Other Games / I forgot the name of this game... please help.
« on: April 04, 2011, 02:24:00 am »
It's a post-apocalptic sort of game where the landscape is filled with mutants, and you are fighting in some large city.

You start with some squad members who get powers like pyrokinesis and invisibility and healing and super strength.

You can recruit soldiers or police or sometimes civilians into your ranks.

You can call for supply drops, but they will arrive somewhere in enemy infested zones so you gotta fight to get your stuff.

IIRC this game was published circa 1999.

You fight mainly by using guns.

Edit: Nevermind. I got it, it's abomination the nemesis project

At the moment, Conservative Sleeper lawyers start with 30-40% effectiveness. And Liberal lawyers start with ABYSMAL effectiveness.

Really, this should be higher. While I understand that a Hanging Judge should have higher effectiveness in say stealing stuff or affecting issues than a mere lawyer, the current system makes liberal sleeper lawyers near useless and even turned conservatives have too low a chance of defending you.

Also, it just takes TOO LONG for those conservative lawyers to hit 100% effectiveness!  I dunno about you, but I know a lot of people prefer to only "activate" their sleepers once they reach 100% effectiveness. With most jobs, this can be accomplished by just focussing on the super conservatives who start off with high effectiveness.

Also, hey, you can get police officers (not even Death squads!) who start off with 70% effectiveness. Surely it makes sense for a lawyer to be just as effective?

Also... unlike a lot of other sleeper types, getting a sleeper lawyer is "fundamental".  It's pretty much an integral part of a good LCS game.

I was thinking that the lawyers should get similiar starting effectiveness as the police. 70-ish seems good to me for conservative lawyer.

Again, unlike other professions for sleepers, judges and lawyers are BOTH needed by the LCS. Whereas for Eminent Scientist and Lab Assistant, you can get either one, or they fulfil the same role, it's just that the ES is better than the LA.  Judges and lawyers play different roles.

Also, I'd like to add another suggestion. Currently, when you are being pursued as you leave the scene OR when you force your way out of a siege in the current version, when you kill enemies, no loot drops on the ground, nor can you pick up what the enemies had. This is rather irritating, as this fallen loot would often be some good stuff. Some people might not find this a problem as they are swimming in money and firearms and stuff anyway. But, heck, I'm greedy, and I'm also practical: why should the LCS leave all the spoils of war on the ground, when they can TAKE it and make LIBERAL use of it?

Curses / Suggestion: New areas to make recruiting less grindy.
« on: March 23, 2011, 05:25:37 pm »
I think we should streamline the recruiting process by making areas which are more likely to spawn certain individuals. For instance, when you want to recruit dancers, yoga instructors, athletes, for a "fighting" squad (melee or shooting or whatever), you should be able to head to the local GYM, where all these types hang out. Similiarly, if we want to recruit programmers, the local IT firm should be good.
Would being able to hire these people at your convenience make the game easier? Undoubtedly. But from a logical standpoint, if you're looking to recruit a certain groupset, you go to the area where they are predominant. From a gaming perspective, pressing "S" until you have an encounter, hit Right if there isn't someone you want, tap "s" lots of times, repeat ad nauseaum... that's just painful and irritating.
Actually, I feel similiarly regarding the kidnapping of high profile individuals. There should be a Judge's Chambers, News Anchors room, all these sort of things where you are guaranteed to find one of these fellas. But other than the CEO, leave the wandering guys in. So, from a logical standpoint, instead of the LCS deciding "we shall launch a mission to kidnap a Radio Personality! ... ok, we'll just wander around the corridors of the local Radio Station until we bump into one" it's more like "ok, first, we kidnap and convert someone who works here... now the janitor gives us a map and the schedule for the place, we go kidnap our target who will be in his dressing room at this time of day" ... well, unless of course "at the end of the corridor turn right and... oh, hang on, I just bumped into RP 2, who is an equally famous Radio Personality, I'll just kidnap him instead" occurs.

Actually, I don't think that putting these in will make the game any easier... it just makes things less Grindy and Monotonous. If someone wants to recruit XXXX or kidnap XXX badly enough, he will get them... eventually. It just involves a lot of time staring at the screen tapping the S key until an encounter occurs, and hoping it's the correct encounter.

Curses / Siege suggestion.
« on: March 20, 2011, 01:51:34 pm »
How about, if you have some conservative hostages, you can actually HOLD THEM HOSTAGE?

:)

One way to "force" a police siege is to threaten to kill one hostage every hour, this should draw a SWAT raid immediately instead of having execution after execution. Right?

Curses / Maxing skills?
« on: March 31, 2010, 05:11:50 pm »
So, weapon skills are pretty self explantory. But how do I max out skills like science and religion? I got a lot of it by converting a priest and a eminent scientist, and having them teach. But how to raise the rest of the way? I don't think the shiny red button works past a certain lvl. Does talking to someone work to grind these past their own skill? (like if priest has 8 religion, can I get more than 9 religion talking to him?)

Curses / The advantage of NOT placing Tank Traps
« on: March 31, 2010, 01:34:58 am »
Advantages:
Pathing Issues!!!
Tanks invading your base will result in smashed walls! Which... lead to soldiers wandering all over your base and stumbling into traps all over the place.

Disadvantages:
You have to face tanks. Which are actually not that dangerous, just very invulnerable. Actually good for training up weapon skills.
Tanks seem to destroy traps.

Solution:
For best results, don't put in tank traps at first. After they've crushed most of the walls of your base, THEN you put in the tank traps. This makes base defence a real sinch, since you will find it really easy to engage only the trapped soldiers, which will be numerous and conveniently situated.

Note: If you follow this strategy, forget about any money issues from this point forth. I refused to move out of my base, and have just made 600k from selling M16s and ammo. I think you earn over 15k per base defence. And it's FAST and ungrindy, unlike apartment robbing.
Edit: That's just for selling the M16s. If you repair and sell the Army Body Armor, that doubles your earnings to like 30k per base defence?

Curses / What does skill 138/4 mean in LCS?
« on: March 30, 2010, 01:01:35 pm »
OK, I get the 138 part means that I have a total of 138 skill points... but what does the second number mean?

BTW, my new ambition is to master as many skills as possible with my founder... he can then go teach them to everyone else. Heh heh heh.

Curses / Something cool about converted Agents in LCS.
« on: March 22, 2010, 05:42:49 am »
note that to do this, you must bring an Agent over to your side via Persuasion or Seduction... a guitar squad makes this much easier. Or you could try to get 20 in either stat.
The reason: Enlightened cannot recruit.

Anyhow, an agent that is brought over to the LCS via these methods *keeps their juice*! So, a converted agent can immediately recruit that month. Due to the population of the Ministry of Love building, the chances are almost 100% that this sleeper will recruit ANOTHER AGENT... who will also have (200?) juice.
This leads to a chain reaction where you can end up with over 100 sleeper Agents in under a year game time, all stemming from your one original agent.

DF Gameplay Questions / How do you win Dwarf fortress?

Or does it just go on forever?

Curses / How does age effect stats in LCS?
« on: March 19, 2010, 12:26:20 pm »
All the way from 7 years old to... how old is the maximum age before you die? I assume the longest lived character would be a mutant with 20 health? ... can you get any characters younger than 7 years old? ... how do dogs and genetic monsters age?
I'm also interested in the effects of juice... Does age effect the "base" stats or is it a modifier? Does juice effect the base or the age modified figure?

Curses / Strange self imposed challenges in LCS.
« on: March 18, 2010, 11:55:32 am »
What weird games have you played (and won?) in LCS? Please do tell!

Currently I am playing a "Fagin" character... all his recruits are 10 year old child workers! (you need to start on conservative nightmare mode for this) If I get someone with high agility, I'm going to name him the Artful Dodger.

Of course, being a coward, Fagin will not step outside to influence the issues or gain money himself, oh no, he will send out his children to do the dirty work for him...

Difficult? You bet your arse it is. Fagin will never gain any juice since he stays at home all the time, nor will he do anything useful. The children... start with ABYSMAL stats in many areas... I hope their stats improve as they grow older... oh, and children obviously cannot seduce anyone.

Curses / Have you ever *changed* laws in LCS individually?
« on: March 17, 2010, 10:05:12 am »
OK, we all know how to influence issues. But how is the process of changing laws determined?

To me, it seems that it is not really possible to flip individual laws? Because the supreme court and senate and house will not vote Liberal for those individual laws if they themselves are conservatives?

So, what happens is that you pretty much have to get all issues green, so that the elections go to the liberal party and you get a liberal president and liberal supreme court, who will then change the laws?

Curses / How much driving skill does it take to outdrive an Agent?
« on: March 12, 2010, 12:30:15 pm »
I ask because I often find myself being chased by completely unshakeable agents in their uber black sports cars. Despite having 4-5 driving and a Sports Car, I can never shake them off.
How much driving skill do you need to outrun them in a sports? ... how about in the other cars?

Curses / I can't make gun violence issue improve?
« on: March 08, 2010, 12:04:07 am »
Normally, I don't have to do anything, this issue moves by itself. Unfortunatly, this game, I was playing with martial artists who beat up everything bare handed, now gun control is only 40%, and I run around shooting people, but gun control still isn't moving up. How do I change this?

Curses / Who do you hire as fighters in LCS?
« on: March 07, 2010, 04:14:56 am »
Other than canine heroes and Agents, who do you guys use as your fighting force? My problem is I don't currently HAVE a decent fighting force... can't find many worthwhile people, just hiring stacks of hippies, slaves, and sweatshop workers, and hoping the RNG gives me something decent. OUCH.
