Right, but you have (perhaps unintentionally) brought up another good point:

Why not strap a donkey to a pole on an axle and create a source of power? With (realistically) 2 dwarfs maintaining a few dozen of them, and a few dozen donkeys, you'd have a decent amount of power. Donkeys can pull something for a good 8 hours per day, and you'd put them in shifts.

Maybe we should be able to do that with dwarves as well, Conan-style. You saw what happened to Conan...

Declaring yourself an enemy of TOAST Industries will definitely get your arse kicked. Top three ways:

NUKM
The TOAST Industries Ultra Long Range High Accuraccy Atomic Exitation Turret (commonly referred to as the laser nuke)
TOAST's personal military.

Though with all the fragile fleshy things gone until NUKM is finished with the level boss, actually pissing off the TOAST computer systems would be surprisingly hard... though jumping around on rooftops and declaring that you claim a TOAST building might just annoy someone enough to forcefully volunteer you for extrasolar exploration duties... without a ship...

And yes, NUKM works for TOAST.

Actually, I can capture because the only enemy humans have left. The gang are allies, and robots don't count unless they come in the form of manned tanks/planes. And now I'm just gonna do a bit of mental maths...

20 divided by (6 of us * 2 because we're all unwounded -2 becuase the max is 10) makes 2, so it'll take me two turns to capture.

But the humans aren't enemies in the first place... Are you sure sentient robots don't count? And what happens if you "capture" a building?

P.S. Cronus is still shooting at you you know.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

I finaly found a use for the "Rubber Logs" I bought of the dwarf traders...

Sorry to disappoint you, but rubber logs come from a rubber tree, whose sap you'd use to make rubber... the logs themselves aren't actually rubber.

Which makes me want to add a reaction to the Alchemist's Workshop to make rubber...

What I really want to see are these three things: A: Magma-powered steam engines B: Propellers and C: Literally floating fortresses. See where I'm going yet?
That is called steampunk, and belongs in steampunk games.  Toady does not want to make a steampunk game - he has stated, himself, that he wants to stick around to a 1400s era tech base.

There's steampunk, and then there's steam power. Having steam engines doesn't automatically make something steam-punk, especially considering that we had steam power in real life....

I'm not even talking about a full steam engine. Just a ducted fan and some water over a pool of magma. Lemme draw a graphic...

Well actually, maybe it isn't so intuitive for a dwarf... but still, I'm not talking about a steam engine here, here's the dwarven thought process.

Water+magma=moving air (steam)
Moving air+windmill=power
Therefore, if I build a sideways windmill over a pool of magma and add water, I'll get power!

Something along those lines.

Actually, due to the fact that there are healing booths that we can use, it *is* already on out team, not merely an ally.

Also, considering that your mission is to prevent a fate worse than death for the whole simulated universe, you'll find that a lot of people want to help you.

Access to magma doesn't make a steam energy more practical. It's not as if humans ever had a problem with burning a whole bunch of wood/coal in order to accomplish something.

Except magma can provide a lot more heat for a far, far longer time. With magma, just having a ducted fan (which dwarves, who were supposed to have slightly more advanced technology than everyone else back then anyway should be able to build) and some water would give you a very small geothermal power plant, which should provide more than enough energy for anything Dwarves want to use.

What I really want to see are these three things: A: Magma-powered steam engines B: Propellers and C: Literally floating fortresses. See where I'm going yet?

Next you'll be telling me I can just dig to the edge of the map and the trade caravan will come in through a tunnel...

3174
Oh, and if I DO get a break to capture, can I get a free ladder? I want to stomp on it like in Advance Wars. That or a tele to the top... I don't really care, so lon as some stomping is done.

You can stomp all you want, but I doubt you'll achieve anything. You said the building has to have no units in it? There's a couple of robots in every building around here, I think they should count.

3175
When did we get outside? Also, aren't we under attack?

ExKirby is outside and under attack. Everyone else is underground and perfectly safe.

3176
Would there happen to be 19?  With a lie cake at the end?

I'm thinking around 3-5 for everyone and maybe an extra one for Frelock. Probably in a different facility though.

I might do this. Might. Small probability. Quite very small.

You say there's always magma if you go down far enough? You mean half-molten rock?

3178
Is it so hard to not post?

Actually, it is. It takes a lot of self-control to pass up on an argument, it's human nature.

Also, I point out the irony of your making a post entirely devoted to yelling at him. In a thread partially about there being too much yelling.

I'll take a jump at the upper area, and mid-leap set my gravity to 0%.

That won't quite work. The cliff is about ten times your height, I think you need to get a running start, then set gravity to zero at the same time you jump.

It'd be even cooler to run up to the back wall and jump off with zero gravity. You can also just set your gravity to 10% and do a super-long jump.

I'll interpret as "jump over using gravity tool". You could also use Inteuniso's cannon, but it has more than enough force to get you up there without 0G.

Actually, you could low-G yourself and have Inteuniso toss you over too.

I'll head to the end of the hallway and claim my reward, whatever that is.

Your reward is another test chamber. You didn't think that would be the only one, did you?

Where are you getting these laws from? I must familiarize myself and my creations with them... and their loopholes.

TOAST Industries Internal Code Rule [redacted]: No law made by any outside organization can be used to defend an action without proof that said law in fact exists. Any organization/organization member who has trouble with this should be referred to [redacted], TOAST armory master of thermonuclear weapons and other WMDs.

EDIT:

DAMNIT WHY DOES THE TOPIC KEEP LOCKING ITSELF ARGHHH
