Bay 12 Games Forum

I just genned my first world. It stopped at 1050 and is still in the age of myths. I looked in legends and saw a creature who was described as "a humanoid made of vomit". This is going to be so awesome. Also, my miner is wearing an "elk bird leather robe". 

I tried this once. In legends there was a war between dragons and cockroaches. Cockroaches won. 

Other things to try: Alt walking out of the sides fo the pool, walking back and forth for a while and trying to travel, sleeping and traveling when you wake up.

I had been looking around for sandbox type games for a few days. I was on the URW forum and there were some people talking about boatmurdered. (There were also people talking about DF, but I didn't take notice. I was under the impression it was some kind of fantasy-themed action game.) I had remembered hearing people talk about boatmurdered before, and I felt kind of left out that I didn't know what it was. So I googled it.
I sat and read the entire thing, almost couldn't drag myself off the computer to go to bed. The next morning I downloaded DF.

Though it was the first ASCII game I had ever seen,(Never even heard of it before) it didn't scare me off. The opposite, I embarked immediately and called out to my family to come see this game I was playing.  (They thought I was hacking the computer for a while.  ) I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I had no idea how to play, but I gave my dwarves a few random commands. Then I realized that dwarves had personalities, likes and dislikes. I think I sat at the computer for 5 or 6 hours that night.

I love pocket worlds.  One time I tried to extinct every race alive. Didn't work out so well, but it was fun.

My brother requested a picture of what would happen If dwarves invented flamethrowers, so I drew one. (Also, I believe I was the 10,000th person to view this thread.)
EDIT: Err, I just realized this was the "Flaming pretzel gun" picture, not the flamethrower... Whoops.

I like gabbro and kimberlite. Gabbro has a nice name and nice neutral gray color and kimberlite is my favorite color.

I think pretty much anything that decreased the difficulty is cheating. However, I don't have any problems with cheating, as long as you don't use it to get ahead in a competition or something. Making the game super easy's no fun IMO, but whatever floats your boat I guess.
