I made all of my idlers Engravers. They are working on smoothing all of my 6 wide hallways. Keeps them busy.

I didn't even know that breaching hell and surviving was even possible, I thought the demons were infinite.... What did it take to kill them? Did you have to mod the dwarves to be like BCs or something?

River creatures don't migrate from off-map.
They did in 40d... Fish such as Salmon, for instance.

Perhaps you, the DF Junkies of the forums, can help out a semi-inexperienced player with some random questions?

Do Sneaking Kobolds/Goblins get spotted when they are one tile over from an Animal, or only when they actually collide?
Can you have wells directly over one another?
Are hippos the Blood thirsty animals that the wiki says?
Are Elephants still BoatMurderesque? As in, blood thirsty carnivores? Or is it safe to capture them and tame them?
Are hippos worth catching and breeding?
Will carp appear inside my handmade reservoirs?
If a river has no carp to begin with, will they ever?
Are Stingray Dangerous?
Can Flying/Swimming units move Up and over in one turn if the space above them is solid?
Should Elves be allowed inside the Fortress?

On the subject of booze and farming.
I always have trouble in my forts with farming/brewing. Should I grow a crop in huge quantities for nothing but Booze? (example: Sweet Pods) I always have trouble balancing Plump helmet supply for eating, Plump Helmet supply for Brewing, and barrel supply. Also, can you grow Plants on dry stone, or must it still be muddied? If so, how do I make a good irrigation system?

Also, what should I bring on Embark/What skills should my dorfs have?

It's currently genning a new world. Does anyone have any tips for fortress design? I always want my fortresses to look cool, but they always end up sprawling everywhere, just a mish-mash of rooms here and there, not very sightly I must say. I usually delve into the mountain without much forethought.
Oh, also, does anyone have any tips as far as entrances go? just going straight into the ground isn't very decorative. (In the back of my mind, I want every fortress to be like UnderGrotto) Also, has trading animals been fixed since 31.03? There was an.... incident with a blind cave ogre in my best fortress once... I'd not like a repeat.

Also, what materials are best for armor and weapons? I heard that silver hammers are especially good in 31.12, but what about slashing weapons? And armor? Is steel still the equivalent of wearing Kraft singles?

Or at least, planning to. I'm really rusty, at the moment, so I ask you, the DF junkies, Where I should put a fortress for getting me back into things? I think I disables Aquifers last time I played, so they aren't an issue.
More than anything though, Can somebody run over the essentials for me? Like, trading, military, etc? Any help is appreciated.

I'll let you all keep debating if you see fit. For my two cents...
I don't believe achievements take away gameplay at all. I mean, it's not like I'm trying to get all of the achievements on my first go through the game... Anyway.

I've always viewed HL2 as more of a FPS Puzzler. Not strictly FPS, because, really, what strictly FPS game has you shifting blocks from one side of a wooden board to the other to gain access to a new area.

As for the breaks in activity for "cut scenes" It's to address a problem VALVe calls "Combat fatigue." The same for Puzzle fatigue. They need these scenes to prevent players from "burning out" from repetitive gameplay. ex: Shoot headcrab, solve puzzle. Shoot combine, solve puzzle, shoot antlion, solve puzzle. ect. The talking scenes break it up so it's not simply two or three gameplay types.

That's my two cents.
In other news, I got the "Zombie Chopper," "Keep off the sand," and "Submissive" Achievements since my last post here. Next up, Hack attack, then, the groan-tacular Lambda locator.

I think I'll reload an earlier autosave. My latest one has a fast zombie right below me on the ladder up from the cistern.  Kinda makes grabbing extra stuff impossible. though, the door advice helps. Thanks for trying. Anyone else got something?

EDIT:
Status update: reloaded from when I got the shotgun, realized I had 3 radiators piled up. Lost one killing zombies, tossed the other two over.Those should help alot....

Edit again:

Thanks to a radiator, an a cinderblock, I got into the elevator safely. And I took the radiator with me. But now, the games begin. any tips for the rest of Ravenholm?
