Other Games / Re: Remember Tomorrow - an indie 4x space strategy game

As luck would have it, I stumbled upon option 2 by blind chance. Currently employing the age old tactic of mass colonisation of most of a galactic arm having closed it off at 2 choke-points. Soon I shall explore the military options at my disposal once my small empire has built up the means of production to support a war machine. All is very good so far.

Played through the tutorial just fine, and started a new game. Enjoying it so far - though as someone who has played a lot of 4X I am probably already quite clued up with what is going on. One question though - I did a little close range exploring with my starting corvette, and managed to strand it one system away from home through a lack of fuel. Clearly this ship is not designed as a scout, and should have known better than to be so eager to get out into the stars. How would I go about recovering it?

I also see tuypo got themselves banned. Did they go off the deep end or something while I was not looking? I mean, the individual in questions posts were dire and almost unreadable, but hardly what I would call trolling or offensive in any way.

Afghan is not located in Europe, though.

Does it have to be? I mean, when Russia/USSR invaded there, it bit off more than it could chew and retreated with its tail between its legs, like everyone who ever invaded the place has had to. Just goes to show that Russia is more than capable of defeating itself.

I thought your countries were democracies? That the people's will is something which is listened to? Or is it just a lie?

Not sure what the propaganda you are being fed is saying, but nobody in the west wants a war with Russia, and not a single leader is pushing for one - a war simply would not gain anyone votes. What we want is for Russia to leave the situation in Ukraine alone, as naive and futile such a hope is.

What makes you think Russia will not defeat itself by involving itself in shady interventions and eventually biting off more than it can chew? A few thousand Russian troops in Ukraine is small potatoes compared to other geopolitical issues currently at the forefront of the minds of those making decisions, compared to Iraq/Syria/ISIS and Israel/Hamas. As for historical precedent, out of little more than vanity it broke itself during the cold war - is this history starting to repeat itself? The Afghan war is another such example.

It may be - all that depends on how far Russia will push its luck, and how much it takes for the leadership of NATO/EU/USA to start giving a shit.

I honestly think that Russia/Putin will not go all "mad eastern landgrab" and that the current situation is one of opportunism rather than anything. I think that the relevant leaders also assume or at least hope this. Nobody wants a large, long drawn out war - all sides know this. Russia, or at least the current leadership regime, will be the loser if it does incur the ire of the west, and they damn well know it so will stop short of direct provocation, hence all the current cloak and dagger support of the rebels within Ukraine.

Sergarr, as you quoted it, I know you read Frumple's post in the US politics thread. It sums up quite nicely why the EU or US has done nothing overt yet. Nothing has occurred that truly makes us care enough yet. The US/NATO/EU not caring is probably not a good thing, but at this moment in time, other than maybe making things worse, what else could come of any form of intervention?

If it is an invasion, it is a piss poor one. Its more likely a rebel assault with more Russian support than normal.

I am downloading this as I type, and really hope it lives up to my expectations, which have been driven very high.

What is your long term plan for this game, regarding its release etc? I would hate to play this early alpha then find myself expected to drop large amounts of cash on it when finished... :P

Pretty much every strategy game ever does something like that though, tbh. Civ3 was a blatant and disappointing example - instead of giving you harder or easier opponents, the difficulty levels changed core game mechanics. Playing on the 3rd difficulty level gave a level playing field - anything above that stacked things in the AI favour, and below in your favour.

So the evil internal affairs departments that come down on any officer even slightly stepping out of line as portrayed in tv/film do not really exist? Or do they exist but are they as corrupt and ineffectual as other US policing efforts?

DF might not be the game for you.

Have you tried hanging on to a door in the ocean and hoping for the best?

All those Cubans can't be wrong!

The north/south divide still seems pretty clear to me. As for probable outcome... well, that depends which side is "legitimate" and can retain control of the majority of the US army, air force and navy. I suspect that would be the "northern" faction.
