DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Adamantine in Worldgen?
« on: March 10, 2010, 12:05:35 pm »
It must be taken from an abandoned fortress as a dwarf (Size issues, narrow, large, small, all that Bulls*it) And I believe adamantine is so rare (To civs, obviously) that they couldn't afford to give it to anyone, especially some ragtag adventurer that probably won't survive a month.

The adamantine would make sure said ragtag adventurer would survive.
Besides that; You can remove the [DEEP] tag from Adamantine in the raws if you really want them to use it.

Play on a map with a lot of evil regions and you'll have lots of nice unbutcherable zombies to play with.

You could also give it no [HEAD] tag as well.

Or make it so that some of it's heads have poisonous bites, others burning bites, and perhaps some more nasty effects.

EVERY. SINGLE. STONE.

I once drained my underground river into a chasm just because I couldn't stand the fact my miners managed to drop one stone into the river.

I've got a few methods to build myself my 'epic' fortresses and still be functional.

My favorite is what I call 'Underground Migration'.

I first dig my entrance, for example, and build my basics in there. When I'm done, I start digging on again, and eventually migrate my entire fortress deeper into the mountain. The area I then no longer need I fill with traps or nice features like bridges with lava or gigantic caves. By doing this my dwarves leave epicness in their trail. Eventually I'll have find a spot deep enough in the earth to start making actual bedrooms. (Normally I place beds in my hallways or some rooms, then to deconstruct and re-place them when I migrate.)

Try it. It's fun.

DF Modding / Re: Main attack

They choose a random attack, unless they're holding anything. In that case, they will always use that attack.

The secondary attacks will only be used when none of the main attacks are available.

you draw it with a...... PENCIL! its easy, paper enough and you can adjust changes which wont be easy with software.

I actually made a large grid with pen once, then drawing my design with pencil. If I didn't like it I could just erase it again.

You could also make grids with paint, print a few of these, label those with Z-level numbers. (Z1, Z2, Z3, et cetera) and then draw your design on those.

I put everything in wrestling, decided to visit a goblin fortress, attacked a few children, strangled a guard (after disarming him) and then was shot through the head by a crossbowgoblin. I thought it ended fairly well.

There is the point of the made weapons not having any quality modifiers, though.

They stay in your head or whatever they're stuck in as you 'T'ravel. Just make sure not to pull out one in a fight, as you'll probably be bleeding already and won't have any use to be bleeding even worse.

One of my coolest adventurers has a steel bolt stuck in her head (from when she cleansed the mountain homes on her own), and as such I nicknamed her 'Bolthead'.

13. Yes, you should be able to extend the list for every time of item (For example; 'Marble Mechanisms') and pick the mechanisms of the quality you like to use there. If you do not do that, they'll take the mechanism closest to the to-be constructed building.
14. Nope. No pushing magma through the impassable tile. (At least I have never had it happen to me.)

I played a human adventurer - one that just loved goblins. But as she arrived at a goblin tower (I forgot the name) attacks commenced. Three GCS were actually attacking the tower. (Two of them out of my sight. So my adventurer first stayed at a distance, when a goblin spear(wo)man was attacked by one of them. In some crazy bloodlust I charged the beast, while it tore off the goblin's bodyparts. I got two or three blows in, when it decided to be finished with it's pray (whom later bled to death, surrounded by her own limbs), and to charge me. I naturally ran away, but she caught me up in her webs.

In a desperate attempt to save my life I picked up a pebble and threw it at the spider.

The spinning .... pebble hits the GCS in the abdomen.
The abdomen explodes into gore.
The GCS has been struck down!

How lucky is that?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I modded my GCS's to size 20.

X: Wall
D: Depot
F: Floodgate
H: Hatch Cover.

Just build this room, link the floodgates to a lever, and each of the hatch cover to different levers as well.

Then connect one of the Hatch covers to some form of drain (a big empty room, a chasm, an aquifer) and the other to a pressurized water source.

Optionally you could try and replace the drainage with a pump so that you can use the same water over and over again.

I've been wanting to try this for a long time, and I'm sure that this drowning depot would work. Atleast it'd work for pissing off your hippy buddies, there.

I have embarked on a (multi-embark-screen) island, and not had any troubles getting migrants or dwarven caravans. However, no other civs came. The fortress died due to Peaceful. ;)

If you embark on an 'unreachable' area, you will not get outside activity, except for that of your own civilization. For this reason the other civilizations didn't visit you.
