General Discussion / Re: How To: Train Your Crackhead

Funny in concept, dick move in reality.

If the poor dude took shrooms or something, it would make a slot of sense.

If he were a little smarter and was on crack, he'd think someone was trying to take him out Goldeneye style

It would also be interesting to allow your only entrance to be over frozen water, so you're only accessible when its cold

That car crash seems really bad. Its a good thing you didn't get seriously hurt. Hopefully your insurance will cover a lot of it?

Vester, I know we're all crazy here, but you have to wear pants! If you don't others will get the idea they don't need to either.

Think of the children!

Life Advice / Re: Taste and fruit?

I enjoy blackberries and strawberries. Apparently artificial strawberry flavor is pretty spot on. Pineapple is really citrus-y, but tastes great in small amounts. Ever since I went to Fiji, no other fresh pineapple tastes as good.

Ah, the brain in a vat theory.

Arguably, even if everything's not real, you should still go with it. Or, run the equivalent of a virtual machine and live in a sim of the sim. There may be more dopamine there :P

Honestly, it seems like god just doesn't like dopamine

It would also appear that god takes delight in you taking delight in not taking delight.

Unfortunately, if you take delight in not taking delights, you are still taking delights, so you must take in at least some delights so you aren't deliberately taking delight in a lack of delight.

Borderlands was fun for a couple of (long) days. It reminded me of Guild Wars, but I'm not sure why. Could have used a little more testing time too. And storyline, etc. Still, was fun though.

Absolutely. Feel free to track your progress, ask questions, and give sagely advice.

The doc said my knee pain is probably from having really tight hamstrings, and stretching them will remove the pain. I'll have to add that to my schedule.

Dwarf fortress players may not be a good sample (unless thats the idea). A good chunk of them are either short, heavily bearded, not attractive in human terms, manic-depressive, have conflicting personality traits, are mechanically inclined, and sit around in the dark talking to eachother about how the others can't comprehend their lifestyle.

Ah, I meant if you had more meat than when you started, you should check your fingers :P

The closest I do to meat slicing is adding sausage to my eggs in the morning, maybe its much quicker than I imagine.

It would be funny to re-calculate those totals with your rounded pound per slice numbers. You could have ended up with more meat than you started with, implying something went horribly wrong with the slicing.

For the curious, I would assume super thin slicing is a delicate process, taking time. For three minutes...
100 slices at 100/180 seconds or 9/5 seconds per slice, 200/180 or 9/10 of a second for 200, or 300/180 or 9/15 of a second.

Making a slice every 3/5ths of a second would be insane. That's like, ffr arrow fast. How fast do you think you were slicing?

Life Advice / Re: Mathematical Anxiety
« on: April 20, 2010, 10:23:18 pm »
Two of many possible routes...

Math as a peaceful activity
Math as a stimulant

For the first, relax, close your eyes, take deep breaths, possibly lay down or sit cross-legged, and enjoy a scented incense or candle. Clear your mind, and devote an indeterminate amount of time to your math. Allow the world to fall into a solipsm of math and you. Make it your happy place.

Or, for the second, close your eyes, take two deep breaths, drop to the ground and do some pushups. Anxious? Do some sit-ups. Tired? Excellent. Now, while you're catching your breath, start in on your math. Focus every bit of attention you have left into it. Just math and you. After you've recovered, do more physical activity. Once that runner's high has arrived, stop with the physical stimulation and use that extra heightened awareness and feel good feeling and devote yourself wholly to the math. After a few times, instead of anxiety, you'll get pumped for math.

(Using classical conditioning with screamo and running, I would get a jolt of the good kind of adrenaline just from listening to the music)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Ice prison

So...can oceans freeze?

If so, it would be possible to build a small prison out of ice in the middle of the ocean during the winter, and when spring comes around...
