First: I understand that there is some sort of menu? Where you can choose to do specific things. How would I find it?

Second: If there is a menu where you can chose what you do and how, wouldn't wrestling be the best combat skill? You could just run up and grab the guy and choke him to death, or is there something I'm missing?

EDIT:: Third: If I mod my adventure's race to have more arms and hands, will he be able to use them effectively?

...The only trouble is that you'll have to get rid of all of your other available stones so your stone crafters only use obsidian.

:(... god I hate micromanaging...
I'm just gonna make the rock swords, my obsidian farm works well enough that I don't need to worry about running out of obsidian, and I'm to lazy to make a system of obsidian only crafting.

EDIT:: I also have plenty of wood, enough that I acctually need to cut out an area for the wagons to get thru.

But thanks man...

.... :( I wanted to flood everything...

Brooks are weird, I'm not sure it will freeze (that top walkable layer does odd things), rivers on the other hand...

The brook does freeze, like I said, cold climate, so it was frozen when I arrived, but will it flood?

2) By economic strategy do you mean as in making goods for trading?
if so then I suggest that you export prepared meals instead. either proccess sweet pods into syrup. and then cook them or cook your booze.
Yeah that's what I mean, and I have been preparing meals, but I am reluctant to trade them, or to cook my booze, what am I supposed to do for food if I'm exporting all of it?

EDIT:: Is making rock swords still a viable strategey? If used instead of/with the prepared meals?

Ok, so that's the most imaginative title I could come up with for my question post, and I have two questios:

First: I'm in a cold climate, and I want to know, when the brook I'm near freezes, if I were to dam it what would happen to the water? Would anything past the dam dry up eventually? And would the brook flood?

Second: Is spamming "Make rock short sword" a viable economic strategey? I'm early in the game, and while my mason isn't trained in stonecrafting, he can make them pretty fast.

Third (Bonus surprise question!): If it's not a good idea, I happen to have magma (With 3 the three furnaces, but no forge), plenty of copper (Starting to make it into bars), a sand layer, and a crapload of trees. Using those materials can I make anything better?

Fourth (Ok, I lied): Do you like pie?

It doesn't matter to me if it involves downloading a program or editing the raws, I just want them to go away. Can you get rid of them?

The DM will live, everyone else gets to help me test new ways of killing captured elves.

So I'm working on a project (Not a mega one, but  kinda difficult.), I have access to a chasm, and a river. So I'm digging a chute to take water down 10z levels, then empty out into the chasm. It will provide water (little resivor with floodgates at the side) and it will look really cool. (The chute is 5x5 on the xy) Yeah it'll be a waterfall. But thats not whats cool. I'm currently digging the chute out, I have z levels 2-6 complete, with nothing on 7-10, and bits of stone left on z level 1.

So I sent my miners to get rid of the rest of the stone on z1. I screwed up and a cave-in was triggered... sending both my almost Legendary miners down 6 z-levels. One of them got his pelvis shoved up his throat, the other was perfectly fine, but unconcious. Yes. He LIVED! He dropped 6 z-levels and LIVED!

But...

Then I sent him to finish the job once he woke up. Guess who triggered ANOTHER cave-in? But then he DIDN'T die! He fell 6 z-levels twice!! And both times he got KO'ed, but got right back up again and went back to work.

Now I'm debating... try to kill him by dropping him off something tall, or train him to Legendary and put him in my (non-existient) military?

...he had an accident...
I just want to know if there is anything bad about killing nobles, I know that the benifits will probly totally outweight the problems minor inconveniences, but does anything happen? I've heard that less migrants will come, but that's not such a big deal for me.

DF Gameplay Questions / A question about building destroyers.
« on: February 09, 2010, 03:23:19 pm »
Ok, so my fort is currently in a biome with a layer of silty clay, over a level granite. I decided to build my farm in the clay, and have everything else below in the granite... But then I had an idea... silty clay is easy to dig through, making a maze would be easy. But... that would make getting my dwarves to the surface hell. So I want to know, if I have the entrance to my maze (from the surface) and the exit (to the granite levels) really close together (They are), and just build doors to separate them and build the maze so it takes you away from the doors, all over the place, the back to the doors (on the far side), will building destroyers try to figure out the maze, or will they break down the doors.

The point of the doors is to let my dwarves onto the surface easily, I'd have them all linked to a lever to shut them when I came under attack.

If that isn't possible I do have an alternative plan, but it would involve water, ice, and FUN.
