Ah, good old windows update fuckery. When you're forced to install an update and you just know it's going to fuck something up.

And then your sound isn't working for no discernible reason :I

Edit:

Aaand it seems only reverting this shitting thing to a previous version would fix it. Also it seems that the update made it so you couldn't get rid of Edge, so that's an extra bonus reason for reverting.

Can't wait for the system to start shitting itself and screaming that I HAVE TO UPDATE NOW!!!1!1!! again tho :I

Between the Buried and Me - Sun of Nothing

Entire album is a wonderful cacophony of weird styles and genres violently mashed with fairly aggressive metal that fits my current mood fairly well. This song in particular hits the sweet spot I think.

183
I think what was meant as a fluke was the game succeeding like it did, especially when it was based on a setting they pretty much took a hatchet to a few years prior.

Their data suggested that WHFB was dead and the games selling like hotcakes did nothing to change their minds, or rather, since they'd burned the setting and salted the earth for good measure, the PC game couldn't really bring new people into the hobby as they'd come in looking for a version of they just played and find shit like sigmarines waiting for them.

Except now the spark has made the lengthy journey from their ass to their brains and they're trying to resurrect the setting in some form. Not sure how well it'll work out for them since people like to get burned only so many times (and seeing their current actions is not going to make anyone give them the benefit of the doubt anymore imo)

184
They saw the mad money streaming services are making and wanted in on the action. Trouble is, they never really made anything that even approached the quality levels of most fan-stuff. So what they did is introduce a zero tolerance policy for animation to stop any and all fan-stuff from competing with what they put on their service.

Makes sense from a business side of things, eliminate competition, ensure a monopoly. Except it's also a monumentally idiotic move in that it kills the majority of fan-made stuff, which, if you have any sort of common sense means that you just killed most of your organic growth, made enemies of most of your hardcore fans and squandered any goodwill you might've made over the years. And even if they walk it all back (which is doubtful) people will still not trust them because that bridge has been fucked and burned well into the ground.

I kinda drifted off of 40k over the years (mostly due to lack of decent games in the setting) and the only thing that's still kinda keeping my interest is TW:WH, but shit like this just makes sure there's no chance of getting back into it.

Random YT recommendation strikes again. Some super nice and breezy tracks on this one.

You guys don't have the special/irregular style of uni classes?
Basically it's a take your time type of deal where you get a limited number of classes per semester and no mandatory attendance so you basically take things at your own pace. Essentially designed for folks who had to find a full time job or decided to go back to uni later in life and don't necessarily have the free time required for a full course.

My mom basically did this for her MD while working full time, took her a couple of years but she got there eventually.

Where Ebay games come from

It's equal parts terrifying and puzzling, I want to know the history of that place now, what the hell happened, what's the state of it today, who took the time to map it all out like they did, why?

So a while back I ordered 4 books from bookdepository, fairly good site for that sort of thing, especially since we have like, 1 proper bookstore in town, and it has shit I don't care for.
Anyways, because of the way they work, the books don't get shipped together necessarily, but whenever they're available. In this case, 2 books got shipped, then the other 2 a few days later. When they arrived, they were all kinda bound together with plastic tape so they're easier to ship or something. But there was only 3 books there :V

This is kinda similar to a situation last year where I ordered 2 graphic novel things (first two books from the Sandman series), and they shipped together, but only the second one ever arrived :V

Generally, they're good with refunding for shit like this, but it's really fucking strange that the most unreliable online retailer to date is a book store based in the UK (and in general, I've lost more things shipped from the UK than from any other country so far), and these books are packed nicely, you can't really tell what they are unless you tear open the little shipping box thing. So who the hell is stealing/misplacing my goddamn books >:V

Sure, I guess? Some semblance of balance still needs to be present if you want any sort of longevity, even if it is singleplayer only, saying just don't use him is a bit silly since he's the bloody faction leader, not playing him the way he's been designed to be played is gimping yourself intentionally because the devs were too lazy to balance things properly. The old Beastmen were too weak, and I get wanting to buff them but I think they overshot a touch.

Because it's not just Malagor, tho he's the most glaring example, any bray shaman with the beast lore can do almost as much horrible things to any infantry heavy army. I'm not sure if traitor-kin was this stupid before but it's essentially a flock of doom except better.
No idea if you can view the actual numbers for both skills anywhere, but from what I've seen in combat, flock of doom has a high chance of affecting the target but it deals fairly low damage over a short period of time, so you generally need at least 3 casts on a healthy unit to see any models going down, even if the entire unit is stuck at a third of their max hp. Traitor-kin on the other hand seems to do stupid high damage but has a lower chance of actually hitting, I've seen it start racking up kills on the first cast, and this was fairly significant numbers of dead units, only to see it fall off as their numbers got reduced.

And as nenjin pointed out above, it's not just that he's bonkers strong, the big part of the issue is that unlike cheese and doomstacks other races get, Malagor gets to roll over shit after a few turns only since you only really need to upgrade flock of doom itself and then rush the first cost reduction skill.

Anyways, despite the several issues that've popped up on further analysis I still think this is by far some of the best stuff they've done to date, partly because almost none of their previous attempts (movie or otherwise) have left me with so many questions and a pretty strong desire to figure out the answers.

So Malagor is kinda stupid now :V

Even early game, he's capable of making the t1 shitty spell Flock of Doom into a monster of a siege spell, my most recent siege was of Karak Eight Peaks, some 3500 orks versus my 1700 beasty boys, tho, most of those were irrelevant as Malagor, on his own managed to do some 120k damage and kill around 1200 orks. It took a while, but boy when that grinder starts going, it really goes to town.

Plus, I'm not sure if there's a targeting bug going on or there was some weird unit placement fuckery going on, but multiple times the spell went off on units that were clearly outside of the AoE that I placed down.

And this is before I've gotten the bastard leveled up enough to grab some of the really broken stuff that makes his spells even cheaper.

That said, I fear he might have the opposite problem from before, that he's so stupid strong it makes the campaign a touch too easy and boring. This might just be because orks aren't exactly the strongest counters to beastmen and folks like the Empire or HE might prove more difficult, so we'll see.

Relic didn't die tho :V

They're part of Sega now, and besides this they've been working on Age of Empires 4. No idea how many of the original folks are left working there, but the first impression of this isn't looking nearly as bad as DoW3 was.

Posted in the WTF thread but I guess it's more appropriate here.

Company of Heroes 3 is a thing, takes place on the Italian front by the looks of it. Singleplayer seems to have a sort of strategic map that you move stuff around , not sure how that'll work out in the end. RTS gameplay seems pretty much the same as before, except there's a tactical pause now, doesn't really affect me much but it's a neat addition.

No idea when it properly releases, but the pre-alpha they put out looked like a pretty comprehensive vertical slice.

Apparently Company of Heroes 3 is a thing, just out of the blue they kicked out a pre-alpha thing that a bunch of folks streamed. Looks pretty good for a pre-alpha.
