I just learned recently, that you can cage FBs and clowns.
It won't help me anyway, since I never really had any GCS.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: repopulation/rebuilding

Once world gen starts, all populations will stop making wars, fights, plundering, and they even stop breeding and getting older (Yes that child is 30 years old).
So after several year playing, all dwarves and humans are doomed to die of old age.
And all goblins and elves you kill, will never get a replacement.
Which isn't really a shame anyway.

It will be dead forever.

Each world and civilization and population will stop doing anything when you stop world generation.

You melt in the (magma) rain.

Also, the magma drains of the edges, it would take VERY long and eat your fps.

Recently, i was playing the regular Dwarf Fortress mode, and made a small city, with 74 occupants. Recently, about 10 of them turned psycho and killed literally everyone then died of miasma.
Just saying, you can't die of miasma.
Except they died at the hands of dorfs who were enranged at the miasma, but thats unlikely.

Can you assign him jobs and the like, like your normal dark elves?

If so, make him your main noble.
Since he is an gremlin he/she likes to pull levers.

Hm, maybe your dark elves took him as a slave during worldgen or something?
It would be awesome though....

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The most painful deaths ever
« on: August 24, 2010, 05:04:50 am »
Well, I had once some fun with modding.
And then striped every body part from a yeti.
He was then arranged on a nice 7*7 flatland.
That MUST have been a painful death, slowly loosing all toes, fingers, legs, ears, the nose, the teeth, the arms, and legs.
And then his head.

Hm, nickel is magma safe, and can be bought at embark.
For the next embark, I better add firesafeness to dorfs, too :D

The cages were made of copper (bought at embark), the mechanics for the cage traps were made by the stones I found everywhere.

Oh yeah, I tested if dragonfire makes enemies go into cage traps.

I just found out that fire removes cage traps :D

I haven't encountered a GCS in 31.0x, but in 40d, they needed to be able to path to their target before they'd fire. This was generally accomplished with a pet-impassable door. In your diagram, the pet-impassable door would replace a fortification.

I know the pet-impassable door made GCS farms of this type work in 40d, so you can try them in 31.0x.

Is the web throwing rule the same for dragonfire or imp firebreath? If so then in theory the dragonfire pillbox should work :p

Maybe it's the same as with dorfs. If a beast decides to jump away as evasion of incoming attack, it can end up in a trap, or it can be pushed/bounced etc. Might work with dragon in fortification cage spitting fire at FBs standing over traps too?

I can test that now, if you want.

For now, the results of my tests are:
1:Dragonfire/fiends of flame remove/melt cage traps and according cages.
2:Dragons are a good defense against HFS, when your dwarves are not standing in their way. Mine did.
3:Even dragons are not invulnerable to poisonous blood.
4:Not caught demons due to disappearing of the cage traps.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Funniest Names
« on: August 23, 2010, 04:01:53 pm »
"Petalbust the Crotch of Dripping". No implication of whether that's good or bad dripping, but it's a hell of a name for a girl.

Best name ever.
Such names are earned by fighting, right? I'd imagine it's either a bad kind of dripping, or she's "wrestled" a lot of tentacle demons.... which would still be a rather bad kind of dripping. Ew.
I didn't knew dwarves were that asian orientated.
