Hi there.

I fortunately have a job, and support myself while being disabled without taking benefits from anyone and only the physical help I absolutely need. I mostly just tough through it. It's difficult and painful for me to walk but I do it with a walker or sometimes a cane when I'm feeling better. I can sit just fine mostly as long as I don't mess up the nerves involved. Permanent nerve damage from injuries is fun. Basically the doctors can't seem to do anything about it. I refuse to take opioids because those things are addictive and had bad side effects for me. I was offered a neurectomy but that would leave me without feeling in a good portion of my leg(s). So, I would not be able to feel it if I got hurt there..... This would be bad if I got a cut or infection I could not feel and shaving your legs is hard enough as it is without worrying if you cut yourself without feeling it. So, no thanks.

My work is letting people keep working from home if they are within 30 miles, but I am a little further out than that. Like 40 or so miles away. My immediate supervisor thinks this is BS but there's nothing they can do. It's a stupid rule and the managers are not budging. She says if I can get a doctor's note that might work though, because then it would justify why they would let me do it and not everyone else. That's kind of crummy of them, but ... Basically I am being told I need a doctor's note for a reasonable accommodation. Weird how before this I was always just being the good girl and not making a fuss for anything but now they do this so they can justify not letting everyone work from home too. I don't want to be disabled and I want to work (what else am I going to do with myself?) but it would be just a million times easier if I didn't have to walk around and could just sit in my chair at home and work instead of trekking in all the time. It's just so stupidly weird that literally half my office is working from home but the one girl who uses a walker can't because she lives 10 miles too far away. Honestly I think everyone is sort of looking at this and silently calling BS in their heads but they dare not say anything.

My issue is that my doctors just don't seem to want to do anything anymore from my perspective or declare me just disabled or whatever with a note so people will shut up and let me work. It's been 7 years going on 8 years and I have been good about all this. I've tried fixes and they just don't work. Physical therapy, injections (they won't tell me what kind but a "nerve block" under fluroscopy (like an X-ray movie) does not seem to help and that swelled up), and everything basically just does not help overall.

I do not know what to say to get a doctor to just give me a stupid doctor's note to let my boss let me work from home like I did during COVID. I don't want to get government benefits or anything. I just want to be able to do my job without a bunch of pain. I just feel like instead of helping me, I go to doctors and end up paying hundreds of dollars of copays to be told there is something wrong with me some type of (chronic neuropathy and nerve damage in a bunch of nerves they name off) but they do not suggest other treatments anymore. I wonder why I go. It's expensive and I can't afford it for what feels like no result.

TL:DR: If I lived 10 miles closer to work, I could work at home like everyone else. I don't live 10 miles closer to work so I need a doctor's note to work at home like everyone else, who isn't disabled. How do I get my doctor to write me a note so I can show it to my boss and the managers will let me keep working from home? Don't want opioids. Don't want handouts. Just want to keep working ... from home like half my office does already.

Hey,

As you can see from the profile, I joined here way back in 2010ish. It's been a bit since I played. I stopped right around when vampires and werecreatures were new and before railroad carts really happened. Considering getting back into it, but unsure, because it's been so long. Some questions:

1.) What are your impressions of the new steam game? Worth the time investment?

2.) I'm sure there are new features, what have I missed?. A.) Are they optional (can I turn off vampires/necromancers) or B.) "should they be optional?"

3.) Mods. I remember Stonesense from forever ago. Are there decent mods? Any good ones? 3d visualizers like Stonesense (or is the graphical update cool for you guys?).

4.) Is the UI improved? (I actually got used to it back then with the keyboard commands).

5.) It's been a few years. Anything I should / would want to know?

I appreciate your time. Thank you.

Life Advice / PDF document prints without the blue ink signature?
« on: October 22, 2022, 11:14:55 pm »

Basically, my printer is printing a PDF document, but not the blue ink signature part....?

I have an important form I need to submit ASAP. I emailed it to my former employers, and got them to sign it. Looks like HR printed it out and signed it with a blue ink pen, then scanned it and emailed it back to me.

Part of me can't believe I have to actually snail mail this thing, and I can't just am not allowed to upload it as a PDF. This means I have to print out a hard copy and mail it.

Issue: My printer is working fine on all the pages except the one my old HR manager signed. It prints the document fine except it omits the marks he made with a pen (signature, etc). I thought I might be out of blue ink, but the first page of the form has a blue hyperlink in it and that printed just fine.

I have printed it out in grayscale but parts of it are faint. I just want this thing to print out like it is on the screen, with his signature on it. I don't care if it's blue like the inkpen he used, black would be doable if possible.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Life Advice / Jerk Groundhog and Exterminator.
« on: June 30, 2022, 10:50:31 am »
Jerk Groundhog:

There is a groundhog under my old broken down back shed. He comes out to sun himself and eat anything anyone grows. I would like to fix this broken down shed, but before I can, I thought I should get rid of him, because he is probably digging around and messing up the foundation. Also, he is eating everyone's vegetables, etc.

Exterminator:
I hired an exterminator. $175 for the trap, and $95 per animal.

So far we have set the trap twice and gotten 2 raccoons, which have to be killed by state law (there was a rabies incident about 8-10 years ago).

1.) This is a fairly wooded area, and I bet there are raccons galore. I can't keep setting this trap and paying $95 per animal, because there are probably who knows how many raccoons around here.

2.) How do I get the groundhog?
I was told he could be released into the woods far away from everyone if he was caught in a trap (unlike the raccoons).
At this point, I don't care anymore. He does not seem to care about the trap and is not falling for it. I would almost shoot him if I could.

What do I do?

Sometimes I hate being looked at like I'm stupid with building things because I'm a girl. It's annoying, but I also sort of am not the most handy person ever. I get it, but I'm not dumb.

Giant windstorm just happened. Old large shed now has issues ("grandfathered in" building that probably couldn't be built today, but it stores things.):
Dimensions: 28 feet by 11 feet.

1.) The roof was put on 6 years ago, but now has a bowling ball sized hole on one of the side roof areas. Otherwise the roof "looks" good, but leaks I don't know why.
2.) Most of it has a concrete pad under it. A groundhog found the part that doesn't and dug in. Mr groundhog wouldn't be so bad if he didn't invite the vermin in.
3.) Some of the wood is dry rotted and whoever made this thing used some low quality wood.

Had a contractor come out, initially for a small, cheap repair. He ended up suggesting demolishing it for $3000 and then later buying something else.
That's problematic for cost, permitting, and practically getting crap back there to the physical location. Also, while he did find some issues like the roof and dry rot, come on....
All told he said it would be like at least $9000-$10000 to remove the whole thing and put up new stuff.... For a large shed.... I live in the Midwest, and that is a significant portion of the house's value for a large shed.... He also tried to tell me that the house's value would improve without the shed, because the problems would be gone....

My neighbor overheard this, told me this guy was snow-jobing me and called a friend of his, who came out in 15 minutes to look at it. This guy suggested temporarily patching the roof and another hole until spring, and then redoing the roof in the spring/summer. He said it would take 3 to 4 hours to do in the winter and he would bill me the cost of materials. He did not give me an exact $cost, but did warn me that wood is very expensive right now and that I would just have to pay what home Depot charged for it, plus labor. He also said rebuilding the damn thing from nothing would be a permit nightmare so replacing was the thing to do. Overall, he said, "it all depends on what you want to spend, but the siding alone would hold that damn thing together even if  all the wood rotted for 4 or 5 years. Repair it, clean it, and paint it." He will get on it a week or two into January, and said there is no way a contractor is going to do anything last 10 days of December, ever.

I gather neighbor's friend is going to be way cheaper than $8000-$9000 (that I don't have). It might be a couple thousand, but the other guy wanted to charge me $3000 to have nothing back there.
I'm thinking this guy can replace the shed roof and hopefully some of the wood in the walls. if it is rotted out and just make it water tight to last. I have no issue paying this guy for decent work that actually lasts and if the wood costs more then it costs more. He said like $40 for a 4 x 8 sheet of treated lumber. He also just recommended pouring some concrete over the dirt floor area to deter the groundhog and also because a concrete shed floor is better than a dirt floor, and it would cost whatever bags of quickcrete was selling for plus labor.

Just in time for Christmas, the large shed I never used has a lovely set of issues. Yay! Anyhow, I don't know. Part of me thinks that people actually like storage (they pay for storage), and I could actually fix it up and use it.

So, thoughts? Should I A.) demolish it and loose 308 sq ft of storage (with electric) and hope I can find something later, B.) temporarily patch it and repair it later?

Life Advice / Buying a Car Question
« on: April 17, 2021, 07:55:04 pm »
I just had some questions about buying a car, probably a used/possibly a certified preowned one. I took care of my car forever, but yeah.... Basically my car is dying. It's almost 20 years old, so I'm not exactly surprised. Fixing it costs ... frankly too much to be worth it. Wondering if I could get some constructive opinions/expertise on some of the following please.

I.) Odd family stuff concerning this: For years, my dad talked about nothing but cars. Couldn't get him to shut up about them. Now, he's saying general things only. Oddly, mom is talking to me about interest rates etc, and referring me new cars ... I can't afford a "new" car, and she should know it. Thinking used/certified preowned. I am basically not getting a new car, but rather another car, that's only 3-6 years old. Dad is older, etc. Now claims to be "busy," but he's retired, so that's an odd timing.... He should not be "busy," for this.... He does not have a job anymore, etc. He said he'd help me (not financially but that's ok ish and I knew this) buy a car, because he knows a lot about them. He used to repair/sell them. Not sure what's up with these two.

II.) I am looking for a small SUV. Shopping around for one, etc.

III.) What brands are good?
A.) I've had great experiences with a Mitsubishi, but for whatever reason, the dealerships that sell those around me are closing. I'd have to go 2 hours away to get it serviced.
Sadly that's looking like less of an option.

B.) My dad said he wouldn't hit a dead dog with a Ford.... He won't explain his comment, but I'm guessing they aren't great. He said similar things about GM.... So basically not this.

C.) Kia: I'm being nudged in this direction. About 10 years ago or more, they were ... less than great. Now I'm hearing they are much better.
I guess I wouldn't mind one of their SUVs in theory, like a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Sorento Sorento, or something. (I know I butchered that hyperlink and I'm sorry).

Are these cars generally better than they were. Would you buy one?

D.) Hyundai. I know nothing about these, only that my mom told me they would not stand behind a warranty for someone, and that I "shouldn't buy one."

E.) Something else?

F.) What cars would you absolutely AVOID? Just as important as what to buy is what NOT to buy. Thoughts?

IV.) I'm looking at various car dealer websites for things.

A.) I know it's a stereotype, but car dealers have a reputation of ripping people off, especially girls. Now does this appear to be a new digital version of this? Anything I should watch out for?

B.) Same idea with technical matters on cars.
I know to look at certain things like mileage, but I'm sure there are things I am missing. Thoughts?

I know there are probably some car people around here, who wouldn't mind sharing their thoughts on what type of car they would buy today. I would appreciate any constructive thoughts on the matter. I am grateful for your time. Just trying to figure things out. Thank you.

Life Advice / Car tires slowly leaking (all four).
« on: September 06, 2020, 04:46:10 pm »
So I'm awful at car stuff, clearly. Anyhow. All four of my tires slowly leak. I put a lot of air in about once every 3 to 4 weeks (10-15 pounds). This has been going on a very long time.
I've had the valve stems replaced. Still.... I can find no obvious damage (nail or whatever), and it wouldn't effect all four tires....

I don't care anymore. If I have to buy new tires I will, but I want to make sure that's the issue. I also do not want to look like a total moron in front of whoever I take this to (shop, etc).
I am a total moron. I just don't want to look like one, and I want to be less of a moron.

Has anyone else had this issue? I'm thinking (and remember I suck at cars) it could logically be the tires (or some part of it), or the wheels (rims?).

Thoughts?

Life Advice / Help finding an old 2012 document (please, if you can)
« on: January 17, 2020, 05:37:47 pm »
Hi everyone,

I am not smart and a lot of people here are. I have looked everywhere for this one document and I just cannot find it. I hate to bother any of you here, and I feel like I kind of suck at life sometimes for being an imposition. Also, I realize there are some medical type people on here who might understand CPT codes/medical coding.

The document I am looking for is:

AMA CPT Assistant July 2012
(American Medical Association Current Procedural Terminology)

Spine and Spinal Cord Code Changes, 7, 201, Jul, 3.

Basically, this is a document clarifying medical coding for a doctor who would perform an operation on someone's spine, and how to code for it. If it helps I think the text I need is on page 3. I lost my copy, and I just do not have access to this.  If there are any other coders here, I am basically thinking 63056 is an open procedure and can't be done with an endoscope under that code.

I realize this is a long shot, and apologize for being an imposition in advance. If anyone could be so kind and fortunate as to have a copy/find it, then could you please direct me to it?

Thank you very much for your time in any event.

Having difficulty finding an answer to this one. I know there are some medical people here. I'm trying to better myself and my career. Please.

The issue seems to go around PHI (Protected Health Information) including pictures of residents in longer term facilities. I know the obvious part about it applies to "covered entities and business associates" (Hospitals, nursing homes, and businesses they hire to do stuff like medical coding). I guess that's not as good an answer as they want from me on this.

1.) What about visitors? (To like a nursing home or inpatient rehab facility).
2.) Does a nursing home or an Inpatient Rehab Facility have a responsibility to keep visitors from taking pictures?
3.) Would a nursing home or inpatient rehab facility that took its residents on a field trip have a responsibility to keep the public from taking pictures if they took their residents on field trips?

Trying to find answers on these isn't working for me. All I seem to get is "covered entities and business associates." Am I missing something? I'm really confused. Does anyone here work in a long term medical or rehab place that deals with this HIPAA stuff?

The "Visitors" and "Field Trip" thing throws me off a lot.... Thank you for any help you might give, because I don't get this.

P.S. I'm looking at possibly getting a healthcare field related job. This is a question they're asking about a privacy rule for medical stuff. I'm drawing a blank.

I live in the midwest and am trying to figure out how to get some kind of service for my smart phone. So far the best thing I've found is $55/month from Verizon for 2 GB and unlimited talk/text/ month. With tax I think it'll be like $60/month.

Does anybody out there have any other plans they use/like and can afford? I haven't looked at Sprint or anything else? I'm not sure, but I can't be the only one who would benefit from this here can I?

What plan do you use, is it good and how much? I guess comparing plans?

Thank you if you can help me or not, either way really.

I work during the week, but need a second job. Probably nothing fancy or nice.

How do I get someone to hire me when I'm "overqualified?" I just want like a store clerk or something job. This isn't a main thing for me. You'd think whoever is looking for part time weekend help would want somebody who has a good record of attendance etc, but I can also see them wondering why on earth I would want to work a part time weekend gig....

Any ideas, please?

Life Advice / Phone Help Motorola Droid Issues.
« on: April 06, 2016, 11:33:26 pm »
Ok, so I am having some problems with my phone and it's a little scary, especially with my crazy life right now. Any help would be very appreciated.

I'm pretty sure my phone is a Motorola Droid 4The problem started about 2 days ago and seems to involve the sliding keyboard and screen. It also seems to come in two, stages.

The Problem(s):
First, the phone goes totally dark with the slide out keyboard closed. Oddly, the phone will still respond to touch commands, like sliding the screen or even opening a program (if you can remember exactly where it is on the totally black screen!), and things like that. The problem is that the screen is black and you can't see what's on it. BUT as long as you have the sliding keyboard out, the phone seems to work ok ... for a while.

Second, then randomly, it seems like the phone will not show any image on the screen no matter if the sliding keyboard is in or out. The phone will still vibrate and take calls (on a totally dark screen you can't see).

What I've done so far:
If I press and hold the power button for a few seconds, then the phone will seem to reboot and the screen (at least with the sliding keyboard out) will show images and work alright as it does in the first stage described above. This seems like a temporary fix, and I'm scared to death it is a hardware issue

If anyone knows anything about this, then please help me out a bit with some insight. It would mean a great deal to me. Thank you.

Life Advice / Learning a new software system for (hopefully) a job.
« on: January 09, 2016, 02:55:30 pm »
I was lucky enough to get an interview with a trucking company for a back office position dealing with payroll and taxes and things like that. I've done some payroll before on ADP, but they use a completely different system. I thought ADP was the standard, but I guess not in trucking. They use:

TMW

The hiring guy seemed to really like me for the position and said he'd call me/very seriously consider me/talk to the owner about setting up a follow up interview.

I am worried about the differences in software packages, because I want to be able to get that under my belt fast if at all possible. Has anyone ever used this system or know of any type of tutorials online for it (preferably free)?

I am just dealing with some anxiety and yeah.... I would appreciate it a whole lot if anyone could consider helping me a bit here with learning this. Thank you.

Life Advice / How do you deal with rejection?
« on: December 15, 2015, 07:53:00 pm »
Like a lot of people, I'm looking for work and getting shot down by seemingly unfeeling HR. I've been told I'm overqualified, underqualified, ignored, whatever.

It's just a lot of rejection to take. It's times like these I'm glad I was never mean to any boy who ever asked me out or expressed interest in me, and that I went out of my way to be nice. I imagine it might be the same or a similar feeling to being turned down for a job you really want. Can't say that I'm entirely sure it's a spot on analogy but yeah. Perhaps I should have thicker skin, but at the moment it seems I don't.

I'm having a rather hard time dealing with rejection at the moment and would like a bit of advice concerning this topic if you'd be so kind? Have any of you got any good advice / experience dealing with something like this?

Life Advice / Help dealing with a disruptive brother's visit.
« on: May 08, 2014, 06:45:26 am »
One of my brothers is going to be paying a visit to our family home.

He's been gone out of state for 6 years. Total radio silence from him. There are several reasons I don't trust this jerk.

He is incredibly controlling, disruptive and rude. The last time he was here was a disaster. I can already hear him spouting off about how things need to be different (they can't be; it's the economy).

Dad can't find a job, because there are none, so instead he sells used cars on the side that he buys and fixes up. Mom, who has numerous mental problems I feel bad for her about, complains about this constantly. There's nothing to be done. Nobody is going to hire my almost 70 year old dad, even if there were jobs. No, it's not a steady paycheck, but it's what he can get. We're not destitute and she should be grateful for it, because a lot of people are.

I also can't find a decent job. I help dad with marketing cars, around the house etc and I don't even ask them for money while my own ship sinks. I live with mom and dad while helping them as much as I can and looking for work. Again, it's the economy....

I'm sure my brother will not be satisfied with any of this and will complain like crazy while he is here. He's going to come in here, stir things up, and then leave again for several years. He won't have to deal with the consequences of his stirring shit up, but me and my parents certainly will. Sure man, come right on in, tell us all how to live ' cause you're brilliant and we're all dumb as hell, then leave again.... [sigh]

It's no accident that he plans to come on Mother's Day, so he can capitalize on my mom missing her kid. This is the first we've heard of him in several years, nothing on Christmas, Thanksgiving, Mother's Day, Father's Day, nothing.... Not a phone call, not an email, nothing. Prior to that, he was a menace.

I'm planning to avoid him as much as possible, but it's a small house. He's going to wormtongue my mom and stir up all her mental problems and berate my dad for not having a job. He's going to bitch at both of them about why and how I suck; I'm sure. I'm sure he'll try it with me, but I'll tell him to screw off and make it clear I'm recording everything he says so he can spend some time in an out of state jail if he goes too far again. I'm planning on avoiding him, but it's mother's day, so most of my friends will be occupied with that, so....

How do I get through this? :(
