"Oh, thank you"

Travis pushes the box into an uninhabited part of the ship, opens the box, and goes through the imprinting process.

Want to be more specific on how you want to clamber down? Otherwise I'll do an Intelligence Roll.

Though the advertisement, the main webpage of the website, and even the beginning of the game weren't very impressive, I decided to give this a fair chance, since I love Astronomy.

I've played this for about 3 hours, working my way through the tutorial and up to interstellar travel. I'd like to say, for my impression so far, this is better than it looks, especially if you enjoy learning about space. The premise of the game is to explore other solar systems, set up mining operations, and bring the resources back to Earth. You can have multiple ships, stations, and mining operations under your command. You can also PvP, by raiding other player's ships, stations, and mining ops. Corporations can be formed for unified interests, and I assume eventually corporations could own territory, attacking anyone who enters that does not belong. I'll split up the rest of my thoughts into the good and the bad.

Spoiler: The Good (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: The Bad (click to show/hide)

Anyway, if I continue to enjoy this, I'll probably make a B12 Corp at some point. Good job with this. I really do enjoy the exploration feel of it and the information provided.

"Well, at least he cant come and stab me now for blowing him up"Though Jackson He then took his hat off for a moment, then proceeded to go to the edge off the roof, and try putting a couple of shots in the frame of the window

You head to the edge of the roof, and look down at the window under you. Aiming carefully with your X-10, you put a three round burst into the frame.

[Dex 3] [Dex 2] The sudden kick throws you off balance, and during your frantic attempts to stay on the roof, drop your rifle onto the ground below.

Looking through the window again, you see three bullet holes in the 2nd floor of the house. You watch, weaponless, as the two aliens from the ground floor walk up the staircase, round the corner, and then exit your view.

Attempt to get to a better position to shoot the aliens, giving little heed to his own well-being, except for whether he'll live or not.

You frantically run around, trying to get into a better position to fire at the aliens. You then realize the aliens left. Shrugging, you walk up behind a police car and balance your rifle against the hood, kneeling and waiting for the alien scum to show themselves again. Officer James approaches you.

"You are the guys from X-Com, right?" he asks, his face a mixture of confusion and apprehension.

Kick a few roof tiles away and look to blast a hole in the roof with my shotgun.

[Str 2] You weakly kick at the tiles, only achieving in catching your foot and falling on your back.

Sick of it, you press your shotgun against the roof and pull the trigger. Lifting your shotgun again, you are greeted by a somewhat clean hole, which you clean out with your foot. Looks like the hole is above one of the bedrooms. Unfortunately, you can only fit your foot or gun in said hole.

Use a branch, a piece of ration or something to check if the hole and/or the entrance are safely un-shielded. After making sure it is all fine, carefully enter the house and take cover.

Take care with the movement of my allies in the roof. Wait until they do their stuff before moving to places directly beneath their position
(a.k.a. avoid moving under their spot just to be hit by roof tiles and grenades, wait until they finish to do my stuff).

You wait about 10 seconds for your allies to finish their shenanigans, during which time you snag a stick. Waving it into the large hole, you watch it catch fire and heat up fast, but doesn't melt immediately like it did before. Deciding this may be your best chance, you sprint through the hole.

Parts of your suit catch fire, but otherwise you remain unharmed. Patting out the fires, you take a position east of the entrance and peer around the corner of the wall and into the kitchen doorway. No aliens.

Good. A perfect body guard.

Travis exits VR and approaches the Armory Master.

"One Gunner Bot please"

396
Huh. No clearance.....this must be the real doc then. But why didn't he give me compound eyes, or something similarly sick. The man is more complicated than I thought.

I need a body guard.

Travis simulates a gunner bot and does a variety of tests. How long does its battery last? Can its ammo be easily refilled? What weapon specifically was the gunner bot wielding? How does it identify what is hostile and what is not? Does it have a sense of ownership (takes only my orders). How much punishment can it take? Can the battery be recharged? Does it respond to voice commands?

Actually, I rolled a die to see which side of the house the grenade landed on. So it was dice on both accounts.

Anyway, everyone has natural psychic powers in this world. You simply have to know how to tap into them. You could either come in like Remalle did or just learn it on the base. Up to Dwarmin how he wants to implement it. Take a look at the psionics spoiler on the main page for more details.

Yep, you can make a new character and immediately get into the on base thread.

To be honest, I didn't expect you guys to shoot. In a normal circumstance, I'll list the range to a contact. Right now all of you are at medium, don't have a line of site, or are unconscious.

Oh, and also, aliens are all males unless specified otherwise. It makes it easier to write.

((Well, I only injured one person, YAY!))

Well, Crap though Jackson. Then instead of continuing to swear out his teammates stupidity, he grasps a rope, ties it to the Skyranger, and rappels down.

((Did the grenade damage the house? Does it have a hole in it, or a chimney of some kind?))

You tie the rope to a seat on the skyranger, letting the rope dangle down onto the house. Taking a secure grip, you slowly lower yourself as the skyranger moves to and fro with the sudden shifts in the wind and engine output.

You safely lower yourself onto the roof.

(( Hey num nuts come help me lol since you just dropped a bloody grenade on me, ))

Wake up and crawl away

[End 5] You float back into consciousness, your vision a sea of red. A dull thunder of gunfire can be heard off in the distance. Your entire body aches in almost unbearable pain, and you can see a darker red pooling beside you.

[End 1] You attempt to move. Your body sends a cascade of new pain, and you quietly wail out in agony, passing out again as you do so.

"Guys?  The aliens are opening hostilities...  and watch where you lob those damned pineapples!"
Open fire on the aliens now with the auto-shot equivalent!  They're DEFINITELY going to shoot now after hearing the kaboom!
(Sorry guys, but I think you made the hostage a lost cause.)

Medium Full-Auto

[Rifle 1+1][Rifle 6+1]

You click your X-10 into full auto, aiming at the doorway. The sudden unexpected kick from the weapon throws your aim wide, bullets bouncing off all over the house. You get the kick under control and aim the last 1/2 of the burst at the doorway.

The aliens seem unaffected.

"Well," thought Kane, "thats the easy bit done. Now seeing as that chump messed up the grenade throw, how do we get inside?"

Find the largest window on the upstairs floor. See if the shield covers it.

You walk around the roof while bullets whiz by your head as your team opens fire. Bending over and looking at the few windows on the 2nd floor, it appears there's a grand window near the exit of the staircase where the little girl was standing. Huh. She's not there anymore.

[Int 4] You intelligently open your bag and sift through your belongings, finding a ration amongst them. You take the ration, and, while very carefully trying not to fall off the roof, toss it through the window. The ration melts on its way through, quickly cooling and creating a puddle of black solid at the foot of the window.

Theodor was slightly startled by the grenade going off, but the real problem only appeared when the aliens pointed their guns at the group in front of the house.

"Goddamnit. Move to the sides, to the sides! Try to stay our of their line of sight or we'll be toast! Split up! Look through the windows and let's try not to die!" he yelled at the nearby teammates, extending his arm and pointing it towards the sides of the house, hoping the group would not become crispy remains after some hot alien-pistol-on-soft-human-flesh action.

Sprint towards the side, moving away from the aliens' line of fire and towards the side of the house. Shoot one of the pistol-wielding aliens in the face torso along the way. Preferentially the one(s) away from the little girl.

You dash into a sprint, dodging out of the Alien's line of fire and moving to the left side of the house. Being too far to effectively use your shotgun, you elect not to shoot (Medium Range)

"Drop off is getting hot. I'm taking this bird outside the engagement zone. Good luck"

The rope attached to the Skyranger falls momentarily later, and the Skyranger lazily makes its way back to the entry point of the mission.

The aliens, now covered in solidified bits of molten metal, make their move. One walks out of view into the interior of the house, while the other takes a cylindrical object out of his belt. The alien presses buttons and slides other things on the object, and after a moment, the cylindrical object glows blue. He takes a few steps into the 'shield', to the surprise of everyone, and, not melting into a puddle, throws the object.

[Hidden Roll]

The alien fumbles it and it bounces off the roof of the doorway, losing most of its momentum and rolling next to Feanor. The alien then heads back into the house and out of line of sight.

The object, momentarily later, explodes into a shower of plasma. Feanor literally melts before everyone's eyes, as the plasma eats into his very flesh. All that is left of Feanor afterward is a few pieces of bone and flesh.

The plasma also eats into the house, creating a very large hole into the living room.

Here's a recap on the situation, since it might be getting a little fuzzy. You are free to change your actions, just strikethrough the old ones.

A 2 story house with a sloped roof is holding at least 2 aliens and a hostage. The skyranger is hovering overhead. The house's entrances seem to be protected by some sort of shield. Two aliens stand behind the entrance to the main floor, pointing their pistols at the group assembled on the road. There are eight policemen taking cover behind various police cars and are maintaining a surround.

One agent is in the skyranger, one agent is on the roof of the house, one agent is unconscious and broken, lying next to the house (the extent of his injuries remain unknown), and two agents are outside with some of the police on the road.

...oh, I just realized I screwed up the house layout. I've had the windows at the front of the house this entire time, yet I put the bedrooms on the side of the house in the layout. I'll retcon and say there is a window on the 2nd floor at the exit of the stairwell. Anyway, here's an updated map of the 1st floor. Stars represent aliens.

Instead of a turn, you get psionic mechanics revealed! I was quickly realizing that psionics were becoming a thing much earlier in this RtD than I had planned, so I decided to iron out the mechanics.

The house has a few broken windows, but otherwise no damage was done. I meant to mention that and forgot. There is also no chimney. Basically, it's a two story house with a sloped roof.

"Thats fine, come on, lets do this!" Yells Jackson over the roar of the engines.

Throw HE grenade down on the roof, try to blow a hole. Also, look for some rope in the plane we can use to grapple down.

You take your HE grenade out of your belt, it bouncing in your hand due to the unstable hover. You wait...time it right, and then pull the pin, dropping the grenade directly on the top of the house. It bounces....and then rolls.

You only have enough time for a facepalm before Kane runs past you and jumps off the plane.

In the midst of all this failure, you do find a cabinet full of rope, parachutes, flares, fire extinguishers, and some floatation devices. Seems to be in case of a crash.

Moe Johnson looked at the aliens for a bit longer, before sighing.  "You there...  you seem to be the leader...  Why don't you converse with them?"  Moe thinks to himself that he really hopes he doesn't have to be the diplomat.
Attempt to convince another operative in the group to take the diplomat position.

"Hey you! Theodore! I'm not really into this whole giving myself up to the aliens as a diplomat sort of deal, so do you think you co-"

You stop mid sentence when you see a grenade roll off the roof of the house. In the split second you have, your training proved it's worth, and you immediately drop to the ground. A piece of shrapnel whizzes by your arm, taking a piece of your suit with it.

"I should have taken that ride."
Follow the ground team into the house if they do so. Try to figure out the quickest way of disabling the aliens without killing the girl

The ground team seems content to stand around for the moment, so you take a second to think to yourself.

[Int 2] You could uh....ask the aliens nicely to give up the girl. Maybe you could bake them cookies as a peace offering.

Excited by your new plan, you're about to share it with your team mates when you see a grenade roll off the roof of the house. You instinctively drop to the ground. The explosion goes off momentarily later, accompanied by cries of agony and pain. You thank the gods for sparing you from your team mates.

Ask the cops if they have any battering rams then using the knife put 5 holes in the wall in the shape of a square with a hole right in the center.

"We're just police. We don't carry battering rams around. Not exactly standard procedure"

You approach the wall and are about to carve out some holes when you hear something drop behind you. A high explosive grenade.

[Dex 2] You attempt to sprint away but only succeed in catching your foot on the pavement and falling on your face. The grenade goes off momentarily later.

The explosion throws you at the suburban house wall, the crack of bones like a symphony of death. After a momentary pause, gravity catches up with you, and you plop onto the ground, like some rag doll for the gods to play with.

[End 1] You pass out from the excruciating pain.

"Make a hole in the roof for me and ill jump down onto the roof and get near it, waiting for some kind of signal that the shield is down" Kane yelled over engine noise...

"Any of you guys know if this shield covers the entire house or just windows and doors?" Kane yelled over his radio, hoping either his comrades or the local cops could give an answer.

Wait for the explosives to be thrown and to go off before jumping down onto the roof. If this could be co-ordinated with they guys on the ground going in through the wall, all the better. If not, no big deal, they can make thier move after I am on the roof, acting as a nice loud distraction. DO NOT go through any resulting hole without first finding out if it is safe to do so - IE no "shield"

You impatiently watch as Jackson carefully holds his grenade, trying to decide what angle to drop it at. Satisfied, he drops it, and you prepare to make a running jump. The theme of A team playing in your head, you leap off the Skyranger.

[Dex 6] You tuck yourself and roll onto the roof, coming out with a big A formed in your arms.

"What the hell is going on here!?

The aliens, not seemingly pleased with the recent turn of events, take their pistols out of their holsters and aim them at the group assembled in front of the house. The little girl appears in the upstairs window again.

"They're really serious guys! Bring leader or they'll...no, no! don-" The girl's voice grows weak, and, seemingly unable to maintain her balance, collapses.
