Its probably better to know we are friends with these people before we start taking to them, give it another week.

In the meantime, purchase a warmer blanket or something to make us more comfortable at home.

Also take care not to work too hard or the other workers will most likely dislike you because you make them look bad.

What do the most basic things cost? (food other than gruel, clothes, hygiene, maybe tools, etc)

Try to get a job at the secret police and use it to build up a resistance network hidden in plain sight.
Don't try to do all that in one week, of course. Start with getting the job.
Tell them that your mother being taken has opened your eyes to how important the work of the secret police is.
You are disgusted by the fact that you didn't see what a person she really was.
You don't want to be just a passive bystander anymore, watching helplessly how the General is being undermined by people like your mother.
You want to step up and help making the Union a better place! (that wouldn't even be a lie, ha!)

I had a different impression, sorry if I was wrong.
Unfortunately, I don't think it is worth continuing this with only one participant.
I was just messing about with the whole wall thing.
I'm not sure whats happening usually games like this have a bunch of people playing, but they don't for some reason, like how I'm in several games that I'm the only person playing most of the time and every now and then someone else will post.

Yeah you never know how popular a game will be. It's a good thing that you are so dedicated :) Maybe we'll see each other in my next game, whatever that will be.

There are more factions than just the empire as well, and I'm sure not all of them treat their citizens like garbage.
Maybe you should dive more deeply into the lore.

Nah, there are enough other things to dive into that interest me more.

Even Warhammer isn't purely dystopian, but is probably closer to it than any other universe.

Well, yeah, but not on every planet at any given time ;) There are civilized planets where people live normal lives.

If 40k isn't dystopian by definition, then nothing is. The fact that some people enjoy relatively normal lives doesn't change the setting in which they live those lives. If 5% of humanity lives a good life on the backs of the other 95% living miserable lives and getting chewed up by the Imperium, that's a dystopia. Just not from the perspective of the 5%.

Well, as I said, none of the big sci-fi franchises are purely distopian or utopian. How should that be possible in a whole galaxy or even several galaxies? I never dived that deep into WH40k lore, but I've read that for example planets controlled by the space marines are quite save from the inquisitors and stuff and thus their inhabitants live comparatively good lives. There are more factions than just the empire as well, and I'm sure not all of them treat their citizens like garbage. Sure, the battles are brutal and billions of lives are wasted, but behind that it's not all bad.

In the grim darkness of the 41st millenium, there is only war.

I'm still interested in this.

I had a different impression, sorry if I was wrong.
Unfortunately, I don't think it is worth continuing this with only one participant.
I might start something else and see if there are more people interested, but I will definitely not continue this. Sorry.

The thing about Star Wars is that the universe is NOT dystopic, because it's not a soundly horrible place, etc. etc.

The Empire isn't even necessarily dystopic either, given that the movies never clarify the lives of people under the Empire. Yes, books do, but even the books fall FAR short of making them into some sort of horrible murderous dystopia---generally lives continue as they have been, with only the occasional spot of genocide to darken your day.

Yes, there may be dystopia-like elements here and there, but nothing is really a true dystopia because one of the themes of Star Wars is that there is always hope.

Some might say that there is always a new hope in Star Wars.

Yup, basically what I'm trying to say. The galaxie the stories in the big sci-fi universes play in are far too huge and filled with too many different species and civilizations to be purely utopian or dystopian. Even Warhammer isn't purely dystopian, but is probably closer to it than any other universe.

I wouldn't just differentiate between Star Trek and Star Wars..

Star Wars is not a traditional Dystopia, but it definitely goes in the same direction, and in a pretty large scale.
I'd say Warhammer is much darker and more dystopian.

I also don't think Star Trek is really utopian... it just puts today's conflicts and places them in a larger scale.
Instead of racism and other conflicts between humans there are racism and other conflicts between different species/factions.
So, the human society itself might be utopian for the most parts, but the whole universe is far from utopian.

And there are other scifi settings that are quite different from those three.
Andromeda, Stargate, Halo, Battlestar Galactica, and probably some I forgot.

I wouldn't count shows like The Expanse or Killjoys yet since are too young and their lores aren't as deep and complex yet, but they have potential.

Star Trek is absolutely an utopia—not the whole galaxy but the society central to the plot has free energy, no money, limitless support for creative and intellectual endeavors, assumes racial, gender and interspecies equality as default values etc. Not only are all or almost all human problems resolved, but humanity works to improve other species lives.

Conversely, in Star Wars, the whole galaxy is a shitshow with criminal-run planets, where technology is literally regressing and becoming more junky by the century, evil wizards run a terrifying empire and the good guys are just the same sort of wizards but with more repression, who repeatedly go bad and make the galaxy even worse.

You are comparing a single species of one franchise with a whole galaxy of another...

I said the human society in Star Trek is utopian for the most part (not completely because of things like sector 31 and Khan) but the whole universe (galaxy isn't enough since there are several species/members of species from other galaxies) is far from being utopian (Orion Syndicate, Ferengi, wars between whole empires, sects, and so on).

In that regard, the Star Wars universe is pretty similar. You have large factions fighting each other but also utopian-like species (for example one that was advancing before most other species and stopped exploring the galaxy because they didn't find anybody else, isolated themselves and created a high tech civilization living in peace and luxury), they just don't play as much as a role as humanity in Star Trek.

Before I keep spending time on drawing stuff for this: Is there any serious interest for this?

There's no rules saying you can't be an attack helicopter.

Name: Apache
Species: Attack Helicopter
Sex: Attack Helicopter
Home planet: Earth
Looks: Your typical attack helicopter. Has 30mm cannons and AMG-114 Hellfire missiles mounted onto its frame. General appearance wise, it looks like this:

It's a bit too late for that :)

High Stone Academy
  Of Extraordinary Arts

             Intro: Part 6

After a moment of consideration, you answer:
"Quite honestly, I am uncertain. I mean, I was going to kill myself and walked through a magical brick wall instead.
I have a feeling this place has a lot to teach me, so I guess I'm a student?
I tend to quickly take control of situations and try to direct others to the best outcome, so that would make me a leader type.
Honestly? I don't know what to expect. You mentioned magic, so who knows, anything could happen...
You said you don't just get here on accident, right? Maybe all this has a meaning... maybe someone wanted to stop me from killing myself. Or maybe it was pure coincidence and you just want my money..."

Ladeera responds with a surprised look:
"Well of course the Academy does not require you to pay money! This institution is being supported by many very influential entities all around the multiverse."

After a few more moments, in which she lightly touches the big gem in front of her, she continues:
"Well, Mister Vale. I think we have all we need to let you progress to the test.
If you would like to step through the door to my right, please?"

With that, the door opens for you to step through.

Before you can go, she quickly adds:
"Oh! If you have any questions, feel free to ask, of course!"

Are you planning to build a wall around Mars, too?

High Stone Academy
  Of Extraordinary Arts

             Intro: Part 5

You are Jimmy Vale, a mostly human, slightly Zebran, Martian.

Your early life was weird, to put it lightly.
You grew up on Mars as part of a community of Human Zebras.

>>>When Mars was terraformed enough for humans to survive in the open, it was declared free for anyone to settle.
Many decided to make it their home, free from the restrictions and prejudice they experienced on Earth.
Among them were an insanely large amount of different furry fandoms, which would, over time, use the advancing gene modification technologies to alter their biology.
And now we have Martian furry communities. Well done, crazyabe and Zultan, really, well done...)
<<<

After a few years, it was clear that something was wrong with you. While the other members of your group had proud snouts and bushy tails, you wouldn't develop any of those.
You had a nice, gray, fur, hooves and the typical stripes on your arms, but aside from that, you looked, almost disgustingly, human!

Once you were old enough to make your own decisions, both you and them were relieved when you decided to leave the community and, since Mars still was an empty, barren planet, migrate to Earth.

>>>While so many left Earth for all the prejudice, the citizens of Earth itself developed a surprisingly high tolerance towards most life forms since then.<<<

Your flight to Moon was unspectacular.
Space flight used to be dangerous and exhausting, but modern ships were pretty comfortable and secure.

The home planet of the human race was so different from your old home!
Gigantic cities, dotted with large forests and fields, covered the landscape as far as your eyes could see from the slowly descending space elevator.
Once it arrived on the ground, you got an electronic identification tattoo and were free to go and explore this new world.

You needed to find a job, and since you always were kinda creative, you decided to become a trainee for a stone mason whose beautiful pieces were traded on the whole planet.

At some point you read something about Clowns from Mars and their gray skin, which you found hilarious, since you, too, had gray skin.
You decided to color your hair green as theirs, as a sign of solidarity.

A few years later, and you were a professional stone mason yourself, creating high quality toys, mugs and instruments and selling them for high prices.
You found a wife and had 3 kids with her.
One of them had a phase where he wanted to turn himself into an Apache Attack Helicopter.
After a long talk that ended with the words "Aldric Chuckles Jimmy Vale! As long as you live in my house, you are not going to grow rotor blades!", he decided against it.

All in all, life wasn't bad.

But then came the day you lost those most precious to you...

...and now you are here.

"My, my... that is quite the story, Mister Vale! I am Ladeera, the secretary of this Academy." Ladeera said.
"Now that we made clear who you are, the question is, why are you here? Are you a student, or a teacher? Leader or follower? What do you think this place will give you, and what do you think this place will get from you, Mister Vale?" she asked in a mysterious tone.
