DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Wooden spikes. Are they really worth it?
« on: October 29, 2010, 03:01:19 pm »
I guess they are acutally very useful in tiring out your enemies.
Goblins that collapsed from overexhaustion don't fight back.

I also moded once a trap weapon that attacked its target 35 times, each attack glanced away even at skin, but most attacks will make the creature dodge away, even when a previous dodged attack made the creature leave the trap.
I once "teledodged" while testing it in adventure mode in a wolf group, collapsed from overexaustion and died.
While cladded in steel armor.

So, 7 traps in line with wooden spiked balls won't kill any intruder (maybe unarmored ones) but the dwarves stationed after the line of traps will happily kill all unconcious goblins.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: You most awesome near-fun recovery?
« on: October 29, 2010, 01:29:12 pm »
Holy shit that is an epic story!

I never had a near Fun story, as everytime 1/5 of my dorfs die, the abadon button catches them all.

(Argh the spelling ARGH)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Is this supposed to happen?

What the hell are all those "à"s and "ô"s in that picture?

And yes, normally shouldn't that happen, but this is DF so it does.

Those creatures need to be in DF
Yes.

Why in the hell has every men in that picture tits?

From 140 to 40?
Now THAT was a party!

Oh yeah, and it happens that no immigrants come, but when they come because too many dorfs in your forts died, it has a other message.
Something like: "Nobody wants to go to this death hole" or something.

I've had a ton of artefact weapons from bone to other materials and I'd say artefacts are worthless compared to an adamantine axe in good hands.
Of course nothing beats an artefact adamantine axe.
A good aimed bolt/arrow/fireball, tantrum spiral,"unfotunate accidents, magma traps, magma baths, and the abadon button, there is pretty much that beats a artifact adamantine axe.

I had a vulture standing up in midair. With one wing.
Yeah crazy shit happens.
I used that vulture later to kill elves.

DF Modding / Re: Plant pet defensive turret

Maybe you could try to make it almost stationary by using ridiculously high [SPEED:x] tags, meaning it would move very slow. Now imagine a web-spitting plant-like creature with steel sword leaves, slowly pulling its roots out of the earth and crawling towards its helpless victim...

Then it would also attack very slowly.
But actually, that is exactly that what it is now, a plant like creature (with its own plant muscles ;) ) with steel sword arm things, that first spits webs at its enemy and then procedes to slowly move towards it with its nine root feet things :D

For now it also either slices or stabs with its sword thingies.
I have let it fought against three unarmed/unarmored trolls, and I am sure it WILL eventually win this battle, but it only pushes when its sword things are broken.

Also, here are the raws:

The vicious Webber was once a carnivore plant, but then domesticated by the dwarves to use it as a vicious fortress guard, to reduce the amount of work for the dwarves themselves.
In a fight, the Webber will shoot webs at its enemies, and then proceeds to slice and stab them into tiny bits.
It has a a petvalue of 350, slightly more then the average cow, costing at embark 176 points, which is maybe not enough.
It also catches fire when other creatures start to melt, so better keep them away from your lava, or just your booze when you are evil.

If you don't want it to move anyway can't you just restrain it? It essentially amounts to the same thing the creature could only move in a 3x3 box (well 3x3x3 cube if you want to be pedantic).
Yeah, but that wouldn't be the same as an immoveable plant with steel sharp sword claws that spits webs at you.

Thank you for the tissue layer :D

I also modified
[ATTACK_VELOCITY_MODIFIER:200]
[ATTACK_CONTACT_PERC:100]
[ATTACK_PENETRATION_PERC:1000]

to the short sword points.

Now they show to be really effective against goblins in iron armor (without weapons for now), killing one in two blows (if you don't count the webbing which occured after the goblin rushed at the vicious plant thing).

Well I tried on a bit of modding, cause I wanted to make a cheap way of web spitting creatures, so I came up on the idea of a unmoveable plant, with swords instead of arms, that also spit webs.

So these are the raws for that:

So yeah, but now I have some problems.
The plants shoot webs fine, attack with their sword arms just fine, but I don't know how to increase the strength of those sword arms, a plant with swords made of steal should be pretty cool.
Also, they can move.
I don't want that :(
I tested everything with the [IMMOBILE_LAND] tag, but without [AQUATIC] it still moves and also drows on land, but [NOBREATHE] makes it moveable again.

Any ideas :(

Oddom Kodudil, Stray Kitten (Tame) has adopted Obok Asteshoshosh, Herbalist. Yes thats right, my cat adopted the herbalist, not the other way around.
Thats is pretty normal.
All cats adopt dwarves.
You are new aren't you?

As far as I know, all FBs are magmasafe and amphibic.
So, all drowning(water)/smelting (lava) traps are going to fail.
Not sure about the magmasafe though, and encasing works always, just keep in mind to make a really epic stature of of your obsidified monster.

DF General Discussion / Re: The final version of DF.
« on: October 21, 2010, 05:09:58 am »
Don't you get it? The final version of Dwarf Fortress has been completed. You're living in it. Its just so seamless and perfect that you are convinced it is the "real world".

Toady is God, and has given us an old version of his universe to play with.

IT MAKES SENSE NOW!

I agree. And it has versions of itself in it!
We see dorfs on our screen, seeing dorfs on their screen, seeing dorfs on their screen, seeing dorfs on their screen, seeing dorfs on their screen, seeing dorfs on their screen, seeing dorfs on their screen, seeing dorfs on their screen, seeing dorfs on their screen, seeing dorfs on their screen, [...],seeing dorfs on their screen,  getting raped by carp.

i missed a few posts of people telling what i said >_>  but, i was sick of the suggestions to build weapon/cage traps or pressure plates.  I think i am part of the department of redundancy department.

They do work if the FBs are webbed.
WHY IS EVERYONE IGNORING THAT FACT!
