Video 14 - Dailymotion Slightly edited because of Dailymotion length restriction.
Video 14 - Veoh Uncut.
Video 14A \ 14B - YouTube Added after the fact through Edit.

Here's the story:

Zsword offered to do guest commentary for one of my videos, and I, being inexperienced in the ways of creating video game logs for the internet, decided that, well, since I never had a guest commentator before, why not take him up on his offer? After I recorded Video 14 sans audio, I sent it to him and called him over Skype so we could record the audio for the video together.

That's why my voice is very noticeably louder than his; besides the fact that I'm a boisterous guy, his voice has to carry from my speakers to my internal laptop microphone.

Anyway, we had to do two takes of the recording session (many jokes and much awkwardness were left behind in the first version) because I, in my idiocy, decided to full-screen WMP and then tell Camstudio to record full screen. Twenty minutes and 609 MB later, I realized I needed to L2Think and asked Zsword if he'd be kind enough to do another take with me. He was, and here are the fruits of our labor.

I enjoyed recording a video with him (as well as talking to him); while I thoroughly enjoy LCS, and I would have said something remotely humorous over the course of the video - like in regards to the Pet Warped Bear and losing my taxicab - having his presence injected a new line of thought which, I believe, makes the video more enjoyable than the others... even though we don't talk too much about what's happening on-screen. If you (seven) folks who keep track of this LGWI/LP enjoyed this style of commentary as well, then I'll keep it in mind for future videos if anyone else wants to join me on a trek through Grimith Slaughters All. If, on the other hand, you folks would rather hear me plod along with my booming voice in the videos, then that's cool too; just tell me so.

For that matter, I ask those of you who read and enjoy this thread to advertise it to folks who enjoy LP-style readings/watchings, enjoy Liberal Crime Squad, and/or you think could enjoy something like this. Despite how much I hate on the peaceful style of play, the game's open-ended and fun, and I hope that I can encourage folks who've never heard about the game or given it much thought to play it more and share their stories in the Curses subforum.

...Also, if there are any lurkers out there, stop lurking and post. Seriously. Share. Even if you think I suck. Especially if hippies are your favorite recruits. Go ahead and share.

OK, that's enough spewing of Liberal tolerance for me. Read you folks later.

...

One more thing:

Thanks, Zsword!

I have seen them make successful attacks from time to time... but, I don't know. Perhaps my memory's a bit rusty on the affair, and I'm over-exaggerating. Regardless, like I mentioned earlier: I'm strongly considering doing another LP after I finish this one which contains an active and "powerful" CCS. It'll also be video-only unless there's a strong outcry.

-EDIT: Video 14 has been finished for a while, but it's not finished uploading yet. I was able to get started on it sooner than I thought. The upload will be finished in another forty-five minutes, so, if you're interested, check back then. I doubt there'll be a narrative update to go along with it... but I do believe I've done quite enough so far in this thread. So there. =P

Whenever I allow the CCS in one of my games, I get angry because they keep going on rampages and make themselves look like incompetent morons - which they are, but that's irrelevant to my point. If I wait until they appear normally, then it's too late for them to affect the issues. If I let them start right from the beginning, then I get stacks of newspaper rampage spam. It's quite depressing.

But, just so you know, I figure I'm going to be doing another LCS LP after this one, equipped with both Nightmare Mode and We Didn't Start The Fire action. Just to illustrate how failtrain the CCS is.

Only hippies, mutants, and the founder can start with stats over 10 at no Juice, and any others who appear to have better base stats have more than no Juice?

What about Liberal Judges and Lawyers?

Update 013: Video 13A \ 13B

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

(Updates are on hold for now while I do some other stuff, like try to contact Zsword. I left him a PM; maybe he'll respond to it, providing he got it! Who knows? It is a mystery...

But, no, seriously, there's plenty of update material available for you folks to cope. This is a big forum, too. I'm sure you all will manage.)

Grimith, why do you hate us mutants so much?  Give mutants a chance!

Mutants are awesome. They're my friends. Unless you're trying to help me appreciate hippies better by equating them to mutants. That's a very skillful strategy, my Liberal Comrade. I don't know how to refute that!

8-12 agility at 1000 Juice is good considering the difficulty of the game; a rifle skill of eight combined with a M4 regularly produces worthy results. Add a dodge skill of eight with some Army BodyArmor on the side, and your only concern should be lucky shots. Now, if you want to go toe-to-toe with multiple squads of Agents when they rush to protect the Intelligence HQ, that's another story. In that case, I fully understand recruiting folks with only 8+ agility, and I'm glad you're finding some worthy recruits in dancers, athletes, and whatnot.

Digression: Hippies can have redeemable stats and skills, but I think I'm just too biased against them because I associate them so much with the guitar-wielding, newspaper-writing, peace-loving way of playing and winning the game. =P

Considering how interested I am in the violent side of the game, I might be of assistance here.

The last time I beat LCS, by the end game, these were the stats of my main (and violent) squad:

Political Activist (Founder): 13 Agility, 12 Strength
Political Activist (formerly Teenager): 12 Agility, 13 Strength
Nurse (had 20 First Aid): 8 Agility, 14 Strength
Veteran: 17 Agility, 17 Strength
Transient (amazing Transient): 17 Agility, 19 Strength
Author: 12 Agility, 18 Strength

I had several dozen other recruits, but these folks were basically the first people I recruited who were worthwhile, and they were effective enough, so I kept them together. They all had 1000 Juice, which is obviously the key because, otherwise, three members of that squad would have been horribly incompetent at rifle-based combat.

High stats will be the luck of the draw, but you should be fine recruiting someone to the cause even if they have pretty mediocre starting agility. If you really want the opportunity for your recruits to be loaded with physical stats, however, do what I've done in my LGWI thread (and something an earlier poster suggested): Recruit mutants. They can also fall victim to the RNG... but, well, their chances of giving you what you want are certainly better than hippies. I refuse to recruit them. Ever.

I'm glad you're enjoying the LGWI thread, jarathor, and I am, in fact, playing on Nightmare mode. While the game is technically more challenging when you're playing Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter, it would be more difficult - and much more boring - to sustain my violent style of play in non-Nightmare because I would end up influencing the issues too far to the left and find very few Conservatives save in select zones/circumstances (I'd have to incite the mob to rush me at the Cable/AM Stations, for example, in order to have an orgyporgy bloodbath). Police Negotiators also make me angry, since they're moderate, and I like to avoid them for as long as I can.

Beneath the Steel Sky is a great choice for a LP. However, in the spirit of seeing you play another text-based, screw-you-over-like-Bay12-Curses game, I heartily recommend Bureaucracy.

-EDIT: Logic error needed fixin'.

(relating to Kosovo Karnage) ...and do horrible screams in the background whenever the AI blows itself up :D

No way, dude. Not only do they do that too much, but they have a very aggravating habit of stepping on a mine right near you, when you're just starting a level, so they take you both out in one rather gruesome, yet not earth-shattering kaboom.

I played it for the first time this morning and recorded my antics; this is jarathor's thread, so no link-dropping about that here. But my brief experience once again confirmed that Bay12 Curses were designed to consume your soul.

Curses / Re: Conservative Radar
« on: March 13, 2010, 11:37:02 am »
That's how I thought of the matter as well: only the folks at the far end of the spectrums got lit up like a Christmas tree. After all, if you look at "The Status of the Liberal Agenda" screen, Conservatives and Liberals have their own (slightly) different color code. And those shown as Elite Liberals can still very much reject to join you, as those lit up as Arch-Conservatives... well, they might not join you, but a few of them will at least humor you. Consequently, the aura of such would be apparent even to a member of Society's Dregs because these people would WANT their views to be known.

Your idea would inject a bit more realism to the game and let the RNG have more fun in your life - which I, myself, would like since I like rolling the dice against the RNG in this game. But, as you admittedly, the idea doesn't do much to change gameplay, and I also have no idea how easy it would be to work into the game. Need the Fox Avatar here for that one.

  • Liberal guardian can't be effectively used

That does make sense the more I think about it.

(deathsquads run and drive fast)

Yet another reason why I huggle agility time and time again in this game. But I very much understand the "one mistake and gg all" clause, so you wouldn't want to tempt the RNG too much.

Following these steps I'm seeking nightmare sneaky solo victory. Not too ambitious?

I don't think so; you've got enough experience with the game to need a challenge of your own, and, as you've already taken care of this on non-nightmare, why not go for the gold? As violent and reckless as I play with Terminator Founder, however, I think I wouldn't try your nightmare dash without a backup, someone with just enough juice to slide into the seat and act as a Plan B card in the event the DS or prison system gets a hold of your founder. I wouldn't even use the backup to try and alter the issuse or raise money or anything once he got enough juice; he'd be ordered to keep low in a different location and watch from afar as I attempt to succeed.

But, nah. Too ambitious? No way!

Skill points facts

Definitely can't argue with that. If you're determined enough, you can bulk up your skills relatively quickly. The charm in selecting such a career, then, only shines more if you're a newbie or you abhor "grinding" skill points.

Apartment facts
It's true you can get apartments after start, but the initial apartment gives you a free month and charges significantly lower rent each month.

The downtown apartments charge the Professional Thief $1200/month, which is $300 cheaper than everyone else has to pay, and you don't have to make your first payment until February 3, which doesn't give credence to this safehouse being a huge drain on financial resources unless you're playing Conservatively. Furthermore, as your safehouse is in the apartment complex, you receive a map of the place every time you Go Forth to Stop Evil there. When I loot apartments in the early game, my objective is to get the most loot possible without setting off a Conservative Alarm. Knowing where to go is a huge time-saver... and money-earner.

But, as I already noted - and you pointed out - it's not very difficult to earn money in this game. The loot I've gained from just a handful of thievery rounds, as you've seen in my LGWI thread, is more than enough to keep me afloat. Consequently, like the starting skills the Professional Thief and Highschool Dropout receive, the differences will make a big impact on folks who are new; veterans can get around those differences handily. I could see the Professional Thief start being even more advantageous, however, if you were setting conditional challenges upon yourself.

I must admit though, the job title of Profesional Thief does beat the pants off Highschool Dropout.

I just can't help but imagine that the Highschool Dropout is pursuing a life of Liberalism because she's failed so much at life and she's just trying to find an excuse to gloss over it all (that's a more humorous idea than "leaving school because it's run by The Man"). I suppose, since your character will hopefully end up a legend in her own way, the one who sparked the Elite Liberal movement in the nation, where you came from won't be that big of a deal. It's just too hard for me to let go, even in the name of stats.

Curses / Re: Fire station
« on: March 13, 2010, 04:06:01 am »
Perhaps the Fire Station held merit in some previous version; regardless, as you said, the buildng doesn't have much to offer players. I can't see any of the current issues (other than Free Speech in Arch-Conservative alignment) fitting well with the Fire Station... unless you try to stretch the Animal Rights issue there too with the loyal dalmatians that firefighters are stereotyped to have, know, and love. Perhaps a "Public Safety" issue could be created for them and allow the Firemen another chance to appear if that issue's Arch-Conservative, even if Free Speech isn't? I'm not sure of the best way to make the building useful, but I don't think it's entire theme should be changed and allow the joke to go up in smoke... although I could see it being replaced with a major media outlet. Perhaps The Times could have a branch office or corporate HQ in the city, and the Free Speech issue revolves around it.

But, yeah. I totally agree: Unless you're hankering for axe combat or really want some Bunker Gear, there's little purpose in visitng the Fire Station.
