Hi. As part opf my feindish plans for the goblin invaders, I have dug a deep pit to throw them in. If I throw in wild animals, will they kill the goblins, or should I use war animals? (Dogs, Bears, Wolves, ect.)

Here we go, to my knowledge:
Axes: Ultimate slashing, limb remover
Swords: Great slashing, bashing, stabbing weapon. A great balanced tool.
Hammers/Maces: Blunt damage breaks bones, heads, necks, ect. I think maces do more damage, but don't quote me on that.
Crossbows: Ranged. Can be used in melee using the hammerer skill.
Spear: Great for stabbing, has a great chance of skewering organs. Can be used by newbie recruits, and still get occasional 1 hit kills.
Wrasslin': No weapons needed, great wrasslers can snap necks at extreme speeds.


That's it, to my knowledge. Besides picks. Those are brutal weapons when used by a legendary +5 miner.
In short: If you're wanting to bring stuff along on embark, I'd suggest spears, as they require little training.

Humans will avoid traps they have seen when they were at peace with you, and elves are ambushers.

So what your saying, is that if the humans fight me, The magma mist generator over the entrance isn't a bad idea?

If you need some excitement in the meantime, try to get the humans to go to war with you. I'd say elves too except they are infuriatingly hard to anger in the current version due to the lack of a treecutting quota to violate.
I've had similar problems.  The past three games I've played have had no ambushes until about the 3rd or 4th year, though fairly common snatchers and thieves.  Expect them eventually!  You could fight FBs in the meantime.  Or go for HFS.

No FBs yet. (100 dorfs) I don't want to go for the HFS until I have more than 5 military dorfs.

Oh, and no Hummies. And elves... well.... hm. Are they TRAPAVOID? No? Muahahahahhaha.

Hello. I want to be attacked. I've not seen any goblin ambushes in three years. Nor have I ever. However, there is a Goblin Civ listed (Gonem "The Plated Jackals") With a single Macegoblin listed. Shouldn't they atleast send snatchers? All I seem to get is kobolds.

DF Suggestions / Apothecary: Dwarven Pharmacy

Hello. Today I'd like to describe my Ideas on the thoughts of Dwarven medicine. Some example "potions" are detailed below. The reason for this suggestion, is quite simply, infections and the like cannot be cured, to my knowledge. (Another unrelated thought is a button on ever dwarf's preferences/wounds page for getting diagnosed.)

Examples:
Golden salve: Cures, and slowly reverses rotting flesh.
Antibiotics (For infections), Poison cures of different types, Paralysis etc.

Bad news everyone! The surgery, cleaning, ect. Was completed before I could make soap. He's now up and walking around, in the direction of the booze stockpile. Will he get infected guaranteed? This guy is my best military dorf. He's got about as many killed as the rest of them combined.
Also, when do they remove sutures/splints?

Okay, I just decided to send my squad out to own them. It worked, mostly. Until I decided to make them attack a herd of Draltha for combat XP. Somehow, one of them ripped my Hammer Dwarf's chest open, and broke his left hand, making him drop his hammer. Being the badass he is, he BIT THE DRALTHA'S LEG OFF, and then began limping for the hospital. Will he survive? He's not bleeding, but he is in extreme pain, pale, and constantly losing consciousness.
His stats are:
"He is Mighty, very agile, rarely sick, and quick to heal"
"His Second Finger, right hand is broken. His second finger, right hand is smashed open. His Upper Body is Torn open. His left hand is broken. His left wrist is broken."
"Pale -- Ability to grasp somewhat impaired"
"Pale -- Extreme Pain -- Unconscious"

Do you have soap? Threads? Docors? His chest has been ripped open after all...

Threads, yes, Chief Med dwarf, yes, Suturer, yes, Diagnostician, yes, But no soap. Do you still need clear glass vials for soap making workshops like in 40d?

Hello. I have a bit of a troglodyte.... problem. They're just too many of them. My Crack squad militia can only take on so many at a time. (Even with the Martial Recruit) What should I do? Also: Trolls. Several trolls. And other things. My main question, is, should I risk sending a hammer dorf, two spear dorfs, and the Martial Axe Recruit into the caves and risk their death at the hands of 20 trogs and 6 trolls?
Also, I have an open path to a lower cavern level. Should I send them down there to fight the Giant Toads I've seen down there?

Ps: The Martial Axe Recruit causes Martial Trance spam. Seriously, he's kinda creepy. Four kills to his name: I think that's more than the rest of my Militia, too. Even a Dwarf kill on that list from a failed mood berserker.

For my two cents, I always rely on Fishing over farming. With three fisherdwarves, You get more food than you'll ever need, providing you have a river. For booze, I just have my crack team of herbalists scour the countryside for longland grass and the like.
Though, all of this is mainly because my farm area flooded with 7/7 water. Meh.
