I see. OK, likely no hyperinflation in the good old U S of A (just the regular kind), but should give money when I can.

Considering wages never rise, there's probably still some sort of economic crisis coming to the states.  Money machine can't go brrr forever.

There's actually been a very distinct uptick in wages at the lower end of the marketplace. A lot of people are simply refusing to work for their old pay even when they lose the unemployment boosts.

I've more seen this as a lot of min. wage jobs going unfilled, while those same employers shrugging and going "why won't people apply?" and avoiding the wage question as much as possible.  To them, it's the job seekers who are wrong.

Like my parents always complain about not finding people to hire (for an engineering firm) and I always half jokingly ask, "Have you tried paying more?"  They always reply their wage is already competitive, whatever they think that means.

I don't have a Switch, also I read the PC version at least is not cross platform which sucks since no one I've ever met in meatspace uses anything but consoles for video games so I'd have to use a controller to play them in non pandemic times. I just use a keyboard, though I had to buy a cheapo keyboard for now until I fix or have fixed the wire that came loose on my better one. Let me tell you, this keyboard SUCKS for this game because the keys are really damn stiff, I mess my hat throw all the damn time because of the right arrow being stiff unless I hit it at the right angle of keystroke.

Most fighting game dudes I know of (on youtube) favor an arcade stick controller, like the stick and buttons on an arcade cabinet.  That said most of them grew up in the early days when arcade cabinets was basically all there was, so there you go.

That said, keyboard for fighting games can get pretty brutal.  I tried Skullgirls that way and it wasn't great.  MK is probably more doable as special moves are discreet directions as opposed to street fighter "motions," also combos being more bufferable.  I'd rather use a gamepad.

But yeah, the switch version is like the PC's lowest settings, yet also has a poor, choppy framerate.  Like I thought bad ports was a thing of the past but apparently not.  I might scrounge together the dosh for a PC or PS4 copy but I dunno, maybe wait for a sale.

Really governors should follow your government type.  So if you're democratic they're voted in by election just like the main ruler, or if you're monarchy maybe they're royal family or in line for the main throne.

Speaking of leaders, for my megacorp I named the leader's title as "Final Boss" so I get messages like "The Final Boss died" or whatever.

but the hidden irony of SimIsle is that you can make the argument that the best thing the player could do at game start leave the damn island and villagers alone.

as I kid I never figured out how to do anything else :/

The switch port was insultingly bad

If we're talking healthcare for what is basically an arbitrary group of people, why not just healthcare for all at that point?
That'd be better, sure. It's not an arbitrary group, though. If we're going to call folks essential and warrant it okay to throw them onto the front lines of a pandemic, they probably deserve something better than (less than) minimum wage for it.

They probably deserved better before there was a plague, but here we are.  Everyone deserves better from the self-proclaimed richest, most powerful country in the world, but here we are.

Its exactly like veterans.  We like to point at veterans and call them heroes but don't want to talk about ugly shit like shell shock or worse.  Yet we insist on waving the "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" slacktivism flag, because americans love the concept of a strong military and swinging the big stick but don't want to pay the human price.

'Essential Workers' was the exact same propaganda.  We get to call them big heroes and be proud of them.  Do heroes get paid?  No.  Do heroes get taken care of?  No.  We call them essential because we don't want to use the real, ugly term: expendable.

Anyways here's a 1,200$ stimulus check that fell off the back of an army budget truck, give it to your favorite rich guy.

Imagine if having dead inspection stickers on your car was a life or death situation, not because your car might be unsafe, but because the cop who pulled you over about them is paranoid you might be packing more heat than him.

because, you know, the US takes great care of its veterans.

I wanna see a CPU with pointless instructions. For instance, a sin(x) instruction that only allows integer x, and outputs only integers, rounding randomly. x is still in radians. A "vector" multiplication instruction that only operates on 1-dimensional vectors. A floor(x) instruction that only works on integer x.
Youuu should look into this game called TIS-100.  Its an odd programming puzzle game that uses assembly in some sort of multi cell/core architecture.  Each puzzle is about making the machine do different operations.  Like you had a grid of CPUs that can run in parallel, but each one only holds a handful of instructions and only two memory slots, so complex operations required multiple working together and passing values around.

I remember getting stuck on one about determining if random numbers were prime or not.

I'll admit, doctors provide a much more convincing masquerade about how they exist to help people, over the police.

I worry about the accumulating apathy though.  There's rumors and also announcements (in pfizer's case) of needing booster shots, and I have serious doubts you can motivate people to get them.
