Although the body under my porch was supposed to be dead (I should know) so it didn't really turn out okay for me. Like, 25-to-life-violent-breakout-on-the-lamb-now not okay

The first place everyone looks is under the porch. I dissolve them in bile.

I mean, I would. If, you know... I had a dead body to dispose of. A situation I have never been in.

Might work.

If I remember correctly, empty cages either go into the animal stockpile or the furniture stockpile.

Remember: They don't make games to entertain you anymore - now they make games to get your money.

They always made games to get your money. They did (and still do) make them entertaining because that's the only way to make money in the entertainment industry.
It's the free market. Live it, learn it, love it. It's a very, very, very simple fact of economics; cutting quality for short term profit ALWAYS bites you in the ass. Short-term thinking in general bites you in the ass. For example, a company has a choice: either produce a product that is crap and sell it at a 50% profit margin, or produce a solid product at a 5% profit margin. Company A lasts about a year, Company B lasts for literally hundreds. See, the free market economy is self-regulating. If you don't pull your weight, you don't get your money. A company exists to produce goods and services which it exchanges for notes (dollar bills) of higher value in a positive-sum game. If they try to cheat the system, the system f***s them up by its very nature. Dishonest businessmen are stupid businessmen. Eventually, broke stupid businessmen.

Look at Valve. Every employee of Valve Software knows what he's doing. They PLAY games, not just make them, and they know what the consumer wants. They sell products over Steam for far less than stores because they know that they can sell more units at a lower profit per unit. They make ultra-high quality games that take years to craft because they know that people are willing to pay what the game is worth, and no more.

The TvTropes page for You Fail Economics Forever is a very interesting read. One of the most important explanations of economics is that the free market is a positive-sum game. When you trade money for goods, both parties end up with more than they started with. I'm not going to waste time explaining that here when it's already explained on TvTropes.

Still, it should be sort of obvious. SDL uses the SDL graphics library, Legacy doesn't. Simple.

Good thing you were playing DF, I guess.

I'm sad because its too hot here and theres to many people here to be pantsless.

Sadly, I can't wear Sandals or Shorts at either of my jobs, though... hairy legs aside, I've got to dress business casual for one, and deal with sharps and biohazards in the other.

Seems like any place that handles biohazardous materials would be kept relatively cold...
What sort of biohazards? Just random peoples blood or bioweapons?

Unless you plan on starting out like that, I guess it's possible to achieve. You would only start as a human, Mii'Ari, or Dolean though, so unless you manage some kind of quantum leap, you won't become a Stephinian.

Ehh... Sure you can't change that rule? Seems a bit arbitrary...

EDIT:

If not, can I trade in my Fate Point? Of course, if I did that, I'd need to come up with racial bonuses and such. Wasting useful items for useless ones is one of the ultimate illogics.

Screw pumps have always been fast though. The more you have, the faster it gets drained.

Yeah, but it seems rather odd that a single pump run by the fort's doctor who only got the job because he wasn't doing anything at the time can flash-flood the entire fortress while digging into a river floods ridiculously slowly...

If only someone had bothered to run the thing when I breached the HFS and wanted to use it as a "taking you down with me" sort of maneuver. Damn fort only last half an hour... DF is kind of boring after you play it a few times.

EDIT:
Also, is there an ETA on Core85 (adventurers building)? I'd take that over bugfixes (not gamebreaking ones of course, normal ones).

And if I had money, I would definitely give some to Toady. He's done a hell of a lot more than most programmers who get paid...

The mud requirement is certainly a lot of Fun. All the more reason to build a cistern though (just keep running the pumps after you've filled it and make that area your farm).

I haven't tested this version yet, but does anyone else think that screw pumps are just a bit too fast? A 10x10x5 cistern filled in less than a second, by the time I'd shut off the pump the cavern below was flooded as well (I'm very glad that my miners accidentally punched a hole into it when building the main staircase though, I have to remember to intentionally do that next time).

Sorry about the massive quantity of background information, but no part of the Stephinian mythos makes any sense at all (WTF why is the spaceship from Boston's cover art attacking our planet, and why does this guy shoot green sparks from his hands, and etcetera...) if you don't understand the big picture...

Also, he needs a better name (unless we can just call him Space Marine).

If it's okay, I think I'll go onto the waiting list.

For more amusing results, make it clone them half a second into the future as soon as they appear, so that they chronofrag themselves...

Like in Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, The Game. One of the ways you can **you have died** is to go into your brain and take out your common sense (you need to do so to allow you to have both tea and no tea at the same time to impress a door). If you don't move after doing this you telefrag yourself.
