direction.  They ran outside and attacked the other goblin squad, which hadn't even reached the fortress yet.  The goblins ran for their lives, but these two were fast, and slaughtered at least 2/3rds of them.  I sent the other soldiers out to support them (after all, they are among my favorites, and I don't want them dead just yet), but they didn't help much, and even managed to hurt themselves.

A hauler made an adamantine sarcophagus. It's decorated with lapis lazuli. It has the elf Aye Gravellakes on it in adamantine.
I sure hope he isn't an elf enthusiast.

Use it to bury elves alive.

I don't have the FPS counter turned on, but my FPS definitely just dropped by a lot after a siege.  Since Runesmith isn't compatible at the moment, and I didn't have nearly enough dwarfpower to deal with it, I tried raw-editing the goblins to death.  It worked (though my game crashed when I tried to do it to the trolls).

In other news, yesterday I fought my first Titan, some ridiculous web-shooting eyeless dinosaur with a fat trunk.  It wasn't the first Titan to come to the fortress, but the last one ended up getting killed by goblins, so this was the first one my soldiers got to fight.  We won, of course.

I'm running low on iron, as usual.  Lots of magnetite, though, so it's just a matter of time.

I had an engraving entitled "The Blameless Seduction".  What was this engraving of?  A dog.

'Cause hey, who can blame you?

You should make him a pimp-suit.  Mod in feathered hats.

I always think of "Cerol" as a female name, because of the time me and my friend made seven or eight adventurers who died trying to kill the Dwarven Queen, whose name was Cerol.  Also, it's spelled like "Carol".
I usually associate the names "Meng" and "Cog" with expedition leaders, mainly just because I really like the names.

This gave me an idea (which I'm pretty sure is still on-topic):
1.  Creature (who can swim) gets sealed into shaft.
2.  Shaft fills with water.
3.  Creature swims up Z-levels.
4.  Floodgate on side of shaft opens, creature and water exit through it.
5.  All the water gets drained somewhere.

Has something like this been done?  If not, is it doable?

I'm about 1/5 of the way done with the main part of my semi-megaproject, the Iron Tunnel of Clashworks. (I may make a thread about that eventually.)
My military just had their first real battle in years, against 2 goblin squads.  Most of their new recruits died, but the three old timers survived, and one of them got a new name.  Also, one of them got his hand severed by a bolt.
That's pretty much it.  Oh, and there's lots of dumping going on.

Haha, I noticed that while I was drawing it, and I hoped nobody else would.  :P
Officially, it's behind his notepad/paper/whatever.  He's holding a pen against the paper so he can start writing down the new trade agreement as soon as the mayor starts talking.  I couldn't quite figure out how to make that, though.
Alternatively, he lost that arm last time he came to the fortress.
Or he's bodygripping.

It looks to me like the dwarf stands in the same spot every time:  the exact center.  I'm pretty sure that's a light green spot.  I actually did manage to get the dwarves to build one of the two siege workshops I wanted, but the second one is still having this problem.  I've tried deconstructing and reconstructing several times.
I guess I don't really need 2, but it'd be nice.

I'm still having this problem.  I'm playing 0.31.14 now.
