DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: April 02, 2010, 05:49:04 pm »
just recovered from what I had thought was a hunger strike. A bunch of dwarves were hungry, but refused to eat. as it turns out, I had accidentally channeled out their accessway to the the food at some point. I built a bridge, and like a mighty wave they all rushed off to the food stockpile conveniently located on top of the aboveground hospital.

I now have some items with no material, for instance, a goblet. In the description it says "This is a goblet" with no material listed. it is also a no quality item...

my dwarves appear to be having some sort of kinky strip party in my dining hall... I have no dwarves being trained atm, the barracks is far away, and yet there are piles of clothes littering my dining room. there are sufficient stockpiles for clothing and the like, so I can only assume they belong to the dwarves... why they aren't wearing them, I haven't the foggiest.

Edit: Also, my craftsdwarf's workshop for some reason has the task to "make Unknown material crafts"  It isn't getting worked on, and it appears to be blocking other tasks, but I'm gonna try and get a screenshot....how to i get screenshots again?

had an encounter with crundles left me with three dead, one of which was my expedition leader, and I now seem to be unable to appoint new nobles. the only ones I have show up under [n] are the broker and chief medical dwarf, who are thankfully alive and well. is this a bug?

Trying to figure out what to do with the twenty something crundles I've captured. Also, trying to figure out what to do with some of the new materials. Horse hair. What am I supposed to do with horse hair?

not sure if this is a bug or not, but so far raccoons are no longer tame-able. Waiting to catch something else to see if anything else is no longer tame-able

I've come across something strange while building an above ground hospital.
This:

##D##
#XXX#   #=wall    D= door   X=stairs
DXXXD
#XXX#
##D##

was the only access, but even though the doors weren't forbidden or anything, the dwarves refused to path through them. Makes invasions a little more interesting, but otherwise not a big deal.

definitely dwarf fort. Time splitters and super smash bros ate up some time back in the day, but dwarf fort, ironically, dwarfs them all.

Reading a very dwarfy book aptly titled "The Dwarves" by Markus Heitz. According to a Boendall Hookhand the way to a dwarf girl's hart is to, in order;

Make eyes at her

Sing her a song

Give her a hand-forged ring

kiss her feet

cover her in a nice thick coating of her favorite cheese

swing her four times in a circle

and then you can "Open the gates to her Girdlegard", Girdlegard being a famous dwarven fortress.

Thought that merited sharing.

ITS OFFICIAL! the great one himself said windows release is expected in about a week!

Ah, I should say that I was talking about 17 releases over a short period being a bandwidth problem.  I think a release a week will probably be okay as long as I've got a few mirrors working.  I'm not really sure, since we haven't had a delay this long for this many people before.

If you're talking about that ^ post, then he was talking about how frequently releases will come AFTER the DF2010 release, not when the 2010 release would be. If that's not the case, then where did you here this? I must know!

Edit: Gah! My devlog won't update for some reason. Nevermind.

Dwarf Fortress: Elf; it's what's for dinner.

and now, time for sing along dwarf songs!

"Oh give me a home, where the dwarf children roam, and the elves and the goblins get flayed! Where seldom is heard a single sober word, and the prisoners are tortured all day!

Home, home in the fort...."

"This land is my land, this land ain't your land, from the fortress battlements, to the magma cannon!"

The ballad of Urist McAxedwarf;
"Oh, say can you see by the magma's dim light
What so proudly we hailed as Urist McAxedwarf ran screaming?
Whose broad shoulders and bright axe thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly heaving?
And the magma's red glare, the goblins exploding in gore,
Gave proof through the night that McAxedwarf was still there.
Oh, say does that crazy dwarf's axe yet wave
O'er that pile of bones and the goblin leader's grave?"

Least favorite book? Twilight saga. Never read the books, I hate them on principle. If you're gonna jump on the vampire bandwagon, do it right, dammit. If you're gonna make something that is emo, gay (or at least bisexual), and that sparkles in the sunlight, call it something else. For more reasons to hate the book, see any of the various Twilight drinking games. This one's my personal favorite, spoilered just because.

The Great Gatsby takes an honorable mention for worst book. I actually enjoyed the book until my English teacher ruined it with symbolism. White dress? Symbolism. Nice car? symbolism. Clock? symbolism. Ivy? Symbolism. Tuxedo? Symbolism. Party? Symbolism. Billboard? Symbolism. etc. etc. ad infinum. I mean, come on people, sometimes a clock is just a fricken clock, y'know?

worst game? I'd have to go with just about any MMO. I don't mind dealing with people, but when you give them the anonymity of the internet and the ability to do mean angry things to you, I generally tend to avoid it. There are a few gems out there that are excluded from this for me, but not many.

And as for worst movies....  Twilight movies for the same reason as the books.

If it moves, it wants to kill you. It may not try to, but it wants to.

Sigged.

My second sigging! Awesome!  ;D

Edit: Just found this, figured it's kinda relevant.
