GM Note: After some thought, I don't think I want to zoom the game in to the level of knowing individual Mavens and interacting with them directly. While that definitely would be interesting, the scale of the game (both physical and time) are much larger than that and wouldn't mesh well with that direct interaction and back and forth. So, you may definitely still give them orders and such, and the in the game world the AI will be directly connected to the Maven, we can't slow the game down to the point where you could have meaningful interaction with them.

GM Note: Love the ideas for all the suits, but realize that there is a HUGE gap between the technology currently possessed by the colonies and what you are proposing. Remember, you just put some neural implants in that effectively disabled or killed 80% of their subjects. That's without even talking about extensive human genetic modification, advanced anti-ballistic materials, regeneration, and so on. So... maybe have those plans in mind eventually, but consider the fact that there are many steps between now and then.

Then my vote is to forge a document and use our thugs and vocal slickness to intimidate this "Alice" off of her stand.

The xenoarcheological outpost attracts roughly 50 volunteers, who excitedly set up a thriving base on the new planet over the next two months. While it contains environmentally stable capsules for living, the volunteers quickly establish (thanks to one brave scientist) that external living is easily doable without breathing apparatuses. Small huts are set up outside the capsules, and a vegetable garden using stocks from the ship of soil and plants is set up (in a greenhouse to prevent cross-contamination). The outpost even has a mascot, a particularly affectionate Giant Bee. His name is Gomer. He is well-loved by all.

A mission is sent out to one of the temperature maintenance stations that is kicking up truly tremendous amounts of water vapor into the atmosphere. After a few days probing around the outside, an attempt is made to enter through what appears to be a maintenance hatch. All hell breaks loose. The communications from the group are incredibly unclear, garbled, and confusing. Satellite images fail to offer high enough resolution. Something loud and high-pitched is heard on the tapes, screams are heard, and then the feed dies. There are no survivors, and no one volunteers to return. Fifteen people perish, in all, although they are mourned as brave volunteers in Aries and Gaia alike. A low level of panic begins to run through Gaia, but they manage to keep it to a minimum.

When the archives are examined again, the same corruption that thwarted earlier attempts to find information about the system and the mission rears its ugly head. This issue seems to be intractable.

The "Moonies," as they seem to be called affectionately by subroutines and colonists alike, are contacted regarding Gaia and the beings that transformed it. They reply thusly: "They have been gone for many [ages or centuries]. They did not [talk or contact] like you do. We [know or tell] no more."

On Aquarius, some progress is made in speaking with the Avians. One tribe seems to be congregating around the Contact Center, and they are picking up the sign language quickly. Within the next few months, a dialogue of some type may be possible. No new insight is gleaned yet, however, as the language is still in its infancy.

The Maven program bubbles up from the depths of the subroutines, and the general is consulted. He seems to be intrigued, and agrees to circulate the program amongst his top soldiers and officers to see if there are any volunteers. After a few weeks, an initial class of 10 Pre-Mavens are selected (7 soldiers, 3 officers).

Neurological implants are surgically inserted to allow them to begin to network together, as this is seen as the most difficult technical issue to master. The surgeries go fine, but the testing phase is... catastrophic. The ability to communicate almost instantly through the implants seems to overwhelm the brains of the candidates, as too many messages begin to shoot back and forth (including things like impulses from their autonomic nervous systems), and they begin to seizure and hemorrhage almost immediately. Five of the candidates die outright, and three of the surviving five are clinically insane. One officer and one soldier remain, thankfully intact physically and mentally after a quick-acting subroutine puts in a program that filters out all non-conscious thoughts from transmission.

On a somber note, the last Pre-Maven to pass away signifies the 100th casualty of the mission. A small ceremony is held in the chapel to mark the occasion.

Amidst all of this chaos, satellites observing the system report that an asteroid is heading towards Aquarius. It is not extinction-level, but will still wreak havoc if it is allowed to hit. The next two months will be... busy.

So I think I have to post a turn this evening, just to get through some of these suggestions. Let me make sure I have this right: you want to build cyborg-style biological robots that have direct uplinks to the AI and super weapons and armor? Am I reading this right?

Possibly use our connection with Lady Emerfarth to see if we can get a document drawn up to kick her out of the spot. If not, forge one?

If piecewise is fine with it, I'm all for it. I know from GM-ing some other games that things start to get a bit overwhelming with so many characters, especially since you have a high amount of detail. But if you are okay, let's do it.

Try and show our helpers what a long term association with us would offer.

"While my finances are fluid at the moment, I promise that working with me will pay off in the long run. I always take care of those closest to me. Would you truly consider leaving a potential lifelong association the first time some fool flashes a coin at you?"

After the initial enthusiasm about Gaia, a sense of skepticism begins to permeate both the AI and the human colonists. Extensive research of the planet is ordered, and results begins to come back as probes are launched and scans are done.

Some traces of previous terraforming or civilization are found: there are no abandoned urban areas, no clearly demarcated zones of deforestation, but a probe does turn up several stations that seem to be designed to cool the planet by transforming sea water into cloud cover. Further examination of the species on the ground reveals an intense lack of competition among the animals: evolution seems to have progressed quite slowly on the planet, leaving the dominant specimens still quite far from intelligence. There is also some evidence of genetic modification, most likely to reduce intelligence of the native species.

The magnetic field on the planet is uniquely strong, and seems to shield much of the solar flare activity away from the biosphere. This is combined with an unusually thick cloud layer (most likely due to the industrial equipment), which manages to deflect an incredible amount of heat away from the planet. The resulting temperatures are high, and rain is more prevalent, but still well within the range of tolerable for humanity (think tropical rainforest for the most part).

The microbial and viral population on the planet are nothing to be worried about, either. In fact, it seems that most of the specimens are analogous to simple germs that existed on Earth a long time ago.

The captain is of the opinion that either this planet is being terraformed for someone in the future, or it was in the past. However, finders tend to be keepers, so he believes that it should be exploited as soon as possible. "Doesn't make sense to have all of our eggs in one basket." The Grand Parliament also demands that an outpost be set up there, at a minimum.

Attempts to communicate with the aliens are actually quite successful: the quantum computer has made significant progress in their language since the initial contact. A message is sent to them, asking about the first planet in the system. This is the response given. "Many ages ago, other star visitors came to this system. They began to [change] the first planet. They suddenly [left or died]."

Although the final sentence is disturbing, it seems to confirm that the planet was terraformed a long time ago, but it is unclear whether the original "owners" are dead or simply gone.

Contact with the Avians has another step forward as well, as a research team on Aquarius begins to communicate via sign language with some of the birds. It is still too simple for complex talk, but single words are easily understood between the species now.

A breakthrough in research leads to the science of aerotransmission being unlocked. Power can now be wirelessly transferred through the air with ease. The uses of this technology may still be up in the air, but it is definitely possible now.

After a concerted effort, volcanism starts back up on Aries. Gases begin to enter the atmosphere, and the temperature begins to raise slightly. The volcanic area is on the other side of the planet, thankfully, and the impact on the colony is minimal: mostly some ash.

Take the following back to Jeep:
>Empty Bottles (3) (1kg)
>Canned food (4) (4kg)
>A Spool of Baling Wire (1/4 left)
>Box of Matches (47 left)
>Bottle of Rubbing Alcohol (1kg)
>Box of Nails (50 left)

I agree that a roles pane would be useful, but probably limit it to above 50% or top 10, either way.
