DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / And the earth was split

Hello fellow, more skilled, fortress makers! I pondered whether or not to make this, and I made the wrong choice to do so! Any hows, I found a sheer drop chasm which splits into several other directions. It touches the bottom of the world itself. I was wondering if this would interest anyone. Being the new player I am I don't know how to get world gen data, so telling we would be helpful.

And of course pictures(taken in adventurer mode, thanks visual fortress)

PS. It's right next to a dwarf fortress, but sharing is caring!

Ohhh its I not L,Thanks. PS. I got to my fortress to find that it had no monsters inside, but the five remaining citizens(use to be 40) are having some type of wrestling match. Urist Mcdyer(Am I doing it right?) slams into an Obstacle, Urist Mcdyer has gone unconscious, Urist Mcdyer has regained conscious(repeats for the entirety of my stay). They seemed to be picking on the poor fellow, I think he was insane(flashing !).

Recently started to play adventure mode to see my fallen fortress, but that's a different story. The title might be a little misleading, as I know how to consume items(thank you wiki) but how do I pick up more water and drink it? I lack a water skin.

DF Suggestions / Re: Immortal babies and superchildren
« on: March 06, 2010, 01:10:59 pm »
This all sounds great, but only if we add in their lack of a proper, fully grown, immune system. When the baby/child falls off the bed, that little cut will become infected(only if it's not properly treated) and thus, Dwarven surgery. Or that wound in the arm, from a bolt(touched by dirty goblin hands mind you) if not removed properly or cleanly, will result in,  Dwarven surgery.

i.e. Stumps the child

DF Gameplay Questions / Transfer water?
« on: March 01, 2010, 04:41:06 pm »
I read somewhere on the forums that I could tell my dwarfs to transfer water via a bucket, i.e make a pond. Is this true? If so how? Sorry if this question is noobish and short, but this would help me alot with mountainous fortresses where the water is at a lower Z level.

Luckly in a past well attempt, an area became muddy. Thus I now have farm land. It is keeping the fortress sane. I miss my bone crafting :'(

DF Gameplay Questions / Hunted to death?
« on: February 25, 2010, 06:11:43 pm »
So in my new fort, I lacked soil. So because I couldn't get food from farming, I made a hunter and gave him a cross bow.  He was a good resource of food so I made two more people hunters. A while later I noticed that their statuses changed from "Hunting" or "bringing back animal(or whatever) to sleep and such activities. I look at the bottom of the U menu to find all the wild creatures are deceased. ALL of them.  This is my main source of food, and I've begun to capture vermin and such, but will the larger prey ever return?

tl;dr  Will creatures come from off map?

I'm sure your hunter has a pretty decent marksdwarf skill by now, so nothing should really be able to withstand one or two bolts. Really, nothing looks too out of the ordinary here.

Okay thanks. Also, just wondering, isn't the Giant Eagle and the Sasquatch restricked to savage zones? I mean I'm in calm, this scares me a tad.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to DF, and this is my first "know what I am doing, oh wait I don't" Fortress. Any hows cutting to the point, I have a hunter for my main source of food. Well many hunters but that's not the point. I live in calm surroundings and such and when I looked at the kills of one of my hunters out of interest, I noticed it had two odd kills, or at least one odd kill.

I remember seeing on the wiki that it's powerful, or is that only in adventure mode?
I'm also in a mountain biome.
