Yaaay. Now your next task should be to do it all over again with the most incompatible starting stat set you can devise!

Well, there's always Star Control... :)

http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

Undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable games I've played, and I'm very grateful towards the folks who developed The Ur-Quan Masters project. I concur with this recommendation.

I'm aware of the rules involving animals, but my founder isn't. As it turns out, he doesn't actually know he's in a game. That would be breaking the Fourth Wall, and that's too silly.

Curses / Re: Have you ever *changed* laws in LCS individually?
« on: March 17, 2010, 11:30:06 am »
Incorrect. In nightmare mode I had the Supreme Court send about 5 issues from C+ to C in various areas.

See, I presumed that happened not because of societal pressure (that's just bringing forth the issues... and, well, in an C+ Nightmare, the individual laws can't get any redder) but because of the Supreme Justice make-up. Although Conservatives are Conservatives (duh, right?), there's a difference between C and C+ in the game; so, when the opportunity to change an issue from C+ to C is brought to Court, the C Justices could very well side for change. Since the C+ Justices don't begin with a majority of their own at the start of the game (and likely won't get one since the Senate is C at the start and is most apt to only approve C Justices), they have to rely on the C Justices for support... which doesn't quite fall in line the way the C+ Justices would like.

If that makes any sense.

Update

The videos for update 15 and 16 have been recorded, but I won't upload them onto Dailymotion until I compile the narrative to go along with them (as well as the narrative for update 14). Fifteen and sixteen's videos are both huge and completely unboring, so I'm planning on a mega-narrative (with a bundle of screenshots) to match. How long will that take? A couple of days at least. I'm not feeling very much pressure to update more rapidly, since I - it seems - already do it so often. You'll likely see the screenshot story for Update 14 posted in this thread before the end of today, but, for those of you who don't much care for reading stories and just watch the videos, you're going to have to hunker down and wait.

Not that I think it really matters. With very little feedback for the last video, I'm going to assume that I'm given free reign to do this however I please. That's cool. Watching (or commenting on) LPs is not for everyone, and I've had a quite robust schedule, so it's hard to get much word in about what I've been doing. That being said, I'm still going to finish this LP. It might end with the Arch-Conservatives retaining dominion over the nation, but this session will reach a firm conclusion one way or the other.

Thanks to those who've commented so far. Must be the nerd in me that makes me think this game is a pleasant topic of discussion, and it's a shame it's not more popular.

Remember: Narrative for Update 14 later today, Updates 15 and 16 before the end of the week.

Stay Liberal!

Juice bar & co-op: useless hippies, which are found all over the place anyway

I admire your strength in voicing your attitude!

But Liberals surely provided the spark!

Now to see if we can convince Fox to put this in the next version...

Liberal protests with picket signs are in order. We shall petition him through non-violent means to get him to redress the matter!

...then suddenly their favorite recruitment site is taken over by the Conservative Machine!  Awesome!

Considering my attitude toward certain recruitable characters, I might be the only person who genuinely considers this awesome and has no qualms with the vanishment of this great locale for aforementioned certain recruitable characters. Consequently, I am fully in support of the co-op becoming a military base and the juice bar turned into a recruitment facility. Huzzah!

Beneath the Steel Sky and Bureaucracy both could run on a MS-DOS platform, so you can use DOSBox to emulate them. That's what I use when I want to revisit many of my old DOS-related games.

Also: Did you notice the free potions you get in Towerclimb? When the game spawned me in a situation from which I couldn't escape (ledges basically too high for me to jump and reach), I decided to start pressing keys. 1-3 activate the potions you have: 1 controls Jump Potions, 2 controls Corrode Potions, and 3 controls Teleportation Potions. You start with three #1 potions, three #2 potions, and one #3 potion. That should help you be able to climb farther than ever.

Haha. You got me with that one. I guess I'd just actually have to put the Mutant Liberation Squad to use...

-EDIT: Remodeled the introductory post of this thread to reflect some of the guidelines under which I am playing. Take a look.

I couldn't find any sleeper in my old game save who met the criteria to refute your statement. All of the sleepers who had stats above 10 with zero juice was either over 35 or had been victimized by guitars. And I can't think of any other character examples to suggest. Damn.

...Then again, since Wisdom is a stat, I could actually name many examples. Har-har!

But, heh, seriously, I thought I pulled a fast one on you there with those screenshots. Didn't think of age changes. Fie.

I think I can answer your questions:

1. I didn't want to lose the taxicab. My founder's driving skill is nonexistant, and there's no way I would have entertained the idea of trying to flee from Conservatives in a high speed chase unless he had been near death and one of his legs had been blown to smithereens. In part, I avoided causing too much ruckus at those sites because I wanted to keep driving the cab for as long as I could. Clearly, I failtrained when I drove it to the Halls of Ultimate Judgment by mistake and lost the damn thing, but mistakes happen.

2. I thought it would be cool to illustrate the fact that I am capable of playing stealthily, especially since it's a change from how I have been playing. Sneaking unnoticed through the Police Station while getting caught each time I went into the CEO Residence also illustrates the inherent humor in the RNG. Guard dogs or not, I thought the Death Squads would notice me and bring the pain.

3. I keep laughing every time I unequip the AK-47 and the Conservatives fail to notice it in Grimith's pants.

4. I tempt the RNG regularly, but I'm not suicidal. DS Officers carry M16s, and Mercenaries carry AR-15s. While I have no qualms with tempting my luck against individuals or small groups, I shy away from engaging full complements of either of those NPCs with one man. I have replacement members who could take the mantle should my founder fall, but I would definitely have to come up with a different perspective for the narrative. Unless I decide to let him write a ghost journal.

5. I wanted a break from violence. Don't worry: I'm not going to go out and recruit hippies, give them guitars, and have them sing us some songs. That'd be absurd. I'll get back to gratuitous killing soon enough. In fact, if anything, I thought the viewers would enjoy the breath of fresh air. I've looked at the issues several times and applied myself at working towards Liberalizing them through non-excessively violent means!

6. My "F" key got tired of the abuse and wanted a break.

7. Buildings are easy to close down via murder sprees - in one instance, I had shut down both the Police Station and Court House with some serious Liberal Justice, and a few of my weaker, less-skilled Liberals managed to get arrested. Didn't have an easy time freeing them, I assure you. I wanted to keep my options on where I could visit in the next video or two; don't know what I'll do for those yet, so I figured I'd wait and see.

8. Gotta give Zsword a reason to guest star on another of my videos: He didn't get to witness Terminator Founder.

9. Gotta give folks who get their jollies from Terminator Founder another reason to keep watching.

10. Because I want to have my founder learn a well-rounded curriculum. He will be the Shepherd of Liberals Yet To Come. They will require learning at his knee.

You mean you had 309 recruits. EEK. I've never gone that high before.

99 Active Liberals (counting the Founder), 17 of whom were former Conservatives who hadn't been Enlightened in time (and an eighteenth guy who took care of them all in a separate safe house). That left me with 210 Sleepers from all walks of life, 32 of whom had 100% Effectiveness. Embezzling made me money hand-over-fist. I had so much money that I spent it on teaching; only the Enlightened and the guy watching over them had fewer than 129 skill points - my founder had the most at 259. I know these numbers and stats because I made a copy of the final save the month before I liberalized the country, so I could reflect on what I had done.

Like I said: The game's easy.
