General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

It does seem kind of short-sighted to blow off an interview with a "lesser" employer, as sometimes one ends up needing that "lesser" employer down the road.

I think general curtesy and common sense died in the fires of the Pandemic.

Also: 10+ years in a field doesn't make someone good, just experienced. Could be 10+ years of sucking.

"Hey, I have 10 years of experience!"
"How many jobs have you had?"
"Five"

It's not always bad. Some people legitimately do focus on their career to the point they move jobs every few years to either upgrade or escape dead end prospects. And they pick up skills from each along the way.

But yeah. It's an entry-level position and I have people that have managed teams of 8+ people at fairly big names in town, for years, applying. And then you agree to interview someone basically green and they don't even show up. 'tis a strange world out there.

This is my first go of actually doing hiring so it's all still fairly new to me. So that's why I'm still kind of shocked by a few things. This ain't Burger King so I expected a bit less flakiness for a tech position.

My boss just went in for an MRI and they discovered a metal sliver in his thumb even he didn't know about. One would think that stuff would come up on an xray.

Yeah, when I've only gotten a response from 1% of the applications I put out, I don't exactly feel bad blowing off the hr department of the lesser offer when I do get two in a row and the better one is almost a guarantee.. What goes around comes around, you know?

Nah.

If you've reached the point where you've accepted an interview, then a professional lets people know what they're doing. Full stop.

An immature, self-serving asshole doesn't. I don't care how "bad" the job market is, or how "bad" you've been treated. Using the fact the world is shitty to act shitty is a "You" problem.

Discipline is what you do when no one is watching. And if your "guaranteed" one doesn't come through, you've just burned the bridge at your fall back. Unless they're so desperate to accept that kind of behavior, in which case, you're getting what you deserve.

I guess I shouldn't complain. People that do that did the me the favor of telegraphing how flakey they are, rather than faking their way into a position before demonstrating how much they suck.

If you accept the invite, show up for it or send a message that you changed your mind. I wouldn't hire anyone that didn't have that basic level of professionalism at heart. If they never accepted the interview, fine. But when we set aside an hour to talk to you and you don't show up, you look like a piece of shit in my eyes.

We're doing hiring at work.

Out of 5 potential interviews so far, only one person has bothered to show up.

I must be old because this really surprises me. I never blew off interviews back in the day. And these are people with 10+ years of experience in some places. All I hear about is how it's hard to find a good job but frankly, if you apply and then don't even show up for the interview or respond to scheduling, the problem ain't the job market motherfuckers, it's YOU.

Playing Super Metroid when it came out was a highlight of my childhood gaming experiences.

My hands still remember the pain of trying to get the wall jump to work consistently. My brother was great at it. Me, not so much.

I reflex clicked the forum link and had to do a double take. It's nice to be back!

Not saying I have an issue with them. I'm used to weird From Soft designs. I had more than one "WTF is that" reaction to the trailer though.

It loads for me.

Can't wait for you to blame Biden for your image not loading, and how images were served better under Trump.

Donald "I refitted my apartments with thousand of dollars of roof top air conditioners that I never bought or installed" Trump.

His dad pulled the same shit.

Is it just me or are these enemy designs pretty over the top even for From Soft?

EDIT: X now says the suspension was an error of the automatic defense system of the platform. The account has been unsuspended.

Getting called in to work in the middle of the night, chugging an energy drink, and then getting a call saying, "Oops, meant to call in the other crew, don't bother coming in."

Man that's some BS.

I've worked since Friday on migrating a business between servers. Hours on, hours off but all spent at my computer. I was sending emails at like 11pm last night. Didn't get to bed until 1. Woke up at 5am to support their east cost workers and spent the next 4 hours sleeping an hour, checking emails. Sleeping an hour, checking emails.

I'm so fucking fried. I need to take some time off this week but there's already more BS coming down the pipe.

At least I'm hourly still. I feel bad for my coworker who is salary and probably put in 20+ hours of overtime this weekend he won't recognize as additional pay.

I'm kind of in the same boat.

I got an ingrown hair on my groin early last year from some manscaping. It formed a thing that was quite large and after a couple months I became alarmed. (I never found the hair to pluck out, either.)

I went to my doc thinking I needed him to lance it for me. Instead, he just said use warm compresses and it would "resolve itself."

Well, it didn't. Despite reducing in size and draining, it remained a lump on my groin for the next 9 months.

And guess what, it started swelling again. So I made another doctor's appointment thinking that I needed him to do what he was reluctant to do.

But I started applying warm compresses again more regularly and more aggressively, and it looks like it's drained out better. It's not completely gone, but it's the most gone it's been since it started.

So I get going into the doctor, looking for help and advice, getting "I'm not going to do anything" and getting charged several hundred dollars for the privilege.

I'm going to keep my appointment despite the fact it's being resolved for exactly this reason: I want advice and surety that I don't need antibiotics or something to counter a possible infection or abscess forming. It's so frustrating though to have to wait weeks to see someone, and pay hundreds of dollars, to have them spend less than 10 minutes with you.

So while I'm sure doctors hate "defensive patients" that defensiveness comes directly from the impression that they don't give a shit, and that you're just a product to them.

Huh. Stewart is back with the Daily Show?

Because it's believed this is once again the most important election ever, they're bringing back the big guns. So he'll probably be hosting again for the next year to do election coverage.
