I want all of that and some.

For the specialized wood burning furnace what about creating some finished good it demands to be constructed at the forge ("cast wood furnace" for instance) so it has a cost to cover for its better efficiency than the normal furnace.
Another thing would be also adding such an extra step for the crucible and blast furnace ("furnace parts" or "crucible parts")

Of course we are thinking in parameters of 40d. Currently in 31.03 gold weapons seem to pack the biggest punch for swords, lead for warhammers and adamantine only works properly for spears. Steel should be buffed up somehow (in accordance to how the combat system will eventually get balanced out) to compensate for its greater complexity of production.

Maybe let it be pulled by captured gobbos, and if they slow down too much, the magma steam engines are turned on and the back rows are crushed one by one untill they realize they should go faster.

i am *pro* filth, but i think zangi has a good point, he just failed to explain it as sensibly and diplomatically as Deathworks and Kilo24. still, i trust that toady and three toe will be able to keep the forums shit-joke free, and seeing that more than half of the forums find these jokes distastefull*, i think the ones that find these funny will be discouraged enough from posting  their exploits here


(*acording to the poll, half of the forum really has a problem with this, and acording to this thread, atleast a few, but probably more than just a few of the people who voted yes also arent really interested in shit jokes)

Exactally. People act as if this forum was completely unmoderated. A little moderation pressure early on against excessive or distasteful shit jokes could curb the apocalypse that the rapture of sewage might lead the forums to, according to some prophets.

You can make water outlets anywhere*. Dig up to the map's corner, then smooth the stone there, and then tell your dorfs to carve fortifications.

You could turn off the inlet when the lake reaches high tide to save up on FPS, and then flush it down when it is time for low tide.

*layers that spawn water on their corners such as lake maps, underground caverns with lakes and such can lead to fun™

If your brain is tired 'normally', then 'normally' you aren't using it much.

You sound pretty dam bored.

I'd say it's the opposite of this.  The most tired and exhausted I felt was during the final push of my thesis during college, back in 2007.  I study C++ during a lot of my free time, but I always make sure to just have relaxation time.  I wish there were more hours in the day so I could do everything I want.  But I'd also wish to have more energy during that time.

Djohaal, as for sleep apnea, is it possible or common for a young, in shape male to have that?  Also, what specific food would you recommend for magnesium?

For magnesium you can buy these supplement thingys with magnesium chloride. They taste a bit bad but you can mix on the juice and side-effect wize they are pretty much innocuous in adequate ammounts.
For sleep apnea, do you snore a lot when you sleep?
And as I said in my post, bucal breathing can be as harmful to one's sleep as apnea. A good way to know that is if you feel thirsty during the night. I always sleep with a 750 ml bottle of water on my bedside, and most often I finish it every night because I sleep with my mouth open and drying.

Regardless of how well it'd work, you might want to save turning it on until towards the end of the fort. Your FPS will definitely go in the gutter, especially after carving out the cavern itself.

Actually I wonder how much of this FPS drop due to cavern digging holds true in DF 2010 seeing as we already have large expansive natural caverns. I wonder if toady bothered optimizing the pathfinding and yadda a little.

I recall seeing that we can order mechanisms on the forge in this version. So yeah. Iron mechanisms.

Edit: Not only I recall, but i just checked. Forges now have the "construct mechanisms" command under trap components (checked for iron). The reaction was completed too, I didn't get my smith crying for rock bars.
