DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / I've been away for half a decade, anything new?
« on: November 07, 2016, 04:44:12 pm »
I haven't played DF in a looooong time, my good computer died, again. So I'm back to using my 06' computer, again. Which means I'm looking for Lowfi games, again.

I've gone back and looked at the changelogs, and decided I'd rather talk to human beings about it(Hello fellow humans #notarobot). What big changes have I missed? Would you enjoy this timecapsule of DF related questions?

Don't seriously attempt to answer these. I'm looking for a discussion, and a trading of perspectives. These are more to elucidate where I was to you, rather than anything else.

Do Clowns still kill your computer before they kill your Dorfs?
Can we craft in adventure mode?
Can flying creatures vault over pathless walls yet?
Are invasions still infinite, are dwarf expeditions working yet?
Is the military screen still a nightmare?
Do caravans still bug out all the time?
Are Nobles still lavabate?
Are Forbidden Beasts still ridiculously common?
Traps still OP?
Is Masterwork still trash?
Did I miss any good comics?

My first dwarf to gain a title in Lancedweakened, a female axelord, was dubbed "the Virginal Crow." I just wish this had happened on a glacier.
I don't get it.
I guess because crows don't show up on glacier biomes, so "The Virginal Crow" would be "virginal" by being the first crow on the glacier. Except the crow is a dwarf with a big axe.
Oh. I thought it was some kind of innuendo.

It's a GOT reference.

Chocolate contains theobromine which when ingested by dogs, affects the central nervous system, and can cause epileptic seizures.
Although a small amount of chocolate won't kill a dog, they will however become addicted and go out of their way to get more, whenever possible, from then on.

You have to put it in the raws in the save folder, and edit entities_default if you don't paste over an old reaction. Apparently.

To make things easy…
Code: (Before:) [Select]

[REAGENT:A:300:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:COPPER]
[REAGENT:B:150:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:SILVER]
[REAGENT:C:150:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:GOLD]
[PRODUCT:100:4:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:BLACK_BRONZE][PRODUCT_DIMENSION:150]
[FUEL]
[SKILL:SMELT]

Code: (After:) [Select]
[REACTION:BLACK_BRONZE_MAKING]
[NAME:make bones]

[PRODUCT:100:1:CORPSEPIECE:SHELL:CREATURE_MAT:TURTLE:SHELL]
[PRODUCT:100:1:CORPSEPIECE:BONE:CREATURE_MAT:ELF:BONE]
[SKILL:COOK]

and then change it back after, or don't.

Somebody made a Slavery Utility, but it tended to cause bugs.
It was called Friendship.exe if I remember correctly.

Was a really cool concept, however…
Politically incorrect, and apparently hard to implement.

I haven't had much fun in the new version because of Material Creatures, and The Undead. I've mostly just had FUN. Although I've had similar experiences in 40d.

Like once while dealing with an underground river. I had the entire(but somewhat mitigated) population of said river trapped in one pool, the population of that pool was: One Lizardman(Female), and three Olmmen(Male). Much unfortunate implication…  Became, very intriguing imagery.

And this other time in Adventurer Mode I Strangled a Tigerman(Female) until it was unconscious and well considering the circumstances(not being able to 'I'nteract with it using a cage or rope), I pressed the 's' button repeatedly for a while.
Which now that I think about it, that's pretty disturbing.

Hi!

Actually, I find this hate towards these terms somewhat amusing in a community where misspelling dwarf as dorf is quite common (and yes, I find dorf much more unpleasant than clown).

Well, I guess everyone have their pet peeve :) :) :) :) :)

DBag

Dorf is memetic, it's not a typo.

Okay.
I hate to be such a hypocrite after my last comment, but I'd like to get back on track.

The deal is usually you'd get Lead a lot sooner than Adamantine or Slade.

Compared to Iron or Steal though, which is abundant and often the first choice for training crafting and using as armor.
Does the new 'weight adding to damage mechanic' make Lead Blunt Weapons a better option than Steel Weapons?
