In  case I forgot to mention it, awesome story, yes.
Also, did I miss something with this "jack" character? Or is he new to the plot?

I wondered why Legolas didn't eat all those yummy dead goblins and Orcs in LOTR, and why the fuck Gimli didn't just activate the magma pumps on those Uruk-Hai.

LOTR elves have [EAT_JUNK_FOOD:UNTHINKABLE]. Pippin actually did pull Moria's doomsday lever, but it woke up the Balrog instead of getting rid of the goblins.

No, you've got it all wrong. Gimmli threatened to open the magma pumps at treebeard if legolas ate them, and releasing the Spirits-o-FUN was the doomsday device. The error was that they depicted the Hidden Chamber of Fun as only holding one spirit. And the fact that it was killed by a human. Seriously, I mean... Gandalf didn't even have an axe, and he was Adequate Swordsman at most. Besides, the [IGNITE_POINT] on the clothes, staff, and skin would have rendered him a !!Grey Wizard!! long before he could fall down the chasm, much less climb the endless staircase. And chasm creatures (Skeletal Giant Cave Swallows, anyone?) would have finished off the fellowship post-haste.

According to so-called "human science," too much booze can kill you. But we all know that human science is a load of hooey anyways.

OK. I'd rather have him be Mac's copilot/combat buddy, but if you'd rather have more pilots, He'd be more than happy. Just don't let him tinker with anything...

I cancel my earlier suggestion.

Thopmson in left hand and Babe in right, slowly march towards them while spraying bullets and in a calm manner singing the Star Spangled Banner.Them as they close in switch to a totaly badass slow-mo scene (while the song goes into the background) where you pummel the bastards into bloody pulps with Babe

Replace "sing the star-spangled banner" with "saying the pledge of allegiance," and have the song come in right with the slow-mo, and do this.

I'll be Mac's backup man.

Name: Lucsly
Kit: Laser Rifle, Medkit, and whatever else generic stuff he needs.

Backstory: Despite being the best damn pilot this side of the Rio Grande, he flunked out of the USAF pilot academy when it was discovered that he was making unauthorized modifications to the aircraft. Upgrades, really. Or so they thought, until one of the "upgraded" birds burst into flames at 10,000 feet... (It was an accident. Really.) Leaving the Airmen's Corps, and joining the paratroopers, Lucsly became a half-decent shot with a conventional rifle. The opportunity to join X-com arose when he saw the battle for LA while visiting family. Thankfully, they all escaped unharmed, but the opportunity to strike back at the... whatever the hell they were... was too great to pass up.

I don't really want a city, but I want to keep watching this.
Best of luck to the lot of ye, though.

I have once invaded a goblin tower, with the expectation of slaughtering all the evil gobbos, only to find it filled with DWARVES! nothing but DWARVES!! DWARVES, I SAY, DWARVES!!! Literally, not a single goblin in sight. All the dwarves had goblin names, though.

So I leave that one, to try my luck elsewhere. I find a tower where legends (read: one of the dwarves in the last tower) say there is a goblin. He was their leader. I fight my way through hordes of zerging soapmakers, scaling the temple, to find... pretty much that civ's last goblin. I wonder if their dwarven thralls would siege me if I started a fortress in the area...

Can't join in the FUN, sadly, but I will be watching this contest. The sheer dwarvenliness of it means guaranteed awesomeness.
