Okay, thanks. I'll try to keep bone and wood restricted to training and maybe hunting, though. :P

Is it confirmed? So a copper crossbow firing copper bolts don't work at 2/3 x 2/3 = 4/9 but at 2/3 efficiency? This is MAJOR for me! :)

How can I add graphics for the new races of the mod? I'm ASCII-impaired sorry, I can't enjoy DF with Ascii symbols.

You'll probably need to hack together your own file or learn how to reference other graphics in the mods you're using; for example, steal beakdog sprites by copying the reference to their sprites into the entry for the beakwolf sprites. I'm extremely busy at the moment, so I'm holding off adding sprites until after graduation.

No problem I can try... But I failed to see how the game makes the connection between that

   [CHILD:1][GENERAL_CHILD_NAME:beak dog pup:beak dog pups]
   [CREATURE_TILE:'B'][COLOR:4:0:0]

and a sprite slot in a particular graphic file ... I guess I have to head for the wiki to learn that  :P

Well, soldiers in civilian mode should hold onto their weapons unless:
- you accidentally told them to in the schedule screen (m->s->u)
- or, more likely, they're miners or woodcutters.

Depending on how their training is set up, they may or may not be civilians when they have no active order, but unless one of the above applies, the main differences are that
- switching to civilian mode when the dwarf has no civilian skill above dabbling (i.e., they're a light blue 'Peasant') will give a unhappy thought, and switching back to a soldier when they don't have any military skills trained up (i.e., they're a dark grey 'Recruit') will do the same.
- only soldiers will use advanced training, such as sparing or teaching.  Civilians with an assigned barracks will only do "individual combat drills," training their primary weapon, or unarmed skills if they aren't holding a weapons (or, apparently, dodging if they're carrying crossbows, which was news to me).  This isn't necessarily a bad thing; individual combat drills can be lot more effective, especially for fresh recruits.
- and, of course, if they have any civilian labors assigned, they'll do them.
Also civilians will usually, if not always, flee enemies and will respond to the civilian alert level.


As for your side question, they usually only do that if you've somehow assigned multiple weapons to them.

Hi,

When you equip your dwarves, you can specify a particular piece of equipment... But the game still list the equipments already worn by others dwarves, so this render very difficult the identification. Any trick to still give to each dwarf what I want?

My military dorfs are thirsty... Some are with waterskins, yet nobody drinks... My questions are

1) will they break their station to drink on a nearby barrel, or never?

2) should I return them to civilian life so they drink?

Hi,

I have a dwarf restricted to a burrow, there is a ton of stones to haul to a stockpile, in the same burrow too. He haul stones as expected, but he also spams a lot of 'cancel job, items misplaced messages'. I guess he first try to target a stone outside the burrow, cancel it, then fall back to a stone within the burrow...

End result, he is working as expected without pausing, yet he generates a ton of messages...

Can I make a throne or statue in garnet, quartz, etc.? Or I need a stone and only that?

oh right, neat!

(1) And what would be the purpose of a chest? same?

(2) In the trade depot, I have only 2 items that are left, and no dorf want to stockpile them. 25 xbow bolts, and I have a weapon stockpile with space left. Also, a large pink jade gem... Where this one is stockpiled? I have a gem stockpile ... And what can I do of it once stockpiled?
