my suggestion: see all the posts above me......do all of them.  one thing i havent seen anyone mention yet is you can do stuff like drop them off cliffs....dont have a cliff you say? BUILD ONE. (tower or channeling)  one other thing you can do thats entertaining to do with an elf is to channel a 1x1 square out in the middle of a dining room, drop him inside, and then put flooring over it....then he will forever be a part of your fortress.   ;D

and remember, magma solves all problems......period.

I agree with you there. I've done it only twice.

Once to see what happened  :D and then my dwarves hid in horror ... expecting retribution. But none came.
Second I ... well I marked all my items and managed to give them away on accident. So I stole everything back... but in the spirit of honesty I dumped most of my ill gotten gains in the garbage.

Y'all do realize that, from an entity standpoint, this is exactly identical to seizing all their stuff, right? Every civ keeps a log of what they send and receive from your fortress. If their taking massive losses, they might start a war.
so if a goblin ambush occurs when the merchants do and the goblins kill all of them and you take the stuff from thier dead bodies, does that count as a loss to them and make them declare war on you? (even though its not your fault)

My fort was placed in an intersection between a large goblin empire and a large elf empire.  I can't seem to engrave ANYTHING but goblins murdering elves by the thousands.

I have no idea what it was, but I think I have about 100 engravings (each with unique deaths) about my personal favorite war name: "The Attack Of Stabbing"
i wish i got engravings like that, all my engravings are pictures of "a dwarf and dwarves, the dwarf is surrounded by the dwarves", so boring, and its on EVERYTHING

i just came up with an idea....as you can see in the raw data, i changed the [PET_EXOTIC] tag to [PET] and added in [COMMON_DOMESTIC] so migrants will bring in fire imps (hopefully gendered) with them. Unfortunately no new migrants have been showing up lately, think it will work without re-embarking?

if you looked closely i already have the child tag in the imps data, unfortunately i think your right about the spawning off map.....and i dont want to sart over with a new map because this map and fortress are so far along and are awesome, so it looks like im screwed.  :(

Add this to the entity file:

[CHILD:#][CHILDNAME:singular name:plural name]

where #= the amount of children you want the thing to have in one go

You really should make sure you're giving valid advice, since this bit is wrong - the CHILD tag specifies the age at which the animal becomes an adult. If you want to increase the litter size, use [LITTERSIZE:min:max].

do i have to get rid of the [NO_GENDER] tag for it to work?

I've modded my fire imps to both reproduce and also be tamed/trained.

Nothing is quite as dwarven as having war fire imps, who not only fight but also fling fireballs at random, setting the landscape on fire and turning the lush forest into a charred wasteland, with the wall of fire igniting those pesky elves with all of their cloth bins.
im with Hyndis on this, fire imps setting your enemies ablaze is just plain cool.  though i dont know how to mod them to reproduce,  if someone could tell me that would come in handy  ;D

definitely the skeletal giant eagle..........the horror...

they are literally invinsible and will kill all dwarfs that go outide, if you see one on the map, just give up.....its not worth it.

Recruit, place barracks on top of really high tower.  Equip all of them with masterwork steel hammers.  Enjoy :P
If any of them happen to survive (Without broken spines and/or brains) then you have yourself some soldiers, if some survive with broken spines and/or brains then you have yourself some fortress guards :P

HAHAHAA, dude your so screwed. i say, you cause a massive cave in on top of the spirits of fire, that might do the trick, but then again, i dont have too much experience with HFS yet, but it sounds like it would work.....
