I think I remember a Goblin master thief straight-up decapitating one of my dwarfs when he was discovered before running off.

I think some of the confusion is coming from what pacifism means. Some people ,myself included, are taking the Paladin route as opposed to the Karate Monk. Bottom line is it cool to kill monsters? Not really pacifism according to OP's post. That's just what most people in DF do anyway. Taking quests to kill monsters who knock over fences and whatnot.
Can vampires get tantrums? I think I read somewhere they are permanently happy. Then you'd need to keep coffins ready, but with a fortress of vampires you wouldn't really need to worry about needing more coffins than the maximum number of dwarfs in the fortress at any one time. They also don't need to eat or drink, but at some point they'll all become really slow from lack of alcohol.
Anyway, to protect against failed moods, can't you put your craft dwarf shops behind long weapon-trap protected corridors?
Just like in real life!Well, you can still go about your merry way, trying to bring about the Age of Emptiness.
Put walls at the corners in the path of the cart. They'll turn instead of derailing.
I thought from the thread title that this would be similar to the "frozen in time" state that falling creatures could get from a rare bug. I actually can't tell if the OP is just humor, or if there is an actual discovery in there. Could someone please enlighten me?
