Other Games / Re: How did you last die?

Santa Claus, as the ultimate gift, gave the entire crew magic equipment and guns. I got a L6 SAW, C20-r, wand of resurrection (one use), and a wand of make door (twenty uses). I was the MD. While I was running around putting people out because people were spamming fireballs, someone randomly gunned me down with a L6 SAW. My buddy the RD shot me with a staff of healing, though, which brought me back to life. There was also a convenient staff of healing right next to my body, so I became the magically-powered supermedic for the rest of the round.

I was walking (read: dragging my feet in a mega-slow limp) to medbay, when I fall flat on my face in critical. The mime steals my robes and hood, then drags me to medbay. The head of security fixes me up with ointment and asks what happened, then throws me out after I answer. I promptly fall on my face because the cryo sting is still in effect. The head of personnel drags me in and fills me with inaprovaline and puts me in a sleeper, despite still dying from the burn damage. I die in the sleeper and get taken to genetics, where I re-enter my corpse one second too late and the doctor puts me in the morgue.

Does this server know the glory of ninjas with any frequency?
Ninjas are random events, as random as any other /tg/-model server. (B)admins also sometimes send them in to cause problems or fuel the fires of existing problems.

I do not like traitor borgs, they are a royal pain in the ass.
That's why you bring flashes and the ion rifle.

Pirates already can't build new construction ships unless they board them or build a hidden base + fortress on a colony they fully control. Taking off all the construction yards only prevents you from building new escorts/frigates/freighters/etc., which would make for a hell of an uphill battle. You won't even be able to repair battle damage.

Aside from that, though, it should be totally possible. You can board ships for everything you need and take over mining stations for resources. Money could be made by raiding colonies and smuggling jobs, though you would need either a lot of raids or a small active fleet to keep up with maintenance costs. Smuggling is a more stable source of income.

Currently furiously refactoring AI module code...

Maybe once I've hammered all the bugs out.

(Seriously jezus christ so much copypasta)
Sweet, some differences in the AI laws from time to time. TYRANT should be an option, IMO, but there's probably some reason why it needs illegal tech to be made and isn't placed on any of the maps.

Bumping this, since I recently bought this game and all the expansions and I'm having lots of fun.

I started in a spiral galaxy, right on the edge before the circle of gas clouds starts. Pirates are brutal. My empire, the Sol Alignment, a feudal human empire, was kicked around by multiple pirate factions for years while I slowly researched and built up my fleet. One band, Black Minerals, was particularly skilled. A smuggling group, they frequently raided my mining stations and my new colonies, quickly hoarding wealth and minerals. They used all of this to build a large space port in place of their dinky little hideout and started mass-producing warships, continuing to raid my colonies and one of my neighbor's.

With the help of recovered abandoned capital ships, I managed to fight off these raids and buy the time needed to research drone tech and some improved weapons, building my fleet as I went. I put together a retaliation fleet of ten escorts(armed with a mix of torpedos and railguns), fifteen frigates/destroyers (railguns/maxos blasters), a few cruisers (railguns/assault pods), and three carriers (railguns/five drone bays each). Using this fleet, I warped into their hideout and turned the space port to dust. Black Minerals immediately set up a new hideout in a system I discovered instantly thanks to my advisors suggesting a mercenary strike team, which I also reduced to dust. After that, Black Minerals surrendered and what surviving equipment they had joined my empire (read: a bunch of freighters turned over to the private sector and some mining stations).

Despite this victory, I'm still in a pretty shitty situation. My empire is tiny, holding four colonized planets, and nearly every empire has better tech than I do. I place either in the middle or at the bottom of every category except strategic value, for whatever reason. I'm also nearly last place in my victory conditions progress. My fleet is 72 strong, and most of those ships are orbiting my colonies fighting off raids from the other pirate bands that keep breaking their fleets over my massively superior recovered capital ships. This game is awesome.

Just something about the AI and the whole law 1 thing, but couldn't the AI just bolt everyone in isolated corridors without any means of escape without breaking the first law? By locking the crew in isolation, the AI would be effectively preventing any harm from coming to any of the humans (seeing as you can't starve to death) and thereby fulfill the first law. Would this result in a job-ban? because to me, it doesn't seem to break any of the AI's laws. Of course a human could threaten to kill themselves with a glass shard if they aren't let out.
You could, but you would be jobbanned for it. That might as well be griefing. Toeing the line, pushing what you can do, as an AI (or any job) will probably get you yelled at/banned by the admins. Admins don't appreciate people flaunting the loopholes they've found.

It's safe to assume Nanotrasen AIs have some "no-brainer" basic directives that cannot be modified, I.E. don't let Joe Average, Assistant into the armory or the engine room for no reason. Some AI players make the game interesting by taking things literally, but there's some things you need to have some common sense when dealing with. Seriously, people. In that vein: being an obtrusive, asshole AI that bolts half the station due to them being "secure areas" will not be appreciated.

Also: EVA has no right to be bolted. That is all.

Parapen+C4 is the absolute worst way to kill anyone. People forget that being an antag is about making the round interesting, not accomplishing your objectives. Someone should only be parapen+C4'd if that C4 is set to 99999 seconds and you need a good distraction for the crew ("HALP EXPLOSIVES STUCK TO ME HAAAAALP"). :P

The key is picking the most innocuous containers to hide stuff in. When I'm traitor HoP I make it standard practice to stash a few all-access fake IDs in places around the station, just in case. Likewise, when I'm HoS (with no/few underlings) and have reason to suspect that someone will make a try for the armory, I'll pack everything away and leave a single lasgun in there as sucker bait.

Crowbar toilet, hide stuff in drum, crowbar closed.
To retrieve click on the open drum with empty hand.
I prefer disposal units. Hiding the armory in the bar's disposal unit is great fun.

You'd be surprised. I've found guns and all-access IDs hidden in random lockers or at the back of maintenance tunnels. Most of them were refuse from traitorous actions, though.
