ARISE O THREAD. THROUGH THINE WILL I BIND THEE ONCE AGAIN TO CORPOREAL FORM TO CARRY THINE MESSAGE YONDER INTO THE DARKLING SKIES.

So had a thought recently about a country with a split-tier currency, one reserved entirely for necessities, one for luxuries and controlled substances. Feasibility? Either nowish or in space-sovia.

Had an amusing headclip of two executives complaining over a lobster dinner at how difficult it is to get protein bars on their salary.

Not overly feasible, as there would inevitably be some kind of exchange mechanism between the two either directly or indirectly, rendering the whole thing rather pointless. 2 financial systems running in parallel would also have a huge redundancy issue. All in all, the drawbacks to me seem to outweigh the risks.

Isn't it obvious? Now they have a scotland, northern ireland, and london referendum to win! If anything they have more work now! Independence for all of the things!

UKIP would be ideologically opposed to any break up of the UK. They would fight tooth and nail to not let Scotland go and to keep it out of the EU. They would fight to keep NI away from RoI. They would fight against London getting devolved status. They would fight against Wales, Cornwall, or any other part of the UK being anything other than part of good old Blighty.

This will be their job in the short to medium term future.

Is it not utterly hypocritical for UKIP to oppose the EU on the basis of self-determination, while rejecting self-determination for British people who don't want to be part of the UK?

They do not see the two as the same. They see the UK as an entity to be preserved and protected. Eu membership threatened that, just as successions would.

Pixel dungeon is an enjoyable timekiller, and as it is open source, there are multiple forks - one will probably satiate any need for roguelike dungeon crawling you may have.

Where is the evidence?

... what is it you are asking for evidence of?
Is there any factual basis for most of the claims being made about the future of the British economy? Most of what I have seen from the experts looks like bluff. I am actually open to evidence, so if you have some I will look into it.

... you want factual evidence that will tell you how future events for a system that in inherently chaotic will unfold when the events themselves are unprecedented, and you are dismissing the predictions of experts as bluff?  What exactly are you expecting anyone to offer you?

Someone way more well versed in macroeconomics than I no doubt could go into way more detail.

if we'd be playing fantapolitik, I'd say they may go as far as getting some bad agreement for leaving and referendum that to try and stop the exit.

now the question is will be europe smart enough to use this as a stick to bring the gb into the eurozone and shengen?

Erm, you do realise that a fear of the Euro and of Shengen were 2 big factors in making the UK leave? The UK wants to leave. The state of UK politics is that our government would take a shit leaving deal above being blackmailed to stay in while accepting the very things that made people want to leave.

In other news, Brexit has wiped $2 trillion off the global stock markets, making it already as expensive as the entire Iraq war. Pretty impressive considering the UK's GDP is only around $2.75 trillion.
So what?

Not everyone considers what could be argued is a form of "economic suicide" (which had fair warning, too) a price worth paying in order to attain some of the claimed benefits of leaving the EU (some of which have already been dismissed by those who earlier proposed them - rendering it a rather absurd situation where the cost will return literally nothing).

YMMV.

I would honestly love to see The UK to turn back into Britain.

I honestly don't know why Scotland, North Ireland, and Wales put up with it beyond dependency and tradition at this point.

Reason highlighted for you. That is a pretty damn big reason.

It isn't like Britain respects them (well maybe Wales)

Westminster cares not for anything other than England, alas, with little more than lip service.

Zahir found himself increasingly suspicious of the woman. Something in her words started to make him feel something was... off about her.

"As I said, I'm up here looking for work, not that I do any at the moment. Now if you don't mind could you please leave. I'd rather not be drawing attention, and two earthers is only going to make the...things here curious and I'd prefer to not have to deal with them as much as possible."

Oh... sorry to have bothered you. Just trying to be polite. See you around, maybe.

OCOS found the paranoia of the pureform most vexing. Most probable cause of this was some institutionalised mistrust of any and all outsiders. She chalked it up to experience, and uploaded a small data packet detailing her musings on said Earthborn mistrust. It might only be of minor use to other unit, but every little helped. She also logged an entity of interest post on a secure operative data stream, just in case the individual she attempted to exchange pleasantries with showed up in proximity to any interesting events For the tiniest fraction of a second she contemplated bugging him, but as the man in question was barely worthy of the name "asset", she dismissed the impulse as quick as it arrived.

Time to change tack. If she could not find anything of interest, she would have to let the interest come to her. OCOS walked away feigning a loss of dignity, heading to the nearest dock area in order to scope out any interesting outgoing vessels worth lingering by.

Work? Yeah, me too. Well, not really work, more of a vocation I suppose. You would best describe me as a student, with my field of interest being off world sociology. Its so much more... chaotic than back home. Free form, if you will. My directors want to know as much as they can about who and/or what are out here. Why, I have no idea, and the pay stinks, but that chance to see the system was too good to pass up. Oh, look at me, waffling... so, what about you? What line of work are you in? No, don't tell me, some kind of exotic smuggler, right?

"Oh, sorry!... oh, wow, hi there! The last thing I expected to find out here was another pure form. I have gotten so used to seeing nothing but these... mongrels of meat and metal over the last few weeks. So, what brings you all the way out here? Anything fun?

OCOS-998's mind thrived in chaotic and complex interlinked environments like the Ark. Her subroutines worked through entire sets of situation predictors, probability analyses and threshold sensitive models, looking for what a human mind would call an "interesting" collection of variables. Each set of analysis kept homing in on one thing as a highly promising opportunity. Amongst the bustle of mongrel organic, hybrid, and synthetic sentients, the human that nigh on perfectly matched a template OCOS held to as "standard" stood out as an anomaly - save for her own deceptive appearance, of course. Anomalies were interesting. Interesting things led to information of value. The "standard" was a stranger here. From the surface, almost certainly. But why? What was their goal? Where were they going? These questions needed answers, and they would no doubt be very interesting. The surface dweller could do with a friend...

Engineer a casual introductory interaction with the Earthborn. Look to discover its short term goals, and suggest travelling together for company/mutual protection/assistance
