If you read the 4.10 thread, you would know that USEC_OFFICER spent his time writing fluff for his custom faction there, and he also is in the 4.08 game, in a position where he has many armies while not being the leader (so his turn takes time to plan).

If 2 days are too logn for you to start a game, you should seriously think about not playing.

So, what kind of consequences are there from taking death scales ?

Don't forget about the old-age afflictions :
If a non-undead non-lifeless has old-age, it may get a new affliction every year, with a chance based on the death/growth scale in tis province.
With growth3, it has approx 10 times less chances of affliction than in death3, or something like that.

(and as with every scales, there are new events. Mainly pop-loss ones, with death)

Ok, advice time, then :
Don't do Elf.
I know it's in Orc, but it's clearly harder, and the reward isn't worth the risk. Most experienced players don't even enter Elf when doing a 3-rune game (what you should be aiming for your first win).
Elf generally isn't "that" hard but can get spikes of difficulty at anytime. And the vault in Elf:3 is clearly one of the most difficult in the game, because of the potential damage from the numerous Hellfire and the high speed attacks (master archers and the melee dual wielders who can have quickblades).

The "problem" with W40k is the lack of Magic.
Dominions is based on the fact that nations have access to magic paths to a certain extend, to work correctly.
And if you modded all the W40k nations without magic in dominions.... Well, you would have a pretty "classic" wargame, and no use playing it as a Dom4 mod, as most other wargames would fit it better :/
