My favorite little thing is how a cat or kitten brings the remains of vermin to their owner and leave it for them (partially because I'm a cat owner in real life).  I remember I once had a sick dwarf (well, he had lost his leg, really) and I was checking up on him, to see if he was going to get a crutch or something, and I noticed the little 2s all around his bed, where the little cat that had adopted him was bringing him vermin remains that the dwarves would just pick up and bring to the stockpile.  I thought it was absolutely adorable.

I apologize for my absence from the adventures of the cheese themed glass maker.  Real life unfortunately got in the way and i've just started back into the thread.  anyone willing and able to give a quick summary of what's happened?  Muenster hasn't died yet has he?
So far we've begun a more culturally diverse fort, including more elves, a goblin, some humans and a kobold.  I believe you were here for the only death this fortress has seen (to my knowledge).  Basically, the usual stuff a fort goes through: titans, forgotten beasts, useless migrants ect. ect.
though you should read all the posts, they truly glorify the mundane times of DF.

I think the only time I gave a dwarf something that wasn't necessary was when I had a baby whose mother was killed in a goblin raid and father died in a mining accident.  I went down to the caverns and smoothed and engraved a large area and put some levers around, as well as a bridge spanning over a 3 z level drop to a pool of magma.  He spent most of his days slaughtering cavern creatures by himself; he even took down a FB (though the second one he fought led to his downfall by FB dust).  His name was Bruce Wayne, Batman.
other than that, it's communal beds for everyone but my nobles

I would also have to add that completely demoralized enemies should be considered non-combatants
so, if you capture one, your dwarves wouldn't run right when they open the bloody cage.

I have a combination of this underneath a wall which creates a large box around my moat leading to a horizontal entrance
it's essentially an airlock or a preliminary defense, however, and my real entrance is horizontal
now that I think about it, every fort I've made has had a double defense.

snip!
I think this would be a great addition to battle reports as well, with things like "took joy in slaughter" for dwarves
"Hammergobbo rallied with his allies!"
"marksdwarf was horrified by the death of battle!"
"militia commander has become used to dealing with death."
"axe goblin is invigorated by his performance in the fight!"
"SQUAD BROKEN"

here's a good one
"Engraved on the floor is a superiorly designed image of Avuz Oilyfenced the dwarf and Abba Hollowmined the Clean Bust the human by Nomal Okmelbil.  Avuz Oilyfenced is cringing.  Abba Hollowmined the Clean Bust is striking a menacing pose.  The artwork relates to the smashing of the dwarf Avuz Oilyfenced's second finger, right hand by the human Abba Hollowmined the Clean Bust in the early spring of 120 during Spusustrok, "The Disemboweled Battles".

Breakfast was over and most dwarves had begun their daily business, but some had made the mistake of lingering.
"BAH!  Just because an elf or a goblin could do somethin' doesn't mean a dwarf couldn't 'ave done it better!  Aye, I've seen brave goblins rush into battle without a wiff o' fear (though dwarves always come out on top!) 'nd I've seen elven crafts that rival those of the greatest craftsdwarfs (but dwarven work will stand the test of time), but that's just it, yea.  A victory for a goblin is a victory for GOBLINS!  A master craft made by an elf is an ELVEN craft.  This isn't the dwarven way, it's the elven way, goblin, human... KOBOLD way!  I'll be a dwarf for as long as I live, 'cause I'll never need the help of greenskins and sun dwellers.  And I'll die before I see this fort I helped raise from the ground degrade into a generation of half-breeds and mutts.  Listen to me, brothers and sisters, we're the dwarves of Nomekast, a strong and proud generation!  If these creatures must seek refuge in our halls, so be it, but don't let their outlandish ways TAINT the dwarven code." Reg scanned the dining hall for any of his companions who would stand by him, but he could tell they thought him a fool.
"'tis a sad day for our kind when a dwarven fort falls without a fight..." he whispered, staring into the bottom of his empty mug,"a sad day indeed.

I just had a dog who distracted an ogre loose in my fort long enough for my dwarves to kill it die of an infection after a month of dragging his bloody carcass around my legendary dining room.
it would have been nice if I could have patched him up and put him back in service.

I want to see something to do with caged prisoners
like putting their heads on pikes or at least execution
or interrogation, once we're able to do actual raids
another use for persuasion, I guess.

perhaps an Office could be made into a single room with chairs and tables and such, instead of making on for each individual noble.
