DF Suggestions / [Construction] Tiered Building Construction & Templates
« on: October 31, 2013, 10:48:46 pm »
Find building multi-storied buildings tedious and annoying? Wish you could just save a room and be able to just copy & paste it? Then I've got the suggestions for you!

For the first suggestion, you can have it so that buildings are constructed part by part if you so desire. I'm talking about telling your dwarves to build the walls, then the scaffold, and then finally the roof & floor to your house, in that order. You just simply construct the first part of what your building; The walls of the house, basic structure of a grand bridge, or even the first floor of a tower; and then press a hotkey to start laying out what to do next. I think this would make creating superstructures less annoying, and would be a nice addition to basic construction.

Now, to the second part of my suggestion: A template system that you can use to copy a building/room/whatever, and then either use it, or save for later times. You could have it so that specific materials are used for whenever you order the template constructed, or set it to use whatever materials related to what you used before be utilized. But it isn't just for you: The template can be saved to a text file and shared on the forums! Need a basic keep for the surface of your fortress? Maybe someone else made one!

Feel free to leave any criticisms/mini-suggestions/commentary.

"...I DID WHAT?!"
MAJOR: GET THAT GOOGLE DRIVE DELETED.
Inconsequential: Verbally berate yourself as you do both of the first major actions. You are not doing something that unbelievably stupid again.
MAJOR: Hack into Google's database, after bouncing my signal plenty of times, and after taking all precautions possible, and make sure it is deleted. Delete it if it isn't already.
Major: Attempt to recruit a homeless person as a Subject peacefully, and if that doesn't succeed, take them by force.

Yes, 2 parts Red Phosphorus added to the Gold Drake Formula, but I was hoping to just add it to the original formula, not make a new one.

((As long as the game keeps going, I don't mind.))

Subturn: Red Phosphorus. Less likely to blow up in my face. :P

Major: If Phosphorus arrives today, add 2 parts to Gold Drake Formula, otherwise attempt to kidnap a Hobo.
Major: Mix another 5-part Formula: 3 parts Neptunium, 1 part Newt, 1 part Uranium Nitride. Dub "Azul."
Major: Look around my lab and see if I can't find ways to make it even more secure.
Inconsequential: Submit a request for one refrigerator be added to my lab, as well as some canned food.

"...I'll be... In my office then... Do we have any Phosphorus?"
Major: Mix together a Three part formula: Two parts Serpent, one part gold. Dub it "Gold Drake Forumla"
Major: Try and lay claim to a lab that can be deemed easily secured and that also has access to equipment needed to create and test formulae.
Minor: Go to the town and have a quick look around, see if I can't find places where I can commonly find poverty-stricken congregation areas.
Minor: Once I return, request that a shipment of Phosphorus, both White and Red be delivered to the lab.

OOC: Sorry for the wait. I just returned from school and when I was just about to compose a post, I was told that I was having dinner and a movie at my mom's boyfriend's house. Did I mention that Pacific Rim is a good movie?

Today I figured out what notes I should play when I try to do this song on guitar. Now all I need to do is practice so that I can play it without any errors!

It was a dark and gloomy night, and Akhari the Khajiit mage was told to go and, quote: "Delve into a dangerous ruin, and find this tablet-no doubt incurred in the main chamber. Simplicity itself." It would have been simple, had there not have been platoons upon platoons of deadly draugr hidden away, which were actually resistant to my Fire-Arrows and Flamesparks, and were able to take me out in at least 3 hits. There were even some Thuum-trained draugr hidden in the tombs with the grunts!
I managed to, after eleven tries, to crawl into the Hall of Stories. I open the gate, and there is a gigantic army. I was quickly slain. Nethertheless...I had had enough. Restarting my save, I had meticulously grabbed /all/ of the draugr corpses, Bandits, and one Arvel the Swift into one gigantic corpsepile, and opened the gate. I waited 24 hours...and then took a quick look at my spells. When I began my adventure, I decided to take the "Ritual" stone, which allows me to raise any corpses in my immediate area. The corpses in question? The corpsepile I had just created!
I charged in, with my new brigade of Draugr warriors, archers, magic-casters and Draugr Thuum-users. The fight was gigantic. Armies against armies, in one gigantic chamber, all for that little cat with a spark of flame in her hands to slip by and snag a single stone tablet. Suddenly, a nearby coffin erupted it's top, and out popped a Draugr deathlord! With what little army I still had, we hacked at it to pieces, me quickly hopping out of the action once I had 1/8th of my health. The Draugr have been defeated! With glee, I took the stone, bowed to my army as they all shuddered and dropped dead, and skipped out of there before another Draugr could catch me.

Farengar, when I find you, we are going to have a nice, long talk.

Okay actual spoiler from GTA:O, this is from the cutscene that introduces Passive mode.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

what's passive mode?

You cannot be shot at, but you cannot shoot at anyone else.

Unfortunately, it doesn't protect against cars, as I've discovered numerous times.
