You should not let anyone less than Legendary+5 at their chosen skill touch it.
You should not sell it to anybody in any form.
You should not use it on danger room spear traps for new recruits.
You should not atom smash it.
You should not designate it for mass dumping into the semi molten rock.
You should not use muddied floor tiles made of it for farms.
You should not use it to make coffins or slabs for pets
You should not leave masterwork items made of it lying unguarded on the surface for kobalds
You should not use bolts made of it for routine training of marksdwarves

Indoor waterfalls, lavish meals, masterwork beds,high quality bridges and doors to generate random happiness  and kitten/puppy execution towers that lead into your meeting place.  enough death of any type will make them "not care about anything".    A featherwood mace armed dabbling macedwarf for a sherrif and gold chains right between your well and your food stockpile issuing "justice" will also help  expecially if they're within the mist area of your waterfalls. Prompt burial when possible and cheesy traps to kill seiges before your military even sees an invader.

When selecting on what to take with me to found a new fortress,  it seems a much more affordable option to take 3 copper and tin bars and to smith my picks and axes myself upon arrival  than to pay a premium for the no quality castoffs you embark with from the mountian home.  Is this generally a worthwhile choice, or does the time you save not having to build a forge instantly worth the extra points?

with a couple of catapults permanently shooting across the bridge to get rid of the excess stone.  :P

since currently elves don't have buildings or defenses, all the combat would be on an open field, so sieging the elves would be less of a siege and more like an ambush or raiding party.  I'm thinking 2 squads of crossbow dwarves, a squad or two of axedwarves, lightly armored or in adamantine for chasing elves down, and 20 war dogs.  After BEFORE the battle, the axedwarves would chop down every tree in sight.

This is a puddingstone amulet,  All craftmanship is of the highest quality,  It menaces with spikes of puddingstone and hanging rings of puddingstone. On it is a image of dwarf and dwarves in puddingstone.  It commerates the drowning of your fort by a magical water producing stone amulet.

I'm not very good with pumps  but i've breached one and two layer aquifers via caveins and have drowned a couple of forts getting the hang of it.   But I have to say modding out an important underground feature simply for convience sounds awfully elfy to me.

Dig a 1 z level pit before your entrance, with no way out. with a bridge or narrow walkway overlooking it,   fill the pit with nobles, elves,  immigrants,   cats   and they'll waste their ammo before ever getting to your real defences, and it helps control the noble, elf, immigrant cat population

You can make a hanging constructed bowl out of whatever suspended by a magma proof support,  then fill it with magma and water to form "natural" obsidian inside your constructed bowl,   and muddy that so that plants can grow on it
